And now, our featured author for today, D.M. Guay.
D.M. Guay includes the three things important in paranormal romance, sexiness, magic, and kick ass characters.
D. M. Guay is an award winning journalist living in Ohio. She’s had experiences doing many things like being a painter, a roller derby player, and now a hobby urban farmer. She writes novels that include three things: being sexy, a kick ass, and magic. She loves pushing the boundary of real life meeting the supernatural. I had a chance to talk with her about her favorite Halloween memory, writing paranormal romances, and what she is working on right now for all of us.
1) What is your favorite Halloween memory?
Uh, what isn’t? Seriously I love Halloween. As in LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE it! It’s my absolute favorite holiday, in part because October is an absolutely epic and wonderful month in Ohio. The weather is cool and perfect, the trees turn pretty yellow, reds, and oranges, the town of Circleville hosts their annual pumpkin show, where locals compete to grow the biggest, heaviest, and ugliest pumpkins. Then, I get to dress up as the Bride of Frankenstein and hand out full-size candy bars to the kids who venture off the beaten path down our forgotten side street on trick or treat night. What’s not to love? I don’t think I’ve had one single bad Halloween in my entire life. There are no bad memories!
Although, looking back, I do often wonder about my childhood costumes. I think my mom was making some sort of political statement about my dad’s fashion choices. You see, every year I wanted more than anything to dress up in one of store-bought off-the-rack $3.99 plastic Wonder Woman costumes. They actually were kind of crappy, just a plastic sack with an outfit printed on the front paired a flimsy plastic mask with a teeny mouth slit that would cut your tongue if you dared to speak. But boy oh boy, I wanted one. So. Bad. And, I never got one. My family didn’t have a lot of money growing up, so I wore the same costume every year. Like clockwork on trick or treat night, my mom would dress me in my dad’s brown work clothes, stuff a pillow into my belt to make me look like I had a beer belly, and tell me that I was masquerading as a hobo for Halloween. A hobo. Again. In my dad’s clothes. Poor dad. Guess mom was trying to tell him something.
2) Who was your favorite romance or paranormal author and how did they influence you?
Charlaine Harris, hands down. There is something special about the way she makes pretend places like Bon Temps and Midnight, Texas, and the paranormal creatures and elements in them feel so real. Her work was a model for how I approached the fictional town of Salt Creek, Ohio, in my current series.
Harris pulls off a level of detail and description in her characters and places that not a lot of authors can. For instance, she’s written scenes where Sookie Stackhouse takes a shower and gets ready for work, and yet somehow those mundane activities aren’t boring and don’t slow the story down. I mean, how is that even possible?? I sure can’t pull that off!
When I’m stuck in one of my own stories, I read one of her novels, and instantly can get unstuck, back to the keyboard and writing again.
Of course, there are a lot of other great writers out there. I particularly like Jennifer Estep’s Bigtime romance series. Her writing is impeccable. I also really enjoyed Vicki Lewis Thompson’s Nerd in Shining Armor. I don’t know why. Maybe because I like nerds. And Hawaii. Who can say? I also just took my very first kindle out of the package and can’t wait to read all the wonderful books by put out by indie authors like myself!
3) Do you have a writing routine? Share what works for you.
Ha. Well, yes, of course I do, and I wish it were more glamorous. It’s almost too embarrassing to share because the movies make writing books and being a novelist look so romantic and artsy. Champagne, book signings, romance and adventure, anyone? Then there’s reality. If you want to be a novelist, it’s butt in seat, hands on keyboard. There is no waiting for inspiration. I have a journalism background, and have worked at big daily newspapers and for newswire services. It’s served me well, because I know I have to produce something every single day. There is no waiting for inspiration.
What does that translate into in real life? I write five or six days a week. I have two little kids. During the school year, I get them up and off, and then I sit down and write. My daily goal is 2,000 words a day. When I’m writing a first draft. I take frequent breaks for exercise and meal prep. When they are on summer vacation, I aim to write 200 words a day, but usually manage to get more. Writing every day is key, because it lets you mentally stay in the world of the story. I’m always thinking about the story, the characters, and the plot when I’m not writing, like when I’m getting groceries or taking a walk or working in the garden. Always.
