21st Century Catches Up with a Story
There's been a story going around since yesterday about a corporation that will have computer chips implanted in them for "convenience". How long before it becomes mandatory? Here's a story I wrote a while back on what happens if society lets the corporations take over, "Are You Safe?" https://jymwrites.wordpress.com/2014/...

Strictly From Hunger! Update
Sorry, that it's been a long time since I've sent out any news or an update, but that's because I've been working hard on the manuscript of "Strictly From Hunger!: A Rock and Roll Memoir."
We've just passed the half way mark on the book with about 56,000 words of a book that seems like it's going to run about 93,000 words (averaging the number of words from the chapters already completed).
If it seems like the book is taking a like the book is taking a little longer than expected, it is. There were some extenuating circumstances and we had to ask for an extension of the deadline from the publisher, it is now October 1, 2017 (with a new release date of probably Jan 2018). But I'm hoping to have the book finished by August.
There are a couple new things to mention associated with the project. I've updated and expanded the Wikipedia entry for Hunger! (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunger_...) It may help in explaining what drew me to the project, as well as Hungers place in the history of the Sunset Strip, if not Rock and Roll. I've also created a Twitter account for the book and it has the Twitter handle of @strictlyhunger Please follow and get the latest news on the progress of the book as it happens.
Doors News: The Doors Examiner archive continues to grow, there are now over 180 articles now on the site and growing almost every day. This past weekend marked the fourth anniversary of the death of Ray Manzarek and you can read the tribute articles I wrote as The Doors Examiner (http://doorsexaminer.com).
Book Recommendation: Noted rock writer Rich Weidman has published another book in the FAQ series, This one is "Guns n' Roses FAQ". I just finished it and found it very interesting, and is stuffed with facts about Guns n' Roses. You can find it at Amazon.
Thank you all for your interest and support!

Dreaming in Stories: Fragments
      Dreaming in Stories
The first two stories were started with vivid dreams I had on two consecutive nights while I was sick, I thought to myself “I’m dreaming in stories”. A couple weeks later I had the “Dark Pope” dream and it again was vivid and seemed to be a part of a series. These are the very roughest of fragments starting stories. I hope you find them interesting.
Life On Mars
Mike looked out the window of a car, “the sky is blue,” he said, in wonder, he was dressed in a heavy flannel shirt and jeans, he found he could move easily he wasn’t encumbered, he couldn’t remember the last time he had such ease of movement. “There’s a truck,” he said to the driver of the car, who he couldn’t make out, “all these cars on the road,” he placed his hand on his chest to check the feeling, “I’m supposed to be on Mars,” he said, then he shifted back, he found himself being grabbed by a fellow astronaut just as he was about to fall into a chasm.
Some Kind of Vampire
She opened her mouth, it couldn’t be called a smile, her gums had emulsified and were black, like dripping licorice. She was every shade and tone from black to gray from the clothes she wore to her skin color. I held out a gun at her.
“I’m not dead,” she said to me as she crossed the room, and opened a door and slipped inside. I opened the door, she was sitting on the toilet and I fired the gun twice into her before taking a last look at all the varying shades of gray.
I buried the vampire with the two women who had been his _______ I etched across his chest ‘ladies man’ before covering them with dirt and making sure the grass covered them seamlessly, before I left.
The Dark Pope
Pope Sestus was a good man, one day Satan approached him.
“You will be my servant, but first you must be consumed.” Sestus burst into flame until all that was left was a charred skeleton that looked like a burnt Samurai, the raiments of his office melted over him like a black wax.
A hero walked on the edge of a throng, he carried the charred skull of Sestus, he knew if he returned the skull to the man who had become enthralled to Satan he would return the good to the man who had been Sestus. As he came to the front of the throng he could see on a stage Satan and the man who had been Sestus, they were both dressed in dark suits and the man who had been Sestus, his features were still recognizable but they were darkened. The crowd still recognized him as the Pope, but they didn’t know he had become the dark Pope.

Interview with Jim Cherry and John Morton on Forthcoming Book
Here's an interview John Morton, one of the founding members of Hunger, and I did on Jan 8, 2017. We discuss John's adventures in Hollywood as he and Hunger struggle to become rock and roll's next best thing, and their 15 minutes of fame that lasted a year.

