On Letting Go
This for morning walk, I share the biggest lesson I learned during the month of October. Simply this: If you’re wrestling with a piece you’re writing, the best thing might be to let it go and let someone else read it.
Your Morning Walk with Sophfronia is a YouTube series appearing weekly.
Announcement! The live Zoom video meetings, now dubbed Soph Saturdays, will take place monthly. The next one: November 23 at 12pm ET.
Details forthcoming!
Until then, be well and keep writing!

The Persistence of Madeleine L’Engle
When a writer succeeds, especially at the level Madeleine L’Engle achieved with her novel A Wrinkle in Time, it’s easy to forget how long the road may have been for that writer to get there. On this morning’s walk, I share what I learned when I dove into L’Engle’s memoirs/journals and discovered hers was a path strewn with frustration. How she responded will inspire me forever.

The Pliability of the Writing Voice
Your voice is your voice, right? You’re born with it so you’re stuck with it. And it seems this is especially true when it comes to writing. Well, yes and no. I would say sometimes. In fact, your voice may have to change depending on what you’re writing. The question is how flexible can you be? And how do you know what new shape your voice must take?
Considering voice as I walk through a New Haven neighborhood.
We’ll continue this discussion and you can ask me questions during the live Zoom video conferencing meeting I mention in the video. Here’s the link to register: https://zoom.us/meeting/register/1a3016703c2046b7cde7dc3c8da9331e

On Not Losing Ideas
How many times have you written a magnificent thought on a napkin only to put it in the pocket of a jacket that ends up in the next day’s laundry? Or stepped out of the shower to scribble down the wonderful idea that seemed to emerge from the steaming depths, but now you can’t find where you wrote it? Ideas are fleeting, as Elizabeth Gilbert tells us in her book Big Magic. But fortunately the glorious choreographer Twyla Tharp in her book, The Creative Habit, offers a way to hold onto those precious pieces of awesomeness until we can put it all together. For this morning’s walk, let’s talk about curating ideas.

If you’re interested in attending the live October 26 Zoom meeting that I mention in the video, I’d love to see you there!

Writing What You Might Not Publish
Would you write a piece if you felt it would be too difficult to get it published? It depends on how you see yourself as a writer. For this morning’s walk, let’s talk about the importance of prioritizing what you want to write and not whether the work might be publishable.
And stay tuned for the details on the live Zoom meeting I mention in the video. I’ll post soon both here and via email. Can’t wait to hear from you!

Talk to you soon,

When You Achieve the Dream
I’m in Italy! At long last, it’s time for my Write of Your Life Writer’s Retreat. We begin on Sunday. I arrived at the Marco Polo airport in Venice on Thursday and Janet Simmonds (of Grand Tourist UK) and I are putting the finishing touches on a program that I’m thrilled to say will be an adventure of inspiration, creativity, and delicious food.
Of course I’m still doing my Morning Walk videos while I’m here. This morning, my first full morning in Veneto, I’m walking the grounds of our home base, Hotel Villa Margherita, and thinking about relishing the achievement of a dream. Do you take the time to appreciate your accomplishments? Take a walk with me and let’s talk.
And if you’re curious about ROMANTIK HOTEL VILLA MARGHERITA ****, the gorgeous Italian location in my latest video, here are loving details from Janet Simmonds with plenty of photos!
I’ll be posting more about the retreat in my social media. Follow me on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram so you don’t miss out on the fun!
Much love,
Sophfronia
