Milo Manara concept art for a remake of Barbarella that never materialized, planned for the early 2000s. Drew Barrymore was interested in being the female lead.

I find the approach interesting. Barbarella was famous for the sex and the avant-garde art design, so the solution in a remake is to just amp both up to 11. The bare bosom design reminds me of Ancient Crete.

Things that got drawn in my sketchbook.

I talked to a friend yesterday about the weird feeling of making work for social media–  Looking through my instagram –so many drawings I don’t even remember doing. These days I’ve been trying to be more aware of how I spend my days with what I draw. I want most of my drawing time spent on making work for print. (comics and artbooks) but sometimes you just gotta move a pencil to move a pencil. not every word i say “will be a hip hop quotable”

I made a list awhile back of the comics that I think influenced me the most.

The ones that I notice the most art Moebius,  Fil Barlow (who did Zooniverse and designed a ton of 80′s cartoons– ALF, Captain N, Extreme ghostbusters)  

( I think about Pope, Shirow and Howarth for storytelling lots) 

Also Herge and Uderzo who did Tintin and Asterix. 

and Kenichi Sonada (Gun Smith cats, Gall force) 

and I learned a lot about color from my ex Marian Churchland (who just had a new book Hchom come out from Image)

I’ve been on a big Manara kick. His work –especially his Bergman books and the book he did with Felini feel so much bigger than comics. 

That’s kind of the artists that I go back to the most– I could go on for a long time about it.
