When her six-year-old nephew vanishes from a neighborhood carnival, Aubrey Lynd’s safe, snow-globe world fractures; it shatters when the FBI’s investigation raises questions about her own family that Aubrey can’t answer.

Aubrey picks apart the inconsistencies to expose the first of many lies: a ransom note—concealed from the FBI—with a terrifying and impossible ultimatum. Aubrey doesn’t know what to believe or whom to trust. The abduction is clearly personal—but why would someone play a high-stakes game with the life of a child? The more she presses for answers, the more Aubrey is convinced that her mother is hiding something.

Desperate to save her young nephew, Aubrey must face harsh truths and choose between loyalty to her family and doing the right thing. And she’d better hurry, because vengeance sets its own schedule, and time is running out.

Diana is out having the time of her life with her grandson from whom she was estranged for most of his youth. The most horrifying thing happens when he disappears on her watch. Her character is questioned among her family and loved ones at the tragedy that happened. Aubrey who’s life is in shambles from the break-up with her boyfriend puts her studies on hold and rushes down to Florida to be with her family. As she starts putting the pieces together life-long family secrets start to unravel and the kidnapping starts to reveal some dark spots in her parents past. Will Aubrey get to the truth in time to save her nephew and prevent another tragedy?

In an Oyster Shell –This suspense-thriller will leave you on the edge of your seat turning page after page. I recommend it.

The Pearls – The concept of this book appears to be a simple thriller but as the story progresses the reader will find that its a complicated plot. The concept of this book was well executed. It was a tangled web of deceit and secrets that are revealed by the catalyst of the kidnapping. The author proved to be a story mastermind as she eloquently weaved the story into place.

The POV was interesting in this story. It was the grandmother and the aunt of the boy that was kidnapped. The aunt’s POV played an integral part in piecing the story together. It made the story makes sense. What couldn’t be understood from the aunt’s POV was supplemented by the grandmother made for a full story.

The characters in this story were fairly complicated. A few of the characters had a lot to hide. The character development from the story present and the story past was excellent.

The Sand –This book was well done and the best book I’ve read in a long time.

Natalie’s world is shaken to its core when she discovers an old photo of a woman who looks like her. Could this woman be related to her birth mother, who put Natalie up for adoption as a baby? When she tracks down the person who dumped the photo album at her thrift shop, she’s shaken again. Especially when the gorgeous fire-fighting guitarist offers to help her find the owner. They quickly become friends – which is all they’ll be, as far as Natalie’s concerned. Her rebellious youth turned her off cheating men, and the new Natalie is looking for true love and a family of her own – something Casey isn’t willing to provide. But how long can Natalie ignore her undeniable attraction to the man with the Irish accent and the broken-down ’57 Chevy?

In Chelsey Krause’s second novel, friends become lovers over a whirlwind summer of rockabilly rhythms, twirling skirts, and a mystery that takes them hilariously far out of their element.

Natalie manages a thrift store. She is surprised to find a box that contains a photo and some letters to someone that looks exactly like her. Being adopted she has hopes that this might be a family member. She goes off on the hunt and is surprised again when she makes friends with super hot firefighter Casey Nolan. They become fast friends in pursuit of her family history. Things become complicated when they hit dead ends and Natalie finds herself falling for her friend who says he’s not looking for is happily-ever-after. Will she be able to keep her feelings at bay? Will she find out about her birth family?

In an Oyster Shell – This is one of those books I will be looking to shove in people’s hands. It was a beautiful fun romance!

The Pearls – The concept of this story was imaginative and well executed. I liked the theme of the rockabilly much to my surprise. This story was overall well crafted.

The romance in this book was sweet, yet not over the top. It was a genuinely good romance. Those are hard to come by. Falling in love with a friend is the best kind of romance you can get. The anticipation of this love was palpable. I waited with bated breath for it to come to fruition.

The characters were amazing. The main character was likable and easy to connect with from the beginning. The supporting characters were well-developed no matter how big or small their role was.

