RWA and me

On Tuesday, I head out to San Antonio, Texas, for the Romance Writers of America national conference. I have never been to San Antonio, but hearit is lovely. I’ve also never been to a national writers conference before. Having been to a smaller, regional conference, I sort of know what to expect, but I anticipate it being bigger, louder, and even more overwhelming. I’m also going as a recently accepted member of PRO, the RWA designation for authors who are actively pursuing publication, or ha...

The darker side of life

I’m a generally cheerful, sunny person, but occasionally, often during the extra-bright days of summer, I hanker for some darkness. I turn to noir, films and books generally from the 1940s and 50s that have tortured heroes, femmes fatales, and rarely a happy ending in sight. Sometimes the best you can hope for in an ending is that all the characters you like aren’t dead. Here are some of my favorites:

Laura-A 1944 film directed by Otto Preminger. This is a strangely romantic film about a detec...

My summer reading list

Summer is here and I’ve got a to-read stack that’s just bursting with fun books. Actually, those “beach reads” that magazines like to tout this time of year are pretty much what I like to read all year long. Give me a good mystery, thriller, or romance, with a satisfying (if not happy) ending, and I’m a happy woman. Here are a few I’m looking forward to this summer.

Cover Reveal: Passionate History

I just got thecover for PassionateHistory, and the first word that popped into my head when I saw it was “sexy!” That’s fitting, because this is definitely the sexiest story I’ve ever written. The main characters are coming back together after one amazing one night stand five years before, and boy do sparks fly whenever they are near one another. I can’t wait to share more news about Passionate History, like when it will be available! Stay tuned!

Reading at Lady Jane’s

I had a wonderful time at Lady Jane’s Salon Orange County on Monday. I read from Love Unlocked, hopefully tantalizing the audience with a section of the book that ends at a terrible cliff-hanger. Three other fantastic authors were there: Sara Lindsey, Dee J. Adams, and Sabrina Darby. I think the most fun I had was during the Q&A portion of each author’s reading. The audience was full of unusual, insightful questions. The entire evening was recorded for podcast, so I’ll let you know when that...

Mimosa Trees and Gazebos

Reading is my favorite pastime. It’s what started me thinking I wanted to write and fueled my own imagination as to situations, places, possibilities. As a kid, I’d ride my bike to the library and come home with a basket loaded down with an assortment of fiction and nonfiction titles. Then I’d select one and climb the mimosa tree in the side...
