Breaking news: Straight women dig girl-on-girl porn

K.C. Cave How do I know that straight women overwhelming enjoy lesbian porn?

I read it on The Huffington Post (Why so many straight women watch lesbian porn," http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/07... July 8).

"A 2014 report from the free porn site Pornhub http://www.pornhub.com/insights/what-...,,, revealed that 'lesbian' was far and away the top viewed category among its female users, as well as the top search term -- and women were 445 percent more likely than men to search for 'girl on girl.' Though the survey relied on Google analytic demographic stats and therefore did not capture users’ sexual orientation, the overwhelming popularity of those terms hints at a lot of straight women getting off on same-sex porn. So does the marked uptick in searches for 'lesbian seduces straight girl,' which increased by 328 percent between 2013 and 2014, according to PornHub's internal data http://www.pornhub.com/insights/2014-...."

My question: Does this parallel with erotica, which, according to accepted wisdom, has mostly women readers? I have no idea (and doubt if anyone does). But lesbian erotica is not a bestselling category. So probably not.

Read down in the article and you'll some rationale for why women like to watch women making love (and, presumably, masturbate; I do!).

First, "much of the appeal of same-sex porn has little to do with potentially complex questions of sexual fantasy and fluidity, and more to do with the simple fact that much of the lesbian porn that's out there tends to give more air time to acts that actually get women off."

Foreplay, in other words. "If heterosexual porn provided more of what these women were looking for -- foreplay, oral sex and women who seem to be actually orgasming rather than just shrieking theatrically -- they might be more interested..."

Yep. The other reason? With an emphasis on non-penetrative sex (for the most part), women find lesbian porn sexier. "Lesbian porn provides the best approximation of what [a woman] actually craves in her real life: A sense of genuine enjoyment. A skilled partner."

Now I'll add my opinion: Watching two women make love is just plain sexier. Women are sexier. Women are beautiful. That's why, with a few exceptions, the pictures on my website (http://www.kccaveerotica.com) are of nude women (many of them having lesbian sex).

The Parasol: 5 stars on E-Read Erotica Reviews

The Parasol
Melanie rose and returned to the window, her back to her husband. Her feminine silhouette revealed a waist that was cinched small enough, through the use of stays and corsets, that a man could entirely circle it with his hands.

“Beulah told Big Jim when we would be taking our stroll and where he could meet us.” She turned and faced her husband.

“Oh, Beau, it was so wonderful! To see my black sister and her lover embrace!”

“You
watched them?”

“Beulah is not shy when it comes to the physical act of love, Beau…”

Let us celebrate history today by reading and entertaining bit of fictional historical erotica with K.C. Cave’s wonderfully entertaining short called “The Parasol.” This is erotica set between a plantation owner and his wife just before the Civil War. He isn’t giving her the attention she needs so she takes it upon herself to spend her afternoons with a female house servant she grew up with, and that servant’s lover, one of the men who work in the fields. The two girls take their turns with this handsome and manly stud of a man, and the book deals with the aftermath and the husband’s questioning of his wife about this matter.

This is a great example of how to write a sex scene without having to write a sex scene. All of the kinky details are related, as they happened in the past. The heat is definitely still there, and the slow reveal is almost like a striptease to the reader. This is masterfully done and I love it. As readers, where sitting on the edge of our seat and furiously pressing our Kindle’s next page button as we read. After the scene is recounted we get a delicious spanking followed by another sex scene, and then a quite humorous and surprise ending, which I shall not spoil.

...A strong recommend for this one for lovers of historical erotica set during the Civil War era. A strong recommend for general erotica readers, and those with a penchant for spanking and naughty wives. This is one that isn’t to be taken terribly seriously like a Gone With the Wind, it’s just a short for fun and a sexy fictional diversion and fantasy. An excellent little piece of work here, not only is this researched, it sets the tone wonderfully, keeps moving at a brisk pace, stops for the little details, and knows when to turn up the burner and boil the pot.

What's that wailing in the distance? Erotica writers screwed by Amazon

K.C. Cave As you probably know, Amazon has this deal where you pay $10 a month and get unlimited access to all the smut you want. Called Kindle Unlimited, it's sort of like Netflix, but for chronic masturbators (as a chronic masturbator, I say that with all due respect). Erotic short story writers have been raking it in for the last year or so as people downloaded erotica like it was free.

The wailing marks the end of the joy ride. Amazon just changed the royalty rules midstream (and, in a very Amazonian way, with little warning). Instead of earning, say, $1.30 for every download, writers who sold their souls to KU are getting a paltry half-cent for every page that's read.

Ouch. Shouldn't have quit that day job.

Am I wailing? Fuck, no. I resisted the temptation and didn't sign up for KU. Now I can gloat.

