The Keeper's Defiance by Kelly Nelson

Welcome to the blog tour for Kelly Nelson's third book in The Keeper's Saga. Read more about The Keeper's Defiance  below and enter to win a signed copy!

The scream of a dragon woke me. Wide-eyed, I scrambled to my knees, searching for a place to hide. Then it dawned on me--within the clutches of the enemy, I was perfectly safe from the dragons.--Chase Harper.

When Chase found the gold counter buried in a cave, he went back in time, setting in motion events that would change the course of his life and forever alter the destiny of the new world. After he and a small group of soldiers rescue his girlfriend Ellie from the Shuylians, they are overtaken during their race for the Algonian border. Chase falls into enemy hands, leaving Ellie to fend for herself. As time passes, he is believed dead--forever lost. So when Davy, Perception's Keeper, is charged with seeing to Ellie's safety, will his persuasions turn her heart away from Chase?

My Review

I usually only read ya fantasy when my sons beg me to. I also hadn't read the first two books in this series so you can imagine I was a bit reluctant about The Keeper's Defiance before I opened my Kindle.

I have to say I was drawn right into the book. I found myself extremely vested in Chase and Ellie's story. I wanted to cry for Chase in the hands of the enemy and for Ellie as she tries to evade the evil dude. I wish I would've read the other books first so I would've known more about each character, but this story was great as a stand alone. If you're a fan of fantasy, or if you're just looking for an enthralling story, I'd recommend this book.

I love Marie Higgins romance and this time travel was no exception. The romance made my heart thump and the story was so intriguing. I loved seeing the characters in different time periods and watching them fall in love twice was wonderful! Highly recommended.

What she plans is a vacation diversion; what fate provides is Braedon, an intriguing surgeon. She finds herself drawn to him: his gentle humor, his love of music, and even his willingness to let her take him down during morning karate practices. Against the backdrop of the ship’s make-believe world and its temporary friendships, her emotions come alive.

However, fear is an emotion, too. Unaware of the sensitive waters he navigates, Braedon moves to take their relationship beyond friendship--on the very anniversary Lyn came on the cruise to forget. But Lyn's painful memories are too powerful, and she runs off in a panic.

Things are bad enough when the pair finds themselves on one of the cruise’s snorkeling excursions in American Samoa. However, paradise turns to piracy when their party is kidnapped. Lyn’s fear of a fairytale turns grim. Now she must fight alongside the man she rejected, first for their freedom and then against storms, sharks, and shipwreck.

Confessions of a 16-Year-Old Virgin Lips (Episodes 1-3)
by Cindy M. Hogan

Regular price $3.99 Sale price: 99¢ Click here to purchase!

The first 3 Episodes of Confessions of a 16-Year-Old Virgin Lips in one book!
"First Kiss"
VL. Virgin Lips. You may not have heard of it, but where I live, it's a thing with a card, even if it is a figurative card. I was Brooklyn Hamlin, certified virgin lips, and I planned on clinging to that figurative card with all I had--while dating as many of the hottest guys at school as I could.

Maybe that's a bit strange. I mean, what teenage girl isn't interested in kissing? Locking lips definitely interested me, but the drama that came with it didn't. No kissing, no drama. Simple.

But on my sixteenth birthday, on my first real date even, the drama found me. His name was Luke Graham--cute, funny, and bad news for the whole female race.

"Stolen Kiss"
With my VL card gone, my flickering light of hope lay with Ryker, someone else who'd caught my eye. Only he could erase the memory of Luke, the boy who lip-raped me. Unfortunately, Luke was determined to keep me, or at the very least, ruin me.

"Rebound Kiss"
Brooklyn has become a social outcast at school thanks to Luke, who spent his entire weekend playing the victim and spreading rumors. And there’s nothing worse than Luke’s brand of justice. With no other way to escape her torn up, lonely life, she accepts an invitation to her cousin’s birthday party. Attending a party thrown by someone she doesn’t get along with is better than sitting home alone. The highlight of the party is meeting Riley, a boy who’s sweeter than the plate of sugar cookies he arrives with. After everything Brooklyn has been through, it seems that karma is finally on her side, but she soon learns that nothing is ever simple in the dating world.