The setting of the book was nice. I like Canada and we get to see some of the backwoods of this country.

The Sand – The pacing of this book was ever so slightly slow at times.

Friday Coffee & Bookish Speaks – The Turning Point

friday-coffee-bookish-speaks

I am drinking fresh brewed coffee with cream paired with a delicious everything bagel with cream cheese.

What are you treating yourself to this Friday?

I read so many books now. I have found a pattern I find fascinating. I call it the turning point. It’s that point I get in a book where it’s no longer just another book I’m reading but I am all in for that particular story. I wait for this moment I anticipate it.

I am sorry to say that it takes me longer to get to this point in some books then others. Sometimes it doesn’t happen until 25% into the book. By then, I am strongly considering putting it down. Then that magical moment happens and I can’t put it down. It makes the other 20% to get there worth it.

Maybe it takes a long time for me to get hooked into a story because I read so much. Not much is surprising. Yet somehow most books have that turning point. The point where it’s magic.

What is the turning point for you in a book?

Feature & Follow Friday – Audiobooks

feature-and-follow

Today’s topic is do you listen to audiobooks.

giphy (12)

The answer is no I don’t usually. I got one audiobook from a giveaway and I listened to that. Other than that, I don’t listen to audiobooks. I am just not interested in them. I have to be occupied doing something else or I need the interaction of reading words. Audiobooks just don’t hold my interest.  If I was busy sewing or had a long commute I might change my mind.

Chaos is what rules Sadie’s life. Separation, lies, and an overpowering Talent have pushed her fragile sanity to the breaking point. Without Kian to fall back on, Sadie has to learn that her strength comes from within – as well as from those she loves. Just when Sadie begins to attain some stability, the true nature of her Talent reveals itself, causing her world to shift.

War is on the horizon. Tensions are rising at an exponential pace between the US government and the Caelian citizens of America ever since the exploits of the HPC were exposed. Communities are being torn apart. The United States is on the brink of another civil war. Mistrust, hatred, and fear are the fuel behind the violence plaguing its citizens. Something needs to shift.

Peace is what unites the HCA and the Caelian families who strive for positive change. Some progress is being made, until Miles Koenig reveals his master plan 20 years in the making. Hoping to enact change and unify the nation, Sadie embarks on a dangerous mission not only to stop her grandfather, but to transform the pending war into a revolution for peace.

Everything is going to SHIFT

In this last insatllment of the Caelien Cycle series, we find Sadie a little worse for the wear. She is forced to reside at her Great aunt’s house while the war that was instigated by her Grandfather wages between Caelien’s and the norms. Sadie is struggling with PTSD and her new environment missing her friends. She struggles to get her talent under control. With the help of some new faces and her old friends they seek to make Sadie better so she can play her part in ending the war. At what cost will it come to Sadie will she lose friends or possibly more?

In an Oyster Shell – It was a bittersweet ending to the Caelien Cycle series, I recommend this book and the whole series!

The Pearls – After I ended this book I was super sad because, in the end, this series was on point. It was excellent, it was good. You really know the quality of story by how well it ends. I was very impressed with this series ending.

The pacing of this book was unique compared to other books in the series. There was a lot of inter-personal reflection which was necessary. Usually, I wouldn’t have patience for this in a book but in previous books (in this series) the action was so intense, the change in pace was nice and appropriate.

The characters both old and new were great and kept me turning the pages. I feel like we get a more complete look at Sadie the MC. It really helps put everything in perspective. I like how the author included new characters while embracing the old. The relationships these characters had made me feel like I was right in the middle of the story.

The Sand – This book is the strongest yet, that I have read from this author. I still feel that she will command more authority in her stories as she grows in more experience. I can tell because this series has shown incredible growth and I imagine it will continue.