You see, to get your stories into KU, you have to agree not to sell them anywhere else. Not Nook. Not Smashwords. Not Apple. It's called exclusivity.

Fuck exclusivity. Why would anyone want to restrict their marketing to just Amazon?

Greed. That's why. I'm no saint, but I'm not so desperate for money that I would deprive millions of non-Amazon readers the opportunity to buy my erotica.

Actually, that's not true. I'm as greedy as the next person.

The reason I really didn't sign on to KU was because Amazon is run by a bunch of loathsome and lying business people with an established track record of unscrupulousness. (I am being kind.)

KU sounded too good to be true: Upload your poorly written, ungrammatical 3,500-word lactation fantasy and earn $1.30 every time some poor bastard clicked on it?

It was too good to be true. Anyone not blinded by greed could see this one coming.

The XXX Widow: 5 stars on E-Read Erotica Reviews

The XXX Widow
Cuckold wife ownership of her submissive husband and trading him off to another woman with similar man troubles gets us into a strange but kinky as hell book today from KC Cave. I kept wondering where this book would go, if the husband would dump his dominant wife, if the man woman #2 was having trouble with would submit – I really couldn’t predict this one, and it took me down a strange path of twists and turns I rather enjoyed. It ended up with an incredible lesbian sex scene, one of the best ones I read this year (100+ books at this point), and that is no small feat.

Wow, yes, I am still reeling and cooling off from this scene, and it is a highlight of the book. Heat level is volcanic for this one, just an incredible job.

Multiple orgasms for men?

That's the claim made by some sex educators--that, yes, men can experience multiple orgasms, just as many women can. “Men and women are physiologically a lot more similar than people realize," sex educator Jack Johnston told Alternet (http://www.alternet.org/sex-amp-relat...). "Vive la différence, of course, but in terms of the neurological capacity for experiencing the orgasmic impulses, we’re wired in quite a similar manner.”

I can't comment on whether it's true that men are capable of multiple orgasms. But the article points out that a key component is withholding ejaculation and, as a result, experiencing many sexual peaks.

And that, as I've always maintained, is the key to better sex between men and women. If the man is holding back his orgasm, the result is prolonged lovemaking, right?

"A really good lover is a man who is focused on only one thing when having sex with a woman: pleasing her. Nothing else. It’s not about his orgasm. Ever. It’s all about hers," I wrote last year in a post, "Men, the key to great sex? Please your woman."

So whether Johnston's multiple orgasm technique (https://multiples.com/) works, it appears to be part of the same thing: prolonging sex. Not only do women, who are (face it) sexually superior, get off more. So do men.

May is Masturbation Month

K.C. Cave Regular readers of this blog know that every month is masturbation month for me (and that I masturbate almost every day!). But it’s also official (National Masturbation Month is now 20 years old), so I’m passing along this article from MindBodyGreen, 10 Reasons To Make Masturbation Part Of Your Wellness Routine (http://www.mindbodygreen.com/0-18581/...).

My favorite? Number 6, “Daydreaming kicks life up a notch:: “…sexy daydreams release testosterone in women, which means that when you read erotic fiction, or watch any kind of porn that excites you, your body will begin anticipating encounter, which naturally raises your libido and quite literally gets your juices flowing.”

So, yes, there’s evidence out there that erotica is good for you.

What's your masturbation routine?

It's a legitimate question, right? I mean, Salon just did an informal survey of readers and came up with fifteen stories, from men and women, of how they jill and jack off: "'I’ve put condoms on hairbrush handles and used those': 15 people share their masturbation rituals." (http://www.salon.com/2015/03/22/i%E2%...)

What surprised me the most? That so many of the women watched porn while they rub themselves off. One, a straight woman, watches lesbian porn because "the men in porn are such turn-offs." (She doesn't say, but I wonder if, like me, she's bothered by the over-endowed members of male porn performers.) Another married woman goes to the den at night, while her husband sleeps in the bedroom, and watches porn with her vibrator.

A self-described "bi-sexual kinky girl into dom/sub stuff" finds the best porn on Bing (got to check that out), but honors her values by only sourcing ethical porn. "...I’m going to keep my integrity in every moment, including when I’m masturbating," she said. "There’s really nothing like thinking about social justice while rubbing your clit."

My favorite is the woman who describes her masturbation as a bedtime ritual. "I imagine my vibrator’s entrance into my life was not dissimilar to the experience of someone who begins praying before bed each night; it’s a way to connect to a higher power, remember my body, remember what matters, and then allow a sense of calm to settle in before falling asleep," she said.

Oh, yeah.

