mercurialblonde:Saw people doing these art progression things,...

Saw people doing these art progression things, and I think it’s always interesting to look at old work. Though for me the old work isn’t that old. So these are in order from oldest to newest. The first one was a thing I drew for Millarworld when I posted there back in the day. I think it’s from 2010? And then the page next to it is from the first like longer comic story I tried to draw. I only drew about 8 or 9 pages before I decided to work on something else. The next two are from Hecate Snake Diaries Vol. 1 which is the first comic I’ve ever sold. You can still buy it on my gumroad store: https://gumroad.com/mercurialblonde#
That’s a pretty raw collection actually. I made that stuff in the dying days of my marriage while I was going back and forth between Florida and Massachusetts. That was 2011, and I think came out in 2012. The next thing was Dysnomia, my book with Mater Suspiria Vision which I worked on 2012 to 2013 I think. It came out in 2013. Which was also when I put out Hecate Snake Diaries Vol. 2 and Bruise(not shown). Then I started working on The Leopard in 2013/2014…those are from Vol. 1 and vol. 3. Vol. 3 came out this year. Vol. 4 will be out next year. The last two are a small comic I did for Ryan Nichols kickstarter thing, and the last image is what I’ll be working on in 2017 and beyond.
While the progression is obvious I think, I think it’s interesting how locked in my sensibilities are, and it’s just been about kind of continuing to bring them into focus. The untold story of all of this is actually that I spent about 4 years before learning to draw making collage comics, so I was focusing on color, texture, and page composition. So I think that’s why that aspect has been so locked in even from the beginning. Even though I was just learning to draw, I had my aesthetic already fairly far along.

Forgotten masterpiece: “Marie Dakar,” a dream comic by Moebius, was originally published in Dark Horse Presents #63, June 1992 (it was created sometime in the late 80s). This scan, which was re-lettered by hand and includes a new color back cover/title page, is from the reprinted version which appeared in Rare Bit Fiends #7, published by Rick Veitch’s King Hell Press, January 1995.

Oh god Mr. Graham’s birthday was yesterday why did no one tell meeeeeee......
![]()
I could write an essay singing this guys praises but he doesn’t need me to tell him he kicks ass. I drew this thing today after not knowing yesterday was his birthday and hauled ass to finish it. It’s his birthday and the least I could do.
Because Mr. Graham is a guy who inspires me as an artist.
If nothing else than for this

I carry this panel with me especially during hard times.
You don’t know me from a wad of gum from under a park bench, but thanks.
Also I drew most of the cast of A.I.P.D. for this comic because of this story:
“This guy knew Jack Kirby well enough to be invited to his birthday
party and, along with an artist buddy, labored over crafting an
Orion-themed card for their all-time favorite creator. They were nervous
upon delivery – this was the guy who inspired them to do what they’ve
dedicated their lives to.
Kirby appeared immediately crestfallen.
My friend was immediately heartbroken.
After what I imagined seemed like years but truly barely lasted
moments, Kirby explained his composure: “the card is great,” Kirby said
to their relief, ”but I wish the character was one of yours.”
Kirby didn’t need them showing what he did.
He needed them to show him what they’ll do.”
Anyways I need to get some sleep, Mondays be harsh yo. So thanks and good luck Mr. Graham, from whatever crazy dreamland you manifested from.
Sooo nice and cool thanks!!
