I thought you coming to bat for Brandon Graham awhile back was great. Your words in that porn debate were well put and I think you have probably one of the more logical stances on judging porn
Thanks! It was probably more just that the topic was interesting to me than coming to bat for Brandon per se, as I’m sure he can handle himself. My relationship to porn is more or less only that I have friends that make it or draw it, but I more prefer like…erotic writing. I’m not very image based. Though I love a lot of images that are based in eroticism. But I have a similar reaction to actually watching sex as I do to like seeing gore. It’s sort of interesting to look at, and it affects me on a similar level, which is that I get anxiety moreso than turned on. I’m not exactly sure what that’s based in. But I have a list on twitter that is like Gore Twitter and some of the gore twitter people also like like violent porn gifs, and I thought about removing them from the list, because it was kind of a lot to run into, but then I figured it was kind of like gore in its way too, and it was interesting to me that it bothered me to look at, so I stick with it. It’s just like different kinds of those kind of images.
But as for the original thing, for the most part I think it’s weird to shame people for the images that turn them on. Life is much too short to try and manage that kind of thing–particularly since by trying to ban those sorts images, you just make the relationship to them more taboo and people get even more turned on by them, and the level of shame they feel afterwards is probably not that healthy for how they will interact within society. Obviously the one exception we’ve made in society is in terms of pornographic images of children. But outside of that, I don’t really see why we should be expanding the loop of what is or isn’t acceptable for porn. It’s kind of an amoral thing, that’s why it’s called porn. If it gets people off then it is working. And people get off on all kinds of things, because people are all different either because of life or because of how they are wired. So in that case, it was about how these images didn’t respect trans bodies, and had a negative effect on how society views transgender people–but that only exists because only porn for a long time would even bother to have images of transgender people. That’s not porn’s fault. That’s society, pop culture, the art world’s fault.

We know inauguration weekend will be physically and emotionally taxing on all of us. For anyone seeking shelter, solidarity, or just a drink of water, Fantom Comics will be a safe space and rest area for all during Inauguration Day on Friday and the Women’s March on Saturday (and all the other protests, we know the Women’s March is only one of many).
If you’d like to help out, any donations of water bottles or snacks are greatly appreciated!
ALSO
Donald Trump attacked Congressman John Lewis on Twitter today. For every copy of his graphic memoir March you buy at Fantom this week, we’ll donate a copy to the DC Public Library.
The besssst store!

So Rob Liefeld just sold off the film rights to the Extreme universe again. If you've signed a non-disclosure agreement regarding Fundamental Films subsidiary EuropaCorp producing an adaptation of Prophet (directed by Luc Besson), blink twice.
Heh, Rob sent me an email awhile back when the deals were starting to get talked about. The last I heard was that if Prophet got made it would be a mix of his version and the version that me and Simon and Giannis and Farel and Joseph etc made. – I dunno what that would even look like.
With my own comics I’ve always been really dismissive of film adaption. I feel like a King city or Warheads movie would turn out like Tank girl. (bad) but I like seeing how much Liefeld enjoys movies in relation to his stuff and he was always so supportive of everything me and the dudes did on Prophet– I wish him the best on whatever he wants to come out of it.
This last year in Finishing off Prophet I kept thinking about how it would read now that it’s over. It’ll be such a different experience for someone reading it in trades than it was as issues that were coming out. I movie would change that even more, but you can’t really control these things. so aight. I’m just a leaf on the wind.
