Thank you for the kind words, Matthew! I'm glad you enjoyed The Musubi Murder, and I agree, Nicole Gose, the narrator, is fantastic.

I'm about 35K words into The Blessed Event. The others (The Defunct Adjunct, The Cursed Canoe, The Black Thumb, and The Invasive Species) are complete at 60-70K words each, and awaiting edits. I am optimistic that I will be able to get Nicole for future audiobooks. She's very busy, as you can imagine, but I think she enjoyed the challenge of voicing so many different characters and exercising her excellent comic timing.

I'm going to have an interview with Nicole up on my blog soon. She has some interesting insights into the craft of audiobook narration. Stay tuned!(less)

It is fun, but it's also challenging, as I have to be highly alert to what to me are "everyday" things. Most readers don't live in Hawaii, so my job is to pick out telling details, like the pile of slippers (aka flip-flops) on the front porch during a party (and tipsy guests who sometimes walk off wearing the wrong pair).(less)

Midweek Mystery: Death on Dickens Island

Delia Dickens has come home to Dickens Island, a small island in the Long Island Sound, after a twelve-year stint in Manhattan. She’s looking forward to helping her father revitalize the general store that the family owns as well as curating a small book nook. “Molly. I have an opportunity for you.”
“An opportunity?” I repeated, without enthusiasm. Oh, good. Next comes the part where he tells me to be a “team player” and then dumps some tedious task on me.
“It’s a chance for you to show that you can be a team player,” Bill Vogel said.”
Frankie Bow, The Musubi Murder

“Did he talk about silos?”
“Of course he did,” I said. “We have to break down the silos that separate the academic side of the house from the Student Retention Office, apparently.”
Emma wrinkled her nose. “Why is it a good thing to break silos? All that happens when you break a silo is that the grain spills out. Or the missile falls over.”
Frankie Bow, The Musubi Murder

“I couldn’t bring myself to call him either “Bill,” which would signal friendly familiarity, or “Doctor Vogel,” which would imply respect.”
Frankie Bow, The Musubi Murder

“On my first day in London I made an early start. Reaching the Public Record Office not much after ten, I soon secured the papers I needed for my research and settled in my place. I became, as is the way of the scholar, so deeply absorbed as to lose all consciousness of my surroundings or of the passage of time. When at last I came to myself, it was almost eleven and I was quite exhausted: I knew I could not prudently continue without refreshment.”
Sarah Caudwell, Thus Was Adonis Murdered

“He had the look of one who had drunk the cup of life and found a dead beetle at the bottom.”
P.G. Wodehouse

“I know I was writing stories when I was five. I don’t remember what I did before that. Just loafed, I suppose.”
P. G. Wodehouse