4 Pearls!

rating-4-pearls

I am going to take a moment and do a quick review for the series. In short, it was most excellent. Like I said in this review I’ve seen the author grow in leaps and bounds. She really hit the series out of the park with the last book. This is a series I am proud to recommend to people because it really is that good. I sat on my Goodreads account recommending it to people left and right, something that I don’t usually do. I would say with sound character structure and the strong plot that continued over three books – I gladly give this series 5 pearls!

Breanna Mitchell is on her way to a relaxing vacation at the ocean. Maybe she'll even have a beachside fling to help her get over a recent breakup. But when a tropical storm makes her destination hotel uninhabitable, a chance encounter at continental breakfast delivers a fabulous option—with a catch.

She and her friends can stay at a privately-owned, three-story oceanfront home—if she pretends to be the girlfriend of the owner's heartbreaker grandson, Ethan. Since he won't even be there, how hard could it be?

Everything is going swimmingly until Bree drinks too much wine and regales the family with romantic tales about her relationship with Ethan. His adorable brother Adam gets suspicious. His marriage-minded grandma gets engagement fever. The beautiful woman next door gets teary-eyed.

And then, Ethan unexpectedly arrives. Suddenly Bree is about to get everything she's ever wished for—but is it what she really wants?

Breann is looking forward to her vacation with her girlfriends and other members of the Continental Breakfast club. She is looking forward to relaxing and possibly having a fling to get over a recent break-up. What she doesn’t anticipate is meeting someone who is need of her pretending to be their brother’s girlfriend. She asked to do this or otherwise they are written out of the family will. The little fib turns into a big tale that is hard to keep up with and the vacation is not what Breann had planned.

In an Oyster Shell – This was a heart-warming laugh out loud read. I highly recommend it.

The Pearls – The concept of this second book was good. It was even crazier than the first book. It was really well executed. The author showed a masterful skill of wielding a fantastical tale that again had me laughing out loud.

The romance in this story was really sweet. I love how this series brings out the concept of love in unexpected places. I like how the love story was just complicated enough to be interesting.

You can’t go through this series and not talk about the characters. The characters are well-developed and are standing true throughout the series. The characters were just has funny and even more well-defined. I like the new characters that were introduced in this book.

The Sand – I thought this book was really well done.

From award-winning author, Pamela Ford, comes a delightful romantic comedy series, The Continental Breakfast Club . . .

Allie Parker's had enough. Just because she's a dog groomer, her overachieving family of doctors and lawyers treats her like a child. She's convinced that a successful husband is all she needs to change their attitudes.

So when she and her friends come up with a brilliant new way to meet eligible men, Allie squeezes into her sister's stylish clothes and sneaks into continental breakfast at an upscale hotel to find herself the perfect guy. Before Allie has taken her last bite of syrup-laden waffle, she's met the man of her dreams. But what she doesn't know is that he's a jewel thief who mistakenly thinks she's his contact—and so does everyone else who's after his stash of diamonds.

Suddenly Allie's world is crazily upended. And as she scrambles to prove her innocence and get back to her old life, she discovers happily ever after sneaks up when you least expect it.

Allie is tired of being treated like the baby of the family she is. She decides that if she finds the right man they will treat her more like an adult. Her friends come up with the idea of meeting men at hotels at Continental breakfasts. Allie is all for the idea and borrows her successful sisters clothes because she can’t go dressed as a dog groomer. All things seem to be going well when she meets a guy that she thinks fits the bill and you are drawn into an adventure where not everything is at it seems.

In an Oyster Shell – This was a heart-warming laugh out loud read. I highly recommend it.

The Pearls – This book was so cute but above all else, the humor in it left me in tears! You can tell the author has a wicked sense of humor through the things the characters say and do. I was beyond delighted and was laughing out loud at two in the morning because I was up reading this book.

The premise of this story was  cute and well executed. The plot was well done. It was a fun concept and watching it play out, was even more, fun than that. It was extremely well done.

This story would not be without its well-developed characters. The characters had this story moving at a quick pace. They were quick witted and very determined, which made for a really enjoyable read.

The Sand – The main character in this story was a little naive´beyond belief. It was a bit distracting at times.
