Brandon Graham, from Thickness #2

My favorite porn comic in the entire universe. Sorry for the shitty scans. I was racing through these in a public library and I was mildly concerned that I was going to be kicked out or at least awkwardly addressed while scanning this. I love this story so much that I own page 4 and Brandon was nice enough to personalize it with a sketch of Earthling from King City.

The composition on that page [#4] is fucking bananas. I’ll scan that up at some point. Like, at the library after-hours when they turn the lights down low and everyone comes out to scan porn comics. Yeah.

oh cool. My Dirty pair fan comic., Thanks for scanning it — I think Ryan is doing up a trade of all of the issues soon so it’ll be easier to get.

I like the Frezzato style robot on that first spread

What’s coming out this Wednesday? October 28 edition

fantomcomics:

It’s our favorite sort of week, AN ISLAND SORT OF WEEK. And some other awesome stuff too. Ya know.

image

Island magazine  #4 - Brandon Graham, Farel Dalrymple, Gael Bertrand (Image)

asjkdfn so pumped for this. Another chapter of Brandon Graham’s Multiple Warheads, plus Farel Dalrymple doing a 53-page(!) Pop Gun War story (check out a sweet preview here), and an absolutely gorrrrg new fantasy story by Spanish artist Gael Bertrand (check out a sweet preview heeeere), who also did this month’s cover.

image

From Under Mountains #2 - Marian Churchland, Sloane Leong, Claire Gibson (Image)

Most high fantasy draws on medieval European influences, so it fills us with joy to see this all-female-created series draw on fantasy influences from all over the world. If you haven’t read issue #1 yet, we’ve still got that at Fantom too! If you’re reading 8house or Island, you should be checking out From Under Mountains.

image

Junji Ito’s Cat Diary: Yon & Mu (Kodansha)

Junji Ito is best known as probably the most successful horror manga artist of all time with body horror masterpieces like Uzumaki and Gyo under his belt, so now he turns his eye to… his cats. It’s not a horror book at all. This has been making the rounds online for a couple years, so we’re ecstatic to see a translated version finally get a print release in the West. Did we mention we’re doing an extra spooky book club for this one?!

image

Henchgirl #1 - Kristen Gudsnuk (Scout Comics)

Adapted from the super fun webcomic, Henchgirl is the story of Mary Posa, a supervillain who hates her job and wishes she could just get some respect, ya know? This is a lil indie book that we’re hoping to build a nice big audience for at Fantom, because our readers have immaculate taste. Duh.

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #1 - Ryan North & Erica Henderson (Marvel)

Only their second #1 so far this year! Thanks, Marvel!

So what are you picking up this week?

ISLAND and FUM dooooodess!

The FINAL WEEK to ensure you get your copy of...

joekeatinge:

The FINAL WEEK to ensure you get your copy of RINGSIDE #1 is here!

So, here’s the preview from Walking Dead, featured online for the very first time, along with the pre-order form. The first issue is super over-sized, around the size of two comic books for the price of one!

Ringside #1 Order Code is SEP150595, In-stores on November 25th and will cost you $3.99!

People seem to already like the book!

“In this first issue, Keatinge, Barber, Gough and Maher build a world
focused on the wrestlers whose matches get cut from the broadcast, but
they follow the caravan anyway. There’s a quiet poetry to the whole
thing, like a Steinbeck novel, with frog splashes.“ - Comic Bastards Rating: 5/5

“Joe Keatinge and Nick Barber’s superbly
characterized “Ringside” #1 is about the complex world of the industry’s
players just about everywhere except inside the ropes. Keatinge’s story
introduces no less than half a dozen interconnected key figures, and
all are uniquely defined through their words, personalities and
demeanors. Barber’s rough art carries a careful, subtle consistency and
manages to give each of these characters a distinctive appearance that
makes the rush of new faces easily identifiable, and – by the end of
this first chapter – every one of these characters readily resonates
with readers.” - Comic Book Resources Rating: 4.5/5

Please signal boost this post if you’re excited for this book! The pre-ordering process for comic books is an odd one and as a retailer myself, I find it odd you need to do this, but the truth is it does help us out with orders a lot.

Hi Brandon, I just ran across the Vertigo House of Mystery story you drew, written by Matt Wagner for the 2010 Halloween Annual 2010. It's definitely you, art-wise, but obviously has quite a different feel from your self-written stuff. Any thoughts on the

Oh that.

I think that was a big part of the nail in the coffin for me ever doing corporate comics again. (one of mannny reasons really)

The whole process was really counter productive to what I think of as good comics. I never interacted with the writer and the editorial on it was so heavy handed I didn’t feel like I was able to make my own storytelling choices. While at the same time they didn’t inform me of some really basic things that I felt I needed to know. (the kids I was drawing were meant to look like old Akira babies- and do in all the other stories but mine)

Anyway, it exists and I’m ok with the art I did on it but I don’t think it’s a good comic.

How many chapters are you hoping to have for multiple warheads? Im just wondering because I was thinking how cool it would be if you turned it into this really long running thing.

The current Ghost town thing is 3ish chapters, but then I wanna do some more Nura stories. With as many Warheads pages as I’ve done I still feel like I’m figuring it all out. Someday I wanna do a more self contained tintin style Warheads 1 shot.
