Podcast – Amor Vincit Omnia

This podcast is a reading of about half of my short story Amor Vincit Omnia that deals with humor and (I hope) gentle irony with a number of issues that may resonate with my gentle readers, but ultimately is about the very real need of human beings to find true love—wherever they can find it.

Siren’s Song

I just recorded a quick podcast with a reading of one of my early and still favorite sonnets, Siren’s Song. You can hear it at https://anchor.fm/victor-d-lopez/episodes/Sirens-Song-a-sonnet-etoj7n

Siren’s Song

Poetry is a dangerous siren’s song,
That calls the soul towards a chasm deep,
Dulling the mind and making the heart long,
For that which it may touch, yet never keep.

A Sonnet is too much the friend of truth,
And leaves no room for self-deluding lies,
It conjures up the honesty of yout...

Ain’t gonna rhyme no more . . .

ain’t gonna rhyme no more

Such artificial nonsense rhyme,
That can turn art into slime,
Make your thoughts not worth a dime,
And words a total waste of time.

Throw away the limiting forms,
Burn all the idiotic norms,
Old-fashioned rules are for fools,
No one but me plays with my tools!

The new trinity is Me, Myself and I!
I set the rules for every game,
And follow none, just the same,
Anarchy rules all, that’s no lie!

Iambic pentameter? Pyrrhic substitutions?
Who the hell cares about those ill...

New Podcast and Book Bubble (poetry)

You can read this poem and my brief commentary on it in a new book bubble at https://bubli.sh/98WBy72. As always, I am grateful for all those who view or listen to my posts, podcasts, and book bubbles. Writing has kept me more or less sane during this pandemic (though my wife may disagree), and a writer without readers is like painting locked in a trunk or an orchestra without an audience. Thank you for your support!

New Podcasts and Free Books

Happy Sunday everyone! If like me you are spending some quiet time at home

these days, I hope you will consider checking out my podcasts hosted by the sites below. Some are very brief–a single sonnet or short poem–and others run for about an hour (readings from my novel and selections of my longest free verse poem to date, Unsung Heroes). I hope you can find something of interest there. These are cold readings with no special equipment, but I am greatly enjoying the process and will cont...

Last Chance for Free Books This Weekend

Some of my books have been available exclusively through Amazon for the past three months, but my KDP Select enrollment is ending and I will not renew it as I prefer to have the books available through all retailers. Therefore, I am using up my limited “free days” for the enrolled books and short stories starting tomorrow (3/20) and running from one to three days depending on the book. This includes my book on copyright law, my first poetry collection, a book of select stories translated into Sp...
