Jennifer Reynolds is a native of North Alabama. She has a Master of Fine Arts degree from National University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Alabama.She is a multi-genre author who focuses mostly on post-apocalyptic novels and paranormal romances. #WIP IT UP WEDNESDAY Excerpt from Supernaturals Book 3 a Paranormal Romance Coming Soon
Welcome to my post on WIP IT UP WEDNESDAY blog hop. Don’t forget to hop over to our home page to find links for more WIP posts or for instructions on how to join the hop. http://wipitupwednesday.blogspot.co.uk/ This week I’m sharing from my current WIP, the third book in my Supernaturals series. As of right now, this novel doesn’t have a title, release date, or cover. The novel has finally gone to editing so hopefully my editor can come up with an amazing title and help turn this story from good to great. The following scene follows my post from a few weeks back. Talia and Dakota are discussing the email Talia just received. This scene ends chapter one.--- Elaine, my boss at the bookstore, was disappointed when I put in my request for time off the next morning, but she was willing to allow me a month’s leave on the condition that if I wasn’t back in a month she would replace me. Her granddaughter, who was sixteen and who was grounded for life after her mother caught her having sex, would fill in for me while I was gone. Elaine said working my shifts would be a perfect way for the girl’s family to keep an eye on the teenager.My boss at The Dollar Store, Roger, was not so pleasant. He behaved as if my two five-hour night shifts were the most important shifts the store ever had and that I was leaving him in the worst bind. Yeah, I worked Friday and Saturday nights, but the only thing important about those shifts was the fact that they were Friday and Saturday night and no one wanted those shifts, not that we were ever that busy or that there was anything else to do in our small town on those nights.Okay, I’m not being fare with that last bit. Just because I was thirty, divorced, a bit overweight, didn’t have anything else to do on those nights besides work didn’t mean everyone else was stuck at home as well, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t suck it up and rotate some of the other employees for a few weeks. A number of them had been begging for more hours for a long time. They just didn’t want those hours. Well, beggars couldn’t be choosers.After much discussion, where I basically told him if he didn’t give me the month off, I would quit that very day, forcing someone, most likely him, as he was the store manager, to work those hours until he could find someone else willing to work them, he agreed to give me the month.If I thought that my manager at The Dollar Store was hard to convince, my parents were harder. I’m not an only child, but I’m their only daughter. After seeing me go through what I had recently gone through with my job and ex-husband, they were reluctant to be all right with me leaving them for a month to spend time with werecoyotes.In the end, they had to concede that I was a grown woman, and I could come and go as I pleased.---That’s it for today. This scene ends chapter one. --- “Did you get all of that?” Dakota asked, breaking into my thoughts.I looked up from the computer I worked on while at her home and nodded. “I’ll have to take a leave of absence from my other jobs and pray I still have them when I return,” I said, letting that realization slam into me. I hoped I hadn’t gotten excited for nothing. “If they don’t let me off, I may not be able to go.”“You don’t work that many hours for either place. Surely, they can fill your spot for a month,” she said dismissively. “If they don’t, don’t worry. This trip will pay you more than either of them will in six months. That will give you plenty of time to find something else.”I gave her a questioning look, then looked back at the payment amount. I hadn’t thought it was that much until I read that the payment information again and realized that the money was for each couple I interviewed and not for the entire trip as a whole. The total I read wasn’t a fortune, but Dakota was right, it would keep me comfortable for more than a few months upon my return to allow me time to find another job.Couple their money with the fact that I would still have a job with her when I returned, and I was able to shove my financial worries aside for the time being. A hopeful part of my brain added, if you do this right, they might ask you to do more. There are hundreds of different types of supernatural beings, all with their own stories to tell, and I could be the one to gather these stories. That thought perked me right up.I could see myself loving a job like that. I could go from one group to another, gathering their stories, getting to know the people, experiencing lives that I would otherwise never get to experience. It would be like reading a new book every day, but better because I would be able to see the people first hand.Yeah, Dakota and others would add more drama and flare to the stories once they got a hold of them and possibly make them even better than the originals, but I would be able to see and experience some aspects of it all first hand, something few other people would get to do.--- That’s it for today.