That’s it. No glamorous formula. Just sitting down and putting the words together, every single day.
4) What paranormal creatures or subjects would you like to write about?
At the moment, I’m knee deep in the Guardians of Salt Creek series, which is the story of a girl’s transformation into a theikos. A theikos is an ancient race of humans who have superhuman abilities such as telekinesis, fast healing, and super speed. Really, they’re superheros without the capes, or at least they have the potential to be. I describe the series as Beautiful Creatures meets X-men. Their skills seem magical, but the source is not spells or magic, it’s DNA.
Of course, I love all sorts of supernatural and paranormal creatures. I always have, and over time, my work will definitely reflect that. Right now, I’m outlining a standalone paranormal romance starring a very hunky genie, and planning a series about a 45-year-old exotic dancer who ‘moonlights’ as the angel of death. So yeah. Stay tuned!
5) What is writing to you in one sentence?
Everything.
6) What projects are you working on right now?
Besides the genie romance and the angel of death stories mentioned above, I’m finishing the Guardians of Salt Creek Series. Jess, Resurrected, which is book two, is at the printer right now and comes out Nov. 13. Jess, Redeemed, which is book three, comes out in February 2018. Phew!
Those two books are already finished, so at this moment, I’m writing the last book in that universe: Charity, Unchained. It’s a dark historical paranormal love story about a woman who actually lived in Ohio (then the Northwest Territory) during the Revolutionary War. The legends say she haunted a colonial general and his soldiers after they killed 92 innocent Christian missionaries in the town of Gnadenhutten. I’m super excited about this for many reasons. First, just reading the old legends in books and newspapers from the 1800s is fascinating. Second, her story is so tragic and beautiful and magical that I want to bring it to life!
D.M. Guay’s featured book is Jess, Rising. It is the winner of the 2016 Romance Writers of America Joyce Henderson Contest for Young Adult Romance.
[image error]Magic. Loves. Lies. Betrayal. High school is murder.
Seventeen-year-old Jess Flowers has changed into something dark, something powerful, something more than human since moving to rural nowhere Salt Creek. She isn’t alone. It’s a town with a dangerous secret. In Salt Creek, people aren’t what they seem.
Gorgeous outcast Billy Combs is the only one willing to help her, but his troubled past may be darker than he’s let on.
A super-charged killer stalks the town, zeroing in on Jess. Can she tame the mysterious powers surging within her and identify the killer before it’s her turn to die?
Murder, lies, betrayal and supernatural powers collide in this dark love story for fans of Beautiful Creatures, X-Men, Twilight, and Vampire Diaries.

Paranormal Blog Tour 2017 Day 3
[image error]Greetings and welcome back to the Paranormal Blog Tour. Hopefully, you’ve been enjoying the author interviews and book reviews all tied together with this blog tour. Up today is the interview with the featured author S. A. Soule.
Sherry Soule lives with her family and a black rescue cat in Northern California. She writes romantic Sci-Fi and paranormal romance set in fictional worlds featuring snarky heroines and swoon-worthy alpha males. Many of her books have been on the Kindle bestseller lists and were nominated as top picks in the “Best Paranormal Romance” categories on numerous review sites.
I had a chance to talk with Sherry about some Halloween memories, her favorite paranormal characters to create, and what she is working on now.
S.A. Soule is the author of the book Immortal Eclipse.
1) What is your favorite Halloween think to do?
My favorite thing to do is just stay at home with a bowl of popcorn and watch scary movies with my kids all night, while passing out candy.
Usually, we try to find a local haunted house to walk through for the thrills and chills, but this year we’ve actually moved into a real-life haunted house. Yup, I write about the supernatural and now I’m actually living it. We’ve contacted local paranormal investigators to come by this week and see if they can help us with our ghostly resident.
2) Who is your favorite paranormal author and how did they influence you?
I don’t really have just one, but I guess it would be Joss Whedon and the late, V. C. Andrews.
Mr. Whedon is a creative genius who can combine suspense, drama, and comedy in all of his tales.
And the real Virginia Andrews was a huge inspiration to me as a teenager and young writer. I loved her style and unique storytelling abilities.
Whenever anyone asks me, Who would you like to meet dead or alive? I always say, V. C. Andrews!