With a book, vibrator and batteries, she settles in for the night. Then, she often switches to erotic poetry (a genre I'm not familiar with). That gets her into a meditative state: "After I turn off the lights, I run my hands over various parts of my body, and then I lie down on my vibrator and … voila! I think masturbating every day is a really lovely way to enrich your life, connect to your body, and make sure you never have trouble getting to sleep."

I've also blogged about my own masturbation routine (or, at least, a favorite): "I touch myself." (http://kccaveerotica.com/2014/03/14/i...) Now that warm weather is approaching here in the U.S., I'm going to do another post soon about one of my all-time favorite ways to get off: masturbating outdoors.

Why didn't I think of this?

Instead of writing erotica, I could be an internet star--if I had the smarts and looks (and, ahem, youth) of Kendra Sunderland.

It's like this: Kendra, an Oregon State University undergrad, found a quiet corner in the school library, hooked to up Wifi, and filmed an X-rated webcam show. If that isn't hot enough, she got busted.

And, as a result, got a shitload of publicity. Now she's in PornHub's top 50 and has a new career.

And, no doubt, is making a lot more money than me.

Sigh.

Well, I don't have her boobs (not many women do) or her chutzpah. But gotta admire her spunk.

From TheSmokingGun.com (http://www.thesmokinggun.com/document...), where I first read of the 19-year-old's exploits:

Prosecutors have filed a public indecency charge against the former Oregon State University student who last month filmed an X-rated webcam show inside the school’s main library, according to court records.

Kendra Sunderland, 19, was named last week in a misdemeanor criminal information filed in Circuit Court in Benton County.

The February 17 charging document alleges that Sunderland, a Corvallis resident, “did and with the intent of arousing the sexual desire of defendant or another person, expose her genitals” while inside the university’s Valley Library.

Intrigued? Want to help the young lady's new career? Check her out on PornHub (http://www.pornhub.com/pornstar/kendr...). Gotta love the way she chews bubblegum during her library exploit. You'll also find other homemade pornos of her masturbating and making love to her boyfriend (who, oddly, doesn't have an eight-inch megadick).

In a few years, after those delicious boobs start to go south, maybe OSU will hire her back to teach an internet marketing course.

"50 Shades" release boosts female interest in (drum roll) BDSM

Women, reportedly the major consumers of erotica, are reacting in droves to the hit release of "50 Shades of Grey." According to TheFrisky.com, PornHub has seen huge increases in searches for search terms related to BDSM.

"It’s women, in particular, who are suddenly way more interested in BDSM porn: Among women, searches for terms like 'submission,' 'dominate,' 'BDSM,' and 'spanking' are up 150-200 percent," wrote blogger Rebecca Vipond Brink in "PornHub Has 'Fifty Shades' To Thank For Increased BDSM Searches" (http://www.thefrisky.com/2015-02-20/p...).

"And maybe some of them will find suspension and anal fisting and genital clamps and electroshock extremely arousing and look into safely giving it a try, and good for them; and maybe some of them will see that it’s well beyond their tolerance and will stay the hell away from it in their personal sex lives, and good for them, too," Brink sagely added.

Here's one erotica author hoping the surge in interest in kink translates into more sales. Those women who give the real thing a pass can always read about it, right? After all, the mind is the biggest sex organ.

Do condoms kill the mood of a book?

Erotica author and editor Rachel Kramer Bussel asks the question in a recent Salon article, "Do condoms kill the mood of a book?" (http://www.salon.com/2015/01/31/do_co...) Erotica authors don’t agree on safe sex demands--and gets an array of answers from other writers of fiction that's meant to arouse.

Some writers say the lack of safe sex practices raises a red flag--"not out of 'political correctness,' but because it detracts from the reading experience," Kramer wrote. Others point out that erotica is fantasy--god knows, enough of the ebooks on Amazon put disclaimers right at the top--and the fact that characters aren't wearing rubbers is part of the fantasy. Why, they ask, kill the mood?

Where do I fall in the debate? Somewhere in the middle. In Upping The Ante, my main character, Alison, takes on seven horny steelworkers in a back-of-the-bar serial gangbang. To not have her use condoms struck me as absurd and a distraction for readers. So she rolls 'em on the happy guys (and I had fun writing it). But I didn't overplay it. And later that night, when she has sex with her old fuck buddy, they don't use a rubber.

In Making Michael Obey, a kinky MF romp between a committed, live-in couple, it never even occurred to me to have them use protection. In my gay orgy story, Welcome To The Club, it seemed natural that everyone used a condom. Again, I didn't overplay it. Rolling one on a throbbing dick was just part of the action.

Happily, it's not an issue with my lesbian erotica. And here's an opportunity to plug one of my favorite erotica topics (and activities): masturbation. It's the ultimate safe sex practice.

To me, it's all about verisimilitude--yes, even in erotic fantasy--and not needlessly distracting the reader from the unfolding fun.
