My next venture

Yes that's right....I have a new venture coming up in July. I was invited to assist the Poetry coach here with the poetry club, "Canes on the Mic." This has been a very successful year for them. I you know poetry is my second love next to my fiction writing. But, the best is yet to come.

They were invited to attend - wait for it...BRAVE NEW VOICES competition with Russell Simmons on HBO. The competition will be held at Emory University in Atlanta. I'm soooo excited.

It's an honor and a privilege to assist and help them prepare for this once in a lifetime opportunity. The first day is open to the public, I will post updates here or my website on Facebook. More to follow. Happy Hump Day Eve

81 Bridge Street

Good evening Goodreads fam...

So, this weekend was one of exploration. We were add the oldest city of America....St Augustine. Well, I have been there a few times since I've moved back to Florida. However, this weekend I became aware of a wealthy neighborhood called "Lincolnville". It was a wealthy black development established after the civil war. It was also a place where Martin Luther King, Jr. marched and hid out when he was being attacked during his non-violent protest.

As we looked at the homes, I came upon the first home MLK stayed in and proceed to take pictures and afterwards I went to the door. It didn't looked occupied so I turned the knob. To my surprise, I was greeted by the current resident who was a native of St Augustine since 1941. Her name, Cora Tyson. Not only did she know M.L. King, but she told me of some stories and incidents that never made the news. Her home was the meeting of the civil right movement in St Augustine.

Additionally, she went on to tell me that St Augustine was the bloodiest area of the civil rights struggle. Check out more at www.accordfreedomtrail.org

5 Places to Escape withiout leaving town

Five places I escape to get writing ideas are listed below:

1. Running - this is my ultimate outlet; my mind is free mostly concentrating on pace and enjoying nature. I get my best ideas here viewing the world and escaping in whatever songs playing on my Ipod.

2. Bike riding - another outdoors event I love. My mind is free to wonder and enjoy nature without any intrusions. Like my Ipod.

3. Movies - an ultimate indoor escape for me; but once its over, it's over. Watching movies makes me want to go back to writing and make my novel the next book on screen.

4. Taking a nap - my second ultimate escape, but I have to be quick to write down those things I do remember. It's always important to keep a note pad next to the bed for this reason.

5. People watching at the mall - all though this one is listed last; it is my all time favorite for characters. I love going to the mall before major holidays (i.e. Christmas, New Years, Mother's Day and Easter) people never tend to disappoint and I come out fulfilled with my new descriptions and personalities for the next book.

Enough for now.

UCF Book festival

Good morning Goodreads!

The Book festival in April was amazing...I did learn a few things.

1. Always come prepared. I didn't bring a tent. It was extremely hot.(Thank goodness for my husband he got us an large umbrella

2. Need to invest in card swipers for those customers not carrying cash.

3. Don't eat ice cream on a cone, it will melt and that will be the time someone wants to talk about your book or take a picture.

4. Bring plenty of water and snacks.

Overall, it was wonderful and a great experience. I am planning on attending more in the future. I made some wonderful friends and other inspiring authors.

Happy Hump Day

I finally finished "Thirteen Moons" excellent book. Imagery was excellent and an excellent story as well. It definitely gives you a strong sense of the appreciation of nature and life through the eyes of a former Indian Chief.

Reading the book took me back in time, as if, I was there watching all the events happening as he told the story. A must read for everyone. Although, it has taken me time to read because I've been writing at the same time. It's hard for me balancing the two.

Speaking of writing...my sequel is 1/4 way through its editing phase. Much more to go, but to be released in the near future. I will definitely be doing some giveaways. Additionally, I will be posting an interview with a fan, Leslie Brown in the coming weeks. If you're interested in an interview, please inbox me.

Happy reading...

One week down....

Good morning Goodreads family,

We're already one week into the New Year and like the majority I have made resolutions...I prefer the word goals for the year. First on the agenda...release date for the novel, In the Company of Strangers. I'm planning on a sweet release date...hint February. Additionally , the sequel will be in production next month.

I've continue doing my workouts to prepare for my first half marathon of the year mid-January and first triathlon soon. Other goals, save more money, develop productive publishing company and add more book signing engagements.

I'm still looking for guests for interviews; if interested inbox me.

20 Days til Christmas

Good morning Goodreads family....

I'm a few pages away from completion. I think I had too much turkey and too many Siestas over my break, lol. But, we are coming along strong. I will be creating a personal fan page on Facebook and another website for pre-orders of the novel.

Additionally, I have been working on my poetry as well. Below, I've included a draft of a recent work. Check it out and like this page if you enjoy'd it. Thanks.

Happy Holidays.

Even the Score

I want to set the record straight.

We are not here by coincidence.

I’m here to settle the score. Overtime is not an option.

Time is not in your favor.

You think we’re here to make amends.

Some like to serve it cold; I’d prefer lukewarm.

Gandhi thought we’d be both be blind.

I can see clearly.

Sweet will be the taste on my lips.

Close your eyes and focus on a place you loved, for love has left us here.

Count to ten, then again backwards.

Crimson glitters the floor.

If you repeat this scene; we’ve evened the score.

The End Is Near

Hello fans...

I know most of you are getting ready for turkey day. So am I. Additionally, I'm almost complete with the second novel. "In the Company of Strangers." My original goal was to have it to the editor by the beginning of this month, but early December is closer to goal.

I'm 100 pages away; that may seem far way for some but it isn't being I have this week off from work. So...I'm going to make goal and expect a giveaway for the new novel once the editing is compete.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving holiday.

I will write, run, eat turkey, run, write and repeat.