Currently, Kresley Cole’s “Arcana Chronicles” is my favorite YA paranormal series.
3) Do you have a writing routine? Share what works for you.
I’m not much of a morning person, so I do most of my writing in the afternoon and evening while listening to music with binaural beats.
4) What paranormal creatures or subjects would you like to write about?
Vampires have always been a favorite of mine even though I know they’re getting done to death. I have a zombie trilogy that I want to write next year about 2 sisters trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world.
5) What is writing to you in one sentence?
Sharing awesome adventures with fellow booklovers and my brand of storytelling.
6) What projects are you working on right now?
I am totally rewriting and rebranding an older series, which was inspired by the Buffy, the Vampire Slayer series and it has been a lot of hard work, but also fun.
Sherry Soule’s featured book is Immortal Eclipse.
Inheriting a haunted house is one thing. Getting hot and bothered by its sexy caretaker is another. But Skylar Blackwell draws the line at voodoo and murder…
Skylar doesn’t believe in things that go bump in the night. But after her uncle’s body is discovered with a mosaic of eerie symbols carved into his chest, she moves to his spooky California estate to get logical answers.
Days after arriving, she’s plagued by haunting nightmares and visits by a terrifying apparition that even she can’t rationally explain away. Things get even more complicated when Skylar’s investigation leads her straight into the arms of the drop-dead gorgeous, Dorian Delacroix. With his dark good looks and brooding personality, Dorian is like a romance novel hero come to life, but he’s also harboring a dark and dangerous secret.
One that may end up costing Skylar…her very soul.

So, without further adieu, here is the interview with Nikki Landis.
Nikki Landis is an award winning author of over a dozen romance in the paranormal and fantasy genres. Her newest release, Refuge Road, is the Gold Medal winner of the 2017 IPPY award for Best Romance/Erotica. She grew up sneaking in and grabbing her mother’s romances, falling in love with the characters and stories. Now she enjoys reading romances as much as writing them. I had a chance to talk to her about writing paranormal, some Halloween memories, and what she is working on now.
Nikki Landis is the author of Refuge Road, the 2017 IPPY Award winning novel for Best Romance/Erotica.
1) What is your favorite Halloween memory?
I love to dress up. As a child I couldn’t wait to trick or treat. I can’t say I have a favorite memory as I’m obsessed about decorating and dressing up. Every year I throw a party and get as creative as I can with the food and themes.
2) Who was your favorite romance or paranormal author and how did they influence you?
I used to sneak my mother’s romance novels growing up. She read the historical romance authors whose “bodice rippers” paved the way for all romance authors today. My favorite of all time is Shanna by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss. I also enjoyed Virginia Henley, Bertrice Small, Johanna Lindsey, and others. As a teen girl I was fascinated by the romance and heroic males in these stories. They have greatly influenced my opinion on romance.
3) Do you have a writing routine?
Writing is a fine art, improved with practice. I spend time each day to write down words, even if it’s only for a few minutes. Sometimes I listen to music for inspiration with my headphones to block out the distraction of the real world. I can get lost in my characters and my stories easily.
4) What paranormal creatures or subjects would you like to write about?
I’ve written about most paranormal and supernatural creatures but I have yet to write about Greek mythology. I’d love to start a new series on Greek myths.
5) What is writing to you in one sentence?
Writing is the creative expression of words and feelings in a place where I can let my imagination run wild.
6) What projects are you working on right now?
I have quite a few projects releasing soon. I’m currently writing book #3 in my Dark trilogy about vampires and a paranormal romance with a grim reaper and a dark caster.

Now, without further adieu, here is the featured author of the day: Lorri Moulton.
I had a chance to speak with a fantastic paranormal author, Lorri Moulton. Lorri really loves the art of storytelling, dating back to the time when she shared family stories with her grandparents enjoying the beauty of telling stories of falling in love in the past. A lot of her stories deal with the simple magic of falling in love and romances that cross all lines of culture, economics, and class. Below she shares some of her Halloween memories, love of paranormal romance, and what she has coming your way next.
Lorri Moulton is the author of Moonlight, Roses & Murder-on sale this week $0.99.
1) What is your favorite Halloween memory?