It's Official! Book Deal Signed!
It’s official! John Morton and Jim Cherry have signed a contract for “Strictly From Hunger!: A Rock and Roll Memoir” with Jorvik Press.
“Strictly From Hunger!: A Rock and Roll Memoir” is a trip down the Sunset Strip circa 1968 through the experiences of John Morton and his band Hunger! from their inception to their premature demise just as they were about to go national with their album, “Strictly From Hunger”. Hunger was arguably the biggest band on the Sunset Strip in 1968, they were the house band at the Whisky a go-go, they were favorably compared to The Doors in the Los Angeles rock press, and were going to have one of their songs in a major motion picture. Hunger played with Cream, The Who, Sparrow (to become Steppenwolf), Jose Feliciano, and many other groups that played on the Sunset Strip in ’68. John Morton was friends with Jim Morrison, and Duane Allman, witnessed Jimi Hendrix recording. Their album “Strictly From Hunger!” was well received in a European release, and caught the attention of Ahmet Ertegun and Robert Stigwood.
“Strictly From Hunger!: A Rock and Roll Memoir” is tentatively slated for an October 2017 release. You can read excerpts and keep abreast of “Strictly From Hunger!: A Rock and Roll Memoir” at the Strictly From Hunger Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/16345...). If you have a moment, thank Jorvik Press (https://www.facebook.com/jorvikpress/...) for supporting this project!
John Morton is a founding member of Hunger! Jim Cherry is the author of “The Doors Examined”, the novels “The Last Stage” and “Becoming Angel”. You can find more information about Jim and his books on his Amazon author‘s page.

The Doors Examiner Archive: Now Online!
I wrote The Doors Examiner for almost seven years, from August 29, 2009 until July 1, 2016 when The Examiner closed its virtual doors. Over the course of those years The Doors Examiner covered every aspect of The Doors, from their history, current projects, new releases, tours, reviews of book and CD releases, profiles of people in The Doors orbit, news stories that became available about the band in recent years, in short, anything fans would like to know about the band.
During the tenure of The Doors Examiner I wrote close to 1500 articles and a compilation book of the first three years titled “The Doors Examined. This archive can be considered an extension of that compilation, and when finished will accurately document The Doors Examiner. When the archive is finished we anticipate there will be approximately 1000-1200 articles published. As you can see the number of articles published is nowhere close to that number and we will be publishing and updating the archive at least weekly, so we hope you will check out the archive regularly. I’m hoping this will be a useful resource for Doors fans and rock and roll enthusiasts seeking information on The Doors.

Chapter 2 Strictly From Hunger!
Chapter 2 of Strictly From Hunger! "Looks Like Paradise to Me!" The band moves to L.A. and discover they live next to Jim Morrison
All I remember about the drive to California is that it was long, hot and cramped. Only two of us could ride in the cab of the truck at a time while the rest of us had to ride in the back. We slept on the amps to keep them from shifting and because there wasn‘t any other place to sleep. Driving through Bakersfield it was so hot we propped open the van’s sliding door side panel with a mike stand so we wouldn’t pass out from the heat. As we rounded the sharp curves, the equipment shifted and I thought we were going to be crushed or we’d lose the equipment out the open door.
We made it to L.A. in one piece, equipment included. It was so hot and smoggy, the air was so thick you could choke on it. I had a headache for two weeks. I smoked a lot of weed back then and it helped me forget about the headaches. The place the girls had rented was in the North Hollywood Hills. When we all piled out of the van we looked like bums off the street, we were hot, sweaty, dusty and tired, and still had to unload the truck. The house was like Shangri-La, it was a beautiful place sitting on a hilltop overlooking the city. It had a veranda on the top section, downstairs it opened up to a patio with goldfish and exotic flowers. It was a very inspiring scene and it’s where I would eventually come up with our new sound. The girls showed up later in their air conditioned blue Mustang with their dogs. They were all dolled up, make-up and hair all in place. While we unloaded the truck they sat on the porch watching us while they smoked cigarettes. When we finished they said, “it's about time!”