The Accidental Marriage - Book Review

Nina Rushforth was born with a silver spoon caught
in her throat. She and her father have mapped out a future that includes a
brilliant legal career, a marriage to an equally stellar attorney or Wall
Street whiz kid, and eventually the production of three perfect children. A
semester at St. Andrew's University in Scotland, was part of the plan, but
falling in love with a handsome missionary was not.

Six months later, after Elliot returns
from his mission and after a tumultuous courtship, Nina finds herself teaching
at a junior high school, learning to keep house in a minuscule apartment, and
living with a man who doesn't know any more about being married than she does.
Intimacy, cooking, laundry, lesson plans, and a tug-of-war with a possessive
mother-in-law prove to be more overwhelming than Nina can successfully manage.
The newlyweds awaken to realize the head on the adjacent pillow belongs to a
stranger.

This novel captures the heartbreak of
young love caught in the turbulent social crosscurrents of the 70's, at a time
when brave women struggled to find dignity and equality in the workplace, as
well as peace at home.

My Review

The Accidental Marriage is an honest, heartfelt story. To say it's only about marriage would be a disservice as the book gets into women's rights issues that are heartbreaking and true to life, especially in that era. The marital strife Nina and Elliott experience is something most couples go through to some degree. I found myself rooting for these two yet wondering if they were ever going to make it work. It's definitely a story that stays with you.

Praise for THE
ACCIDENTAL MARRIAGE:

“A thoughtful,
heartbreaking, and often laugh-out-loud romp… Annette Haws explores the
interesting question: What keeps a marriage together?”

--Terrell Dougan, a
columnist for the Huffington Post and the author of That Went Well:
Adventures in Caring for my Sister

“Haws delivers a story
that makes you want to rush to the end to find out what happens and prose that
makes you want to slow down and savor it.”

--Karey White, author
of For What It’s Worth, Gifted, and My Own Mr. Darcy

“If you want a story
with plot, character and real, deep meaning that will leave you thinking long
after you’re done, this is the book for you.”

--Shannon Guymon,
author of Do Over

About
Annette:
Annette Haws’s
literary strengths are based upon her experiences in the classroom. She began
her teaching career as a junior high teacher in Richmond, Utah and ended it
teaching Sophomore English at Murray High School in Salt Lake City. However,
her favorite assignment was a five year period at Logan High School teaching
English, coaching debate and mock trial, and watching the antics of her own
three children who were also students in the same school.

Her first novel, Waiting for the Light to Change, won Best of
State in 2009, A Whitney Award for Best Fiction, and the Diamond Quill Award
for Best Published Fiction in 2009 from the League of Utah Writers. In July of
2008, the Midwest Book Review selected it as a Top Pick for Community Library
Fiction Collections.

A Timeless Romance Anthology: European Collection

Six Award-Winning Authors have contributed new stories to A Timeless Romance Anthology: European Collection. Readers will love this collection of six historical romance novellas set in Europe, all with one thing in common: Romance.

In War of Hearts, Annette Lyon’s exciting novella, Anna, a journalist, is desperate to escape the magazine where Pete, her now-former boyfriend, also works. Heartbroken and still in love with him, Anna snags an assignment to cover the Winter War in Finland. She arrives at a snowy Finnish battlefront only to discover that Pete is already there—as her photographer. She’s determined to be professional about the situation until a battle breaks out in camp, putting her and Pete in harm’s way and putting their love to the test.

In G.G. Vandagriff’s enchanting novella, The Earl of Oaksey Takes a Wife, Melissa Burroughs is the new Countess of Oaksey. Her whirlwind romance and subsequent elopement was worth every divine moment, even if her parents did disapprove. When Melissa learns about her new husband’s apparently empty pockets, she wonders if the intimacy they’ve shared is only the ruse of a fortune-hunter. Melissa is devastated and determines to live a separate life from her new husband. But the Earl has other plans, which do not include staying away from his wife.

In Michele Paige Holmes’ charming story, Gift of Love, Ethan Mooreleigh knows he’ll never love another woman after the loss of his beloved wife. Yet he needs a male heir to inherit his vast fortune. Ethan’s best friend, Stuart, has an idea and retrieves his sister, Amelia, who has been living in a convent since the tragic death of her parents. Amelia only agrees to enter into the contract marriage because there’s a child involved, Ethan’s neglected three-year-old daughter. When Amelia meets Ethan for the first time at the altar, she realizes that the last thing she wants her marriage to be is loveless. But winning a man whose heart is still broken may be impossible.