When I was four years old, I wanted to dress up as a witch. As my mom finished my makeup, I looked in the mirror and realized I looked like a wicked witch. I cried and told her I wanted to be a good witch. Or maybe a fairy. She looked at my dad, shrugged her shoulders, then they both smiled. Half an hour later, I vaguely remember some running around, a lavender sheet getting cut up, some glitter, a little cardboard and I think some Christmas tree garland…and I was transformed into a fairy princess. It was almost magical the way my costume suddenly appeared from these everyday items. I remember thinking it was like Cinderella! I still love magic and fairytales to this day.
2) Who was your favorite romance or paranormal author and how did they influence you?
Mary Stewart and her work inspired me to combine romance and suspense. She managed to balance them so expertly that as a reader, you could believe these two characters were falling in love because they had to work together. They didn’t always like each other at first, but they came to appreciate each other’s abilities and eventually, fall in love. I think that’s important in a romance…that the characters’ feelings are believable. She also managed to keep the suspense building throughout the story, while weaving in some culture and history for the area. She was an amazing writer.
.
4) What paranormal creatures or subjects would you like to write about?
I like taking an accepted standard for a paranormal creature and tweaking it. Going back to the basics of the legends and then asking…if this really happened, how would someone deal with it? If we suddenly found ourselves faced with being a witch, or vampire, or werewolf, how would we live? Would we still have the same moral code? Would we try to keep our humanity? Would we be tempted or even corrupted by so much power?
5) What is writing to you in one sentence?
A chance to share my ideas with others, through characters who hopefully make the story enjoyable and believable.
6) What projects are you working on right now?
The second book in a serialized story of two cousins, who discover they have inherited a mansion from their grandmother. They soon realize she has left them a legacy of magic and responsibility…as well as a home.
I’m also doing research for the next book in the paranormal series, which will be more suspense than mystery this time, and have them traveling to Europe.
[image error]Lorri Moulton’s book Moonlight, Roses & Murder is on sale this week for $0.99.
Selina is a woman with a secret and she has been hiding it for a very long time. With her nieces, she runs Luna’s, a nightclub in downtown Seattle, catering to Steampunk and Goth clientele. When someone leaves a body behind her club, she is drawn into a web of mystery and murder. Puncture marks on the body indicate a vampire might be responsible and when more women are killed, a red rose is left by their bodies. A vampire hunter with secrets of his own comes to investigate and Selina wonders, who she can trust.

All Romance Ebooks (ARe) Update On Closure and Lori James
[image error]So, back in December last year when All Romance Ebooks (ARe) closed, I followed all the news, links and hoopla that ensued. Authors lost their money owed unless they took a pay out deal of 10 cents on the dollar that was owed. Readers had only mere days to download their titles before the website shut down. Some people had hundreds of titles. I didn’t take the deal, since I was only owed just several dollars and didn’t want to give in to the closure pressure. Some authors gathered together and filed a lawsuit in Florida. Some large Indie and small presses lost hundreds to thousands of dollars, refusing to take the deal because of principle.
But now, after several months, I’m wondering what has been happening. How is the lawsuit going in Florida? Did authors that take the 10 cents to dollar deal actually get paid? So, I set off trying to find out what happened through posting on writer boards, looking through Facebook Group posts, and the internet.
Here is a summary of what I found:
According to a Facebook group that I joined for authors burned by the owner, Lori James, of ARe, some people have been paid the small amounts they were owed. Some people didn’t get their settlement. It seems to be pretty staggered on who got paid. Some got 1044s that were from earning in different years when they should have been for 2016. There also seems to be supposed burned readers asking authors to give them free copies of the books lost. Many authors and publishers were trying to make good for where Lori James failed, but there was a discussion about how this might be turning into a scam, where people are just asking with no proof. Though, some authors/publishers are being kind and just sending the copy, some authors/publishers are still asking for a receipt first. Most retailers do ask for a receipt for a return, and that seems a legitimate for many of the authors and publishers burned to be able to still remain in business after this whole affair.
