Reviewed: Taken Hard in the Woods

E-Read Erotica Reviews (http://ereaderotica.com/?p=5752): They are exactly what I would imagine two horny hikers to be like, ever chasing wood in the forest, using every spare moment for sex, and endlessly thinking with their more smaller, yet endlessly more lustful heads….The book ends with a remarkable and genre-breaking scene which not only highlights the differences between an all-male outing, and one where a woman makes things a bit more complex. Add some artful highlight scenes, genre-breaking scenes, and a bittersweet ending and we have a book that takes the concept of an action-only book to a new level of depth and meaning. I enjoyed this.

Uncharted Territory by Jim Lyon

A straight guy and his lesbian roommate (not the only improbable in this story) embark on a friends-with-benefits relationship (here's another one), and our hero discovers something about himself--he enjoys serving women. As in, serving their sexual needs to dominate. This opens the door to a wide range of kinks, all of them eye-opening to this relatively vanilla reader. He's lucky in that his friend-with-benefits and her kinky lover take him on as an apprentice to teach him the ropes (yes, that's a pun) and eventually enter the lifestyle so he can find his one-true-love/dominant to serve.

On a parallel track, a woman buys a fixer-upper in Oregon and, hold on to your seat, discovers a secret room filled with BDSM equipment and a computer chock full of explicit D/s videos (another improbable). Well, it's fiction, right? You can see where this is going--the woman finds the dungeon gear incredibly hot, discovers her one true self as a person who gets off inflicting pain and humiliation on someone who craves getting inflicted, and begins her search for her ultimate sex slave. 'Nuff said. Our hero and the new dom cross paths, the D/s scenes are hot, they live happily ever after.

Lyon's rather stiff, academic, tell-not-show prose contrasts delightfully with the naughty words and explicit goings-on. The result is that it's a lot of fun to listen to (and, I suspect, better than reading the book). Five stars for the narrator, Hollie Jackson, who never skips a beat, handles with aplomb Lyon's occasional (and disconcerting to me, anyway) French word and phrase (a nod to Sade? I'm so new to this...), glides through the technical sexual descriptions with ease, and has a very pleasant voice. Overall, I enjoyed Uncharted Territory. My first King novel. Scary as hell. Quibble: Danny didn't talk or act like any 5-year-old I've encountered. It took me out of the story occasionally. It was fun to contrast it with the movie, which I like (I think of it as a comedy about writers' block).

In which I discover Elmore Leonard

Stick by Elmore Leonard

Just getting into Leonard (a little late, I know). Started with Hombre, because it's one of Paul Newman's greatest roles. The book didn't disappoint. Stick was outstanding--Miami in the coke-fueled 80s, but from the bottom up. Stick is just out of prison, gets a job as a driver for a rich, wise-guy Jewish investor. It's filled with crazy characters with too much money doing too many drugs (except Stick). Leonard's reputation for dialog is well deserved. I've got a lot to learn from reading him. Just started 52 Pickup.

Reviewed: Love for Rent (Book 5 of Junie Makes Michael)

E-Read Erotica Reviews (http://ereaderotica.com/?p=5718): The one thing I love about this series is it is so off-the-wall and unpredictable…Here, the series dips into scandal and a dash of redemption as the trio find their way in a sexually charged world. A lot of books take you on a predictable arc, but this one goes places I never thought the series would go, and I love it…

It is as readable as comfort food is edible. It’s funny, full of quips and one-liners, and then it turns around and gets nasty the next heartbeat…We also have a very Noir-like non-linear story here, with some jumping around, a great teaser to start, and plenty of scenes left to our imaginations. The jumping around in time works very well here… This is wonderful storytelling that keeps me interested, and hits the sexy notes perfectly…

This reads very nicely, with witty dialog and enough heat to get the fire started. I am in love with the storytelling here, it keeps the reader’s attention at every turn, and makes me want to flip the page to see more…Humor and witty dialog add the icing to the cake, and this is another great installment to this offbeat and wonderfully sexy tale.

1. What are your sexual strengths and weaknesses?

Strengths: Always horny (I love sex!). Multi-orgasmic. Love to give oral (women are so intricate!). Can kiss and lick and suck for hours. Committed to satisfying my partners. Banned by Amazon! Seeding the Brat by K.C. Cave

Well, not exactly banned---"adult filtered," which means it can't be searched on Amazon. So what? But something got under Amazon's skin (the book was published last year, and just got the proverbial ax). Maybe it's the cover model's nearly nude ass? Or that it's barely disguised brother/sister pseudo-incest? Whatever. It's one of my hottest books, featuring explicit mutual MF masturbation fun. In which I venture into Kindle Unlimited

I've resisted the siren's call of KU, mainly because I trust Amazon as far as I can throw it (its policies re erotica are vague and ever-changing, and its penalties are draconian). And I certainly felt smug last fall when the corporation pulled the rug out from beneath erotica writers by dropping the royalty rate (which, most agree, was unrealistically high). But now the rate is extremely low--somewhere around a half-cent a page read (how the royalty is calculated).

With all that said, a lot of writers still swear that KU is too enormous to ignore, marketing-wise. So I listed my latest book, Love for Rent (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A...), on KU as an experiment.

It's highly unlikely that simply listing one book will have a big impact on my sales, although hope springs eternal that folks who read it will want to check out the rest of my catalog. (And as far as moving my entire catalog over to KU? Very difficult to do, because my books are sold around the world by a lot of distributors.)
