Excerpt

The next morning, Lauren awoke to the sound of the garage
door closing. It was only six fifteen but Paul had already left for work. He didn’t even say goodbye. Did he
really have to work so much? Was it her imagination or did he seem to be
working more lately?

She pulled the covers up to her chin while thoughts circled
her mind. Certainly, Paul wasn’t deliberately avoiding her, but if she had to
hang onto this secret much longer, she’d explode. This was way too exciting to
hold in. For a moment, she considered calling her mom and telling her, but
decided Paul deserved to know before anyone else. Even her mom.

Lauren rose from bed and gazed out the window. Morning was
just beginning to break, and the neighborhood was bathed in a serene, purple
haze. She loved the early morning when so many possibilities lay ahead. And
today those possibilities were almost intoxicating. Once Paul knew she was
pregnant, he’d be so ecstatic. They’d spend more time together, and Lauren
would finally have her perfect life—just as she had imagined it.

Pulling on her robe, Lauren headed toward the kitchen. After
school she’d drive over to Paul’s office and kidnap him. She’d take him to a
nearby park and after walking around, hand-in-hand, she’d present him with the
baby bottle. The vision of his excitement was so real it almost felt as if his
arms were already around her.

Today would be a good day.

A day that would change everything.

The Fortune Cafe Book Blast and Giveaway

Fortune Cafe

The Fortune Café

a novel in three parts
MIS-FORTUNE: Emma, a waitress at The Fortune Café will do anything to avoid opening a fortune cookie. Each fortune is rumored to somehow magically come true. Being a girl grounded in reality, she doesn’t have time for that kind of nonsense. But when trying to prevent a food fight at the café, Emma accidently cracks open a fortune cookie: “Look around, love is trying to catch you.” If there is one thing that Harrison, her former best friend in high school is good at, it’s catching her unaware.

LOVE, NOT LUCK: Lucy has always been lucky . . . until her parents meet her fiancé’s parents at a disastrous lunch at The Fortune Café, and she breaks her lucky jade necklace. Even worse, her fortune cookie reveals that “True love is for the brave, not the lucky.” How is she supposed to read that? She’s always considered it lucky how she met her fiancé. But after breaking her necklace, Lucy’s luck takes a dive. And when her fiancé dumps her, the only person she can turn to is Carter, the unluckiest guy she knows.

TAKEOUT: Stella is content in her new life of taking over her mom’s jewelry shop. No more boyfriend to worry about, and as long as she stays busy, she doesn’t have to dwell on her non-existent love life. When Evan comes into the shop with his young daughter, Stella is charmed. But she is reluctant to complicate her straightforward life, so when she reads her fortune after ordering takeout from The Fortune Café, she completely ignores it. After all, how can a fortune as vague as “Do the thing you fear and love is certain,” apply to her?

Spring break is coming

Things have been busy with all the work to release and promote the Breathtaking boxed set and the editing and cover production of The Fourth of July. We're also full-swing into lacrosse season for our three oldest. I absolutely love that but spend most of my afternoons and evenings driving to practices or cheering at games.

I shouldn't do this but I keep focusing on spring break and dreaming of no schedules or demands and nonstop time with my husband and children in the sun and the sand.

Do you ever find yourself wishing away your days? I know all the sayings about savoring the moment and finding joy in the here and now but it's like going a day without chocolate - easy to plan on, hard to execute.

How do you slow down and enjoy when life is crazy?

Do you have anything fun you're looking forward to?

Home Matters Updated Tour Schedule

Home Matters by Julie N. Ford

According to her mother, Olivia Pembroke was born to be a star. But how is she supposed to be famous when she can't even get a decent acting gig? Her lucky break comes when she lands an audition for a wildly popular home improvement show. Even though she has no design training and has never even held a power tool, she refuses to let that stop her. She's confident that her destiny is finally within reach.

When her affections are torn between her heartthrob co-host and the irritating, yet somehow endearing lead contractor, does she continue to reach for the stars? Or does she design a new happily ever after? One that leads not to the fading lights of fame and fortune, but to a love that will burn forever.

JulieAuthor Julie N. Ford

Julie is a forty-something, dangerously close to becoming a fifty-something, graduate from San Diego State University with a BA in Political Science. In addition, she has a Masters in Social Work from the University of Alabama, which has only made her better able to recognize the unhealthy, codependent relationship she has with writing. Professionally, she has worked in teaching and as a marriage and family counselor. She is the author of four women’s fiction novels, including Count Down to Love, a 2011 Whitney Award finalist. When she’s not writing, she entertains delusions of being a master gardener, that is, when she’s not killing the unsuspecting plants in her yard with her good intentions. She lives outside of Nashville, Tennessee, with her husband, two daughters, a Betta named Bob, and a Scottish fold kitten, Ardweal.

My Review

I really enjoyed this story. It was cute and clean romance. I loved the charity angle with the hero and that the heroine grew into herself and found the way she could make a difference and be happy instead of just being another pretty face. She was spunky and the book was really fun. I'd recommend it.

One Little Match by Thomas S. Monson

Thomas S. Monson loved spending summers at his family's cabin in Utah's Vivian Park. One summer day, he and his best friend, Danny, decided to clear a field so they could gather with their friends and have a campfire that night. The tall, stubborn weeds would not pull out easily. So Tommy had the idea to burn them up instead.

He knew he shouldn't use matches without permission from his parents. But he ignored the feeling that warned him of the danger and raided the matchbox in the cabin. Back in the field, he lit one little match and prepared to set the parched June grass abaze...

Readers of all ages will resonate with this wonderful true story that demonstrates the blessings of obedience and "the dangers that can come from something as small as one little match."

My Review

We adore this book! I read it to all four of my boys and they were engrossed. Now I catch my 7yo reading it to himself or his little brother almost daily. He thinks it's so cool that our prophet played with matches and almost burned a mountain down. My little pyromaniacs think President Monson is the greatest and this book made them think that even more.

About the Authors

PRESIDENT THOMAS S. MONSON has served as the sixteenth President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints since 2008. He was called as an Apostle in 1963 at the age of thirty-six. After serving as second counselor to President Ezra Taft Benson and then President Howard W. Hunter, he served as first counselor to President Gordon B. Hinckley from 1995 to 2008.

Thomas Spencer Monson was born to G. Spencer and Gladys Condie Monson on August 21, 1927, in Salt Lake City. Following his service in the U.S. Navy near the close of World War II, he graduated cum laude from the University of Utah and earned an MBA from Brigham Young University. He had a distinguished career in the publishing industry.

He served as president of the Canadian Mission from 1959 to 1962 and was a member of several general Church committees before becoming an Apostle.

He married Frances Beverly Johnson in the Salt Lake Temple in 1948. They are the parents of two sons and one daughter. They have eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

DAN BURR earned his bachelor of fine arts degree from Utah State University and a master’s degree in illustration from Syracuse University. He and his wife, Patti, are raising their two children and numerous farm animals on twelve acres of river-bottom land in Tetonia, Idaho. Dan is a well-known Christian illustrator who also specializes in wildlife renderings. A sequel to The Fourth of July

I was able to get a reversal of rights for The Fourth of July and have been working hard at editing the book and getting it back on the market. I can hardly wait for the new cover and release!

As I fell in love with the characters all over again I realized the book needs a sequel. I started plotting it out and haven't slept for a couple of nights. It will be the story of Alexis' (heroine of The Fourth of July) sister, Brittany and Detective Scott Bentley (from Blog This) will have a huge role in the book. I'm so excited to see their story unfold.

I'll keep you updated on The Fourth of July re-release.

Hugs,

Cami
