121 - An Imperator's Ignorance
My confinement lasted six more days. On the final evening, I sat in my window seat, looking out over the dark woods, and the faint twinkling of Lakeside walk lamps. This was safe, in here, having everything come to me. I wondered if that was why Father did it, wrapped the Marble Palace around Himself. I leaned out and unlatched the window so I could catch more of the the city lights. I let

120 - Darkness, Thunder and Storm
I found it was a relief... after Ilesisas's birthday party I went back to my rooms. I didn't quite go back into my bed but close. I stripped off the weight of the over-robes, with Definas and Silasas's help. They didn't say much, but just lifted the weight off my shoulders. Sapphires. It was all gold and sapphires. The under-robe was soaked with my sweat. I put on my cotton clothing

119 - HOW Could YOU?
Father had left us to continue the celebration without Him. Ilesias got to sit in the head-chair and was served the first piece of his cake. He ate four pieces. I sat next to him, tucking my skates under the table and enjoyed the rich, melting taste of cake without additives, since he might never have to endure those poisons. Though, given Father's sensibilities, he might wish Ilesias

118 - With lead rope and honey cakes
It was only a few eight-days away from Ilesias's second birthday and I had bought him a white Great Hound puppy almost the same size he was, a pet snow tiger and a miniature winged shoulder lizard striped like a rainbow. Of course all the animals were very carefully trained and had their handlers and keepers. I thought he might like those, and the 'Big machine' I had an artist build in the

117 - I Appreciate the Attention
I made my face very solemn. "He won't tell me what level he is in sword-craft, just that he's not Tafas Rasas." I raised both my eyebrows at him and he closed his eyes. "Hmm. If the Spark would be so kind as to indulge an old man and inform him of the Spark's level of sword learning?" "Tafas Rasas." "Then this one is certain that Silasas is doing the entirely correct... and polite.

116 - General Mud
I waited for Silasas and his Uncle in my own library. He'd arrived a few days ago and had rested from his journey at the family's townhouse. It was after dinner but not too late. I had the kaf service set up next to the brazier because it was still stone cold in the Marble Palace this early in the spring, at night. I had a stack of books next to me that I intended to read soon. I'd

115 - The cut of this dress
The ladies in waiting played a game of Graces in the Elegant Gem courtyard, the hoop, with its ribbons flying floating from lady to lady, for each of them to catch with gilded wands and send on to the next. Their over-sleeves, laced onto their outer dresses, floated in the breeze from the opened glass roof.Kyriala folded back both pairs of her over-sleeves, the purple to the shoulder hooking the

114 - Beyond Damnation
<![endif:]--> It was another late night. This time I came to the White Corridor with a kitchen slave and service cart in tow. 1st Amitzas was nowhere in sight The Mahid in the guard room didn't know what to do at first, but I straightened them out. "My late night meal has already been tasted, Mahid, you needn't. I require a chair placed into the dark corridor so I may sit at leisure."

I'm thinking I should warn people that the next few posts are probably going to be pretty sad. I'll do my best to bring in as much relief as possible.
