April is Poetry Month

Good morning Goodreads...

We have five days left in April and I want to share a Somonka poem for today. It's called "Hello", please like if you enjoy it.

Hello

We shared a life
a child, a bond
You were my hero, now you’re gone.
Who will be there, when I can’t go on?
I need your courage, strength, to hold on.

I took your hand, guided the way.
You made some mistakes, went astray.
I straighten the path led you along the way.
I was here for a moment,
But I begged to stay.

You were the strong one that gave me life.
Without you I wouldn’t know how to live my live.
Though our time was short, you were steadfast.
I will see you again, and our love will forever last.

Fall is fastly approaching

School is back in session and I've had an amazing summer. I've had two trips abroad, Canada and Hawaii. They were both wonderful. The last was in celebration of my 50th bday.

I have amazing things planned this year. "In the Company of Strangers", the second book of the trilogy will be released.

Additionally, I have some upcoming book festivals and giveaways. Stay tuned.

Happy Sunday!

Half a Century

I can't believe it Goodreads fans,

I've made it to 50 and I have so much more to do. I need 50 more years to meet my goals, but I must push forward and get some of these things complete by the end of the year. The sequel to "The Friends and Family Connection: Get unplugged" is in it's final stages of editing (In the Company of Strangers). However, my birthday wish is to sell 50 ebooks by midnight today. They are $3.99 for Kindle.

Or if you have bought and read the book, a book review would be great either on Amazon or Barnes and Nobles.

Help me reach my goals for my birthday; it would be the greatest gift ever. Have a blessed day.

Where my Characters come from

Many of you often wonder where authors get there bases for their characters. Mine are simple:

1. Work
2. Family
3. Strangers

Now, don't get me wrong. I don't pick from these groups at model all traits after these people. But, it's more like a starting point. Meaning...a shell for me to start my character.

Work, I go there everyday...almost. So where else would I have a cast of characters waiting to act. They don't realize that and of course, in my writing they don't look, act, or even smell the same. Hence the word, fiction.

Family

Everybody has them, relatives. The ones we love and the ones we love to hate. In any case, disown or ask why did you have to come to the family reunion. Pause...I know the answer, so I can include you in the next sequel. Thank you for the dialogue.

Strangers are why I go people watching in the mall. The best time to complete this activity is on the weekend. Close to a holiday (i.e Christmas, New Years, or Easter) during this time you'll find plenty of subjects. It's better to go with a friend so you want bring attention to yourself. Shop. Then, take a break in the food court. Everyone needs a snack. In essence, I create the alter egos for each of these categories and my imagination does the rest. Enjoy your fourth.

10 Top Reasons I love to Write

1. Able to create unique characters
I create good, bad, and ugly as far as that goes. If you haven't checked out the first - book...get a copy, the main characters will be in the sequel.

2. Excuse to travel to new places. My latest excursion was to Toronto. Ey...wonderful and beautiful city. I was there for the Nike Women's 15K. Wonderful weather, high 60's low 70s no humidity like my native country, Florida.

3. Drink more coffee. Starbucks...my drug of choice. Why? Because they introduce new flavors each season. My favorite now is the Smores Frappuccino.

4. More quiet time to imagine. At 4:30 am it's so peaceful. My only disturbances are the cats trying to get me to rub their heads or bellies.

5. Keeps me committed. There is actually a pot of gold at the end. My gold is the accomplishment of a finished piece I can call my own. But editing follows an that takes time.

6. Sequel. Must I say anymore.

7. Book Festivals. They are amazing. More like a greet and meet for writers. I've actually just received confirmation of acceptance into the Baltimore Book festival this September. Excited.

8. Excuse to interact on Social Media. I've been on FB and Myspace when that latter was popular. But now, there's more twitter, Snapshat and more.

9. Break all the rules. Since my works are fiction, I can legally break laws (at least my characters can). In the book of course, it makes writing and creating scenes that much more exciting.

10. Seeing my name in lights. Of course, its not on the big screen movie marquee, but I get excited looking at my book(s) on Amazon, Barnes and Nobles, and Xlibris websites. It's surreal ...