A Lesson in Love, a delightful novella by Sarah M. Eden, captures the uncertainties of newlywed life. Lucy Stanthorpe arrives for the London Season, planning to attend every ball and musicale with her new husband, Reed, only to discover he has no intention of taking part in the social whirl. Spurred on by their family and friends, Lucy and Reed each formulate increasingly outlandish plans to teach the other a lesson in appreciation. Their battle of wills threatens to pull the young couple apart unless they can both soften their stubborn hearts.

In An Ocean Away, Heather B. Moore’s captivating story, Gina Graydon knows the last thing she’ll attract on her holiday in France is an eligible bachelor. Tall, outspoken, and with a weakness for laughing at the wrong moment, not to mention being much too occupied with reading gothic romances, Gina decides she’d rather live in her fictional world. Besides, the only man who pays attention to her at the resort hotel happens to be her father’s worst enemy. And that is far from romantic. Reading in a secluded garden, and dreaming about the perfect kiss, all keep Gina much too busy to consider Mr. Edmund Donaldson any sort of hero.

Nancy Campbell Allen’s entrancing novella, What Happens in Venice, follows Evangeline Stuart as she determines to enjoy her vacation in Venice—her first and likely her last since she lives under the strict confines of her step-father’s control. When she meets the mysterious and romantic Conte Bellini, who happens to be Italy’s most eligible bachelor, she decides he is all part of the dream of visiting Venice. It’s impossible for her to believe that his interest in her is anything more than kindness to a foreign visitor. But when he discovers the true betrayal of her step-father, Evangeline learns the Conte may be the one person with the power to restore her happiness.

My Review

I loved this anthology written by some of my favorite clean romance authors. They all do a fabulous job of developing an enthralling romance even though each story was shorter than I wanted. I would have loved to keep reading more! I would highly recommend this anthology. They are great stories and if you haven't read some of these authors it will give you a taste of how amazing they are.

Happy about winter?

The high was twelve degrees in Cache Valley yesterday and we don't even have snow! My boys are beyond disgusted (the freezing weather doesn't bother them, no snow does) and I'm struggling to keep positive myself. I decided to write a list of what I love about winter.

1. Hot cocoa

2. Only have to shave my legs twice a week

3. I'm excited every morning to get sweaty and warm at the gym

4. Snuggling in front of the fire

5. Reading lots of books while snuggling

6. Christmas

7. Our schedule isn't quite as crazy

8. Sledding

9. Skiing

10. Catch up on projects

11. Ice skating

12. I have a warm house to hide out in until spring

13. Baking

14. The heaters work well in my van

Okay, that's all I can come up with and it's definitely not in any kind of order.

A little help? I'd love some suggestions so I can remember that I'm grateful it's winter!

Author Tag

I was asked by Sherry Gammon to participate in author tag. Sherry is not only a good friend but an amazing writer. If you haven't read her Port Fare series you are missing out! Unlovable and Unbelievable are out and she's working hard on the third story. I keep bugging her because I honestly cannot wait! Unlovable is also being made into a movie. So cool!

Okay, I'll stop bragging about Sherry and answer the questions.

What am I working on?

I started a new story this week about a lady who acts in small-town theater productions and has a vicious stalker. I had the nightmare about this one over a year ago and am just forcing myself to write it. I love the main characters but the events that transpire have ripped at my heart and I have a hard time writing it without crying.

How does my work differ from others in its genre?

Hmm. I try to combine a lot of aspects into my writing: romance, suspense, family drama, and humor and my books usually have some kind of underlying theme that I don't plan and occurs to me halfway through the book. I love when the theme appears but it makes for a lot of re-writing sometimes!

Why do I write what I do?

I write about my nightmares and my daydreams. I know that means I'm a bit twisted, but I get these characters and stories in my head and I just feel like I have to share their stories. They're like dear friends to me who must have a chance to tell their story too.

How does your writing process work?

I have some kind of nightmare and I write it down then I think and develop the story as I go along. I write a scene then when I'm running or in the shower or sleeping the next scene or two will play out in my head. It's kind of a messy way to write. I get the bulk of the story down then I rewrite dozens of times to develop and polish it.

To continue with this game of tag I chose my amazing critique partner, Daniel Coleman. He wrote one of my favorite all-time women's fiction novels, Gifts and Consequences . Look for him to post December 9th on his blog - http://dcolemanbooks.com/blog
