Little Late Bloomer

Little Late Bloomer

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:” Ecclesiastes 3:1

Silly little flower, I thought when I noticed one sole beautiful rose fully bloomed when everything else in the yard was beginning its death march to winter. It was the edge of fall and winter, but there proud as can be was the little late bloomer, not an iota of concern in her pretty little mind that she had appeared in what compared with everyone else was the wrong season...

Life in the Winepress

Life in the Winepress – Matthew 16:24

“…If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” Matthew 16:24

I know little about winepresses other than the what I recall from an “I Love Lucy” episode decades ago during which she stomped all over the grapes. I remember the vehemence needed to smash those grapes to smithereens to produce wine. I had no idea what self-denial was when I became a believer in Christ. Since becoming a follower, I have learned wh...

Do You REALLY Trust God?

Do You REALLY Trust God?

“Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.” Psalm 143:8

Am I trusting you, God? I wondered as I started out the door with one of the dogs for one of my rigorous walks to get some fresh air and exercise. Hmm. Was I trusting Him? My next thought? If I were trusting you, God, I would be in bed sleeping right now. I had to laugh, though it wasn’t so funny. I...

God the Master Builder

God the Master Builder

“Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth. See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.” Jeremiah 1:9-10

When God called Jeremiah the prophet to proclaim WORDS of dire warning to the people to repent and turn from their sin to God, He called him to “root out, and to pull dow...

Don’t Limit the Lord

Don’t Limit the Lord

“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory…” Ephesians 3:20-21

I have a friend who dreams BIG. She is lively, giggly, vivacious, passionate about Christ above all else, and a woman of ideas and dreams. But I look at her and see her limitations – how she limits God. Her dreams are BIG in the eyes of humans – and small from the standpoint of God. I point the finger at her...

Open Your Heart & Hear

Open Your Heart and Hear

“Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not; And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations? Is this house, which is called by my name, become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, even I have seen it, saith the LORD.” Jeremiah 7:9-11

Nothing like mighty strong words of warning spoken by God long ag...

Do You KNOW the Lord?

Do You KNOW the Lord?

“…the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers” John 10:3-4 “I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.”...

God’s PET Project – 1 Peter 1:7

God’s PET Project

“That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:” 1 Peter 1:7

“What lesson are you teaching me?” I said to God aloud. This was not a prayer, and my voice was not filled with love and kindness nor my heart seeking a reply. I was exasperated, discouraged, overwhelmed, you name it. Try leading a ministry as an evangelist and author...

Your To-Do List – Luke 11:28

Your To-Do List

“But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.” Luke 11:28

Whose voice are you hearing when you make your daily to-do list? Following Jesus is about seeking, hearing, and following God’s voice as He speaks to us in the Bible and to our hearts which will always be in line with His Word when it’s truly His voice. Whose voice we hear as we open wide our hearts and ears in living our daily lives is critical. We need to be discerning; our flesh...

Too Big a Burden – Psalm 55:22

Too Big a Burden

“Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.” Ps. 55:22

This is too much for me! I can’t handle it! I can’t do this! I’m going to quit! I can’t handle this burden! How often I have cried out words like these to God, and I know I’m not alone. I give up! a friend said she cried out. That’s exactly what God wants, isn’t it, that in falling under the weight of our burdens, we would give up – to Him. He doesn’t want u...