The link to the Facebook Group is here: (Keep in mind, I think it is a group you have to be invited to see posts.)
https://www.facebook.com/groups/212976702443743/
As far as the lawsuit, there is a record of a lawsuit filed in Florida by Brenda Cothern and Books, Inc. It was filed back in March. Lori James tired a motion to dismiss, and later to extend her time. Sort of looks like lawyer tactics at play. So, it’s been dragged through the courts, with the hearing being pushed back and back. But at least it has been filed and the process to go after Lori James in some form of compensation is underway. It just might take awhile.
All the legal paperwork can be looked up and downloaded as PDFs from the link below. It’s good to take a look on what you have to go through as an author when something like this happens. Glad to see someone is trying to get back what is due to them.
Below is a link to the filing of the public records on the lawsuit:
https://ccmspa.pinellascounty.org/PublicAccess/CaseDetail.aspx?CaseID=17508080
If you have trouble with the link, just search on the website for Lori James, and it should come up in the public records.
I also was wondering if Lori James is continuing with her own self-publishing and romance pen name of Samantha Sommersby. She still has her website up, and books seem to be available to buy still. But her Twitter account hasn’t had any new tweets since August 2016. Then, I found a break. Looks like after checking her titles from her website to Amazon listings, her titles are being republished on Amazon under Morpho Press, Inc. I’m finding the same titles on her website now on Amazon as of Aug. 29, 2017.
There isn’t a web presence for Morpho Press, yet. So far, it seems to be only her books, and it’s since the end of August. There is another press called Blue Morpho Press, but it doesn’t have a website either, and might just be KDP self-pub’ed author names. But, I do want to get the word out that Morpho Press is the name of her new press for her books, and for authors to be wary if there is any contact from them. NO website for it yet, but the All Romance Ebooks trail may vanish as Lori James makes a move with her books to this new press name. I will make sure to stay on top of it.
So, that is what I’ve found so far. If you had any payments returned, or have any experiences with ARe since it closed or even during the closure you’d like to share, please include it in the comments below. It will help with future updates as I keep tabs on the whole situation in the future.

Harvey Relief and Release Party Starts Tomorrow!
[image error]Tomorrow is the Hurricane Harvey Relief Party! The planning has been going on since the end of August. It’s going to be a fabulous way to welcome “Everything For Love” as a wide release, because I’ve joined up with over nine authors that have donated swag and books to auction off for relief to the victims from this hurricane. I do want to make sure that they are not forgotten with all the other disasters that are going on. All the media focus has moved away to all the other turmoil that has brewed up since then, and I want to make sure that these victims don’t get forgotten.
So, please stop by tomorrow, Sept. 20th at the Facebook event. It will be 6:00pm – 9:30pm CDT/ 4:00pm- 7:30pm PDT. Auctions will be listed through Paypal and Ebay. Donations will be going to the Red Cross, Samaritan’s Purse, and 4Paws (listed by book auction).

Read For Relief: Hurricane Harvey Indie Books for Relief Event
[image error] So, I’ve been just overwhelmed by the devastation of what I’m seeing on the news with Hurricane Harvey. Today I had an Everything For Love Wide Release Party scheduled, but my PR gal let me know a lot of readers and my followers are being affected. I already knew that many of my readers are down South. I just knew this wasn’t a time to celebrate, but help.
So, the original release party is being redesigned into a Harvey Relief Party. Authors are joining in to donate their book sales to help local charities in the Harvey relief process. I’m also gathering Indie authors from different genres to set up their books through a link to ebay or other on-line shopping websites where the sales from the book will be donated to a charity working on the Harvey Relief.
Since this is the early planning stages still, I’m asking any authors that stop by or on my blog list to help if you can. All you have to do is set up a sale link for your book or books through Ebay or another website. Send me the link, and I’ll put you on a master list that will be posted on this blog after Sept. 5.
Here is my first book posted for Read For Relief. It is a 7 day auction in which you can bid to win a signed paperback copy of Everything For Love. Free shipping! All proceeds go 100% to Red Cross efforts for Hurricane Harvey relief.
**If you are an author interested, please take a look at my Ebay ad. It is really easy to set up an auction and offer one of your books for sale. Sales are easily designated to the nonprofit of your choice, the Red Cross being one choice. Please join in with the effort!
**I’ll add other sale links when I find them.
***IF you’re interested, please post in comments.
Together, we can help through our love of reading and writing.
More info to come when known.
