Interview with Adrian Dumitru
I have a treat for you this fall. I’ve discovered an interesting essay driven book that is on our favorite subject, love. “Mr. & Mrs. Freud: In Love … But Still Playing Psychological Games” combines several points of view at looking at this subject from the contrived characters of Mr. and Mrs. Freud. Going into the deep psychological dimensions of this human emotion, this book will get you thinking about love, how it affects us and drives our very being. I had a chance to talk with the author, Adrian Dumitru, on his writing journey, his influences and where he is heading with new projects.
Who was your favorite author and how did they influence you?
Adrian Dumitru:
Zig Ziglar. I’ve read one time a book with short essays.
1 page. 1 essay. Basically, that is how I write my books now.
——
Do you have a writing routine? Share what works for you.
Adrian Dumitru:
I write everything in the morning. From 7 to 10. And I do it from my phone.
What subjects would you like to write about in future projects?
Adrian Dumitru:
Still about relationships. The nonsense that dominates the dynamic of the love stories.
What is writing to you in one sentence?
Adrian Dumitru:
Self therapy, at least for me
Book Blurb:
Join in on a serious discussion about that one topic that completes or destroys the human soul, love. Author Adrian Dumitru has collected a series of essays that present philosophical, spiritual and motivational debates on this elusive topic. Dive into the radical self-debate that Dumitru presents with interesting analysis and controversial takes on the most discussed subject in human history. Marilyn Vix Speaking on How to Self-Publish at Golden State Romance Writers May Meeting
Marilyn Vix, ie Tiffany Turner, will be speaking on May 18th at 10:30am to the GSRW membership. This will be a virtual presentation.I hope you are enjoying all this fabulous early summer weather. I was just out in the backyard, enjoying all the sunshine and mild, beautiful temperatures. The cat is out hunting lizards and something that is waggling in the ivy. Rest assured, if she catches anything, I rescue it in time to get it a safe distance from her. But all this abundance and good weather is such a nice omen after the last several years of craziness. Hopefully you’re getting back into your romance reading and writing routines. And I have something for you to possibly add to that.
I’m proud to announce I’ll be speaking at the May Meeting of GOLDEN STATE ROMANCE WRITERS on Saturday, May 11th at 10:30am to 12pm. I’ll be talking on how to get started in self-publishing. I’m excited to bring all the knowledge I’ve learned over the years. I am speaking under my other pen name, Tiffany Turner, in which I also have children’s books as an author. This will be a virtual presentation on Zoom.
Event Info Here
It’s nice to just be me, talking to other writers, about all I’ve learned over the years. I have had a lot of people ask me over the years on how to get started. So during the 2020 pandemic lock-downs, I wrote a handbook called “Get Ready to Push the Button: A Beginner’s Guide to Self-Publishing”. After the many self-publishing panels, being a member of Kboards since the pioneer days of ebooks, and having created pen names and books of different genres, I had a lot to share. I’m glad to be getting the chance to present for everyone this Saturday.
I’m also the current president of the Golden State Romance Writers organization. It has a long history as a supportive organization for romance writers. Having started as a RWA chapter (Silicon Valley RWA), it now has moved onto an independent present. GSRW supports all writers in their author journey and reaching their writing goals. I quote the groups mission statement:
“We provide excellent programming and networking opportunities for our members, and strive to weave the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility into the fabric of our organization.”
The price for the meeting is free to members and $25 for non-members.
If you’d like to sign up as a non-member to participate, please hit the button below.
Register HereIf you’d like to look into becoming a GSRW member, here is the place to check that out.
How to Join GSRWI look forward to presenting this Saturday. Thank you to GSRW for the opportunity to talk about all I’ve learned in self-publishing. I know it’s going to be a lot of fun.

Read An Ebook Week Smashwords Promo 2024
Hello and welcome! I’m so glad you stopped by. I haven’t done an update for awhile. With this being “Read An Ebook” week, I thought this would be a great time to let you all know what I’ve been up to.
First and foremost, I’ve been hunkering down for this wet winter. I moved to a new house and small town a few years ago, and I’m kept busy with gardening. Plus, with all this rain, I am making sure that my backyard drains. Funny what you have to keep track of as a home owner. I’ve always had that dream of owning my own house. It only took decades to accomplish. I’m sure it will end up in a book some how. It’s good to have dreams and to work towards them. And when you accomplish a dream, time to make up a new one. It’s a whole world of possibilities now.
Also, I have started work again on my sequel to “Never Date A Vampire”. It’s called “Never Trust A Vampire” and continues Cassandra’s story in Las Vegas. It’s shaping into a challenge since it’s set in May 2020, just as the world is opening up from lockdowns, because that is when I started writing it. Because I didn’t know how the pandemic would end, it was hard to move forward with it. But I’ve recently had a plot breakthrough to some of the writer’s block, and the story is taking off. Things happen like that in writing. You’ll get writer’s block, or a pandemic contributes to that writer’s block, and it takes awhile to get back into a project.
But I’m feeling more confident in moving towards it’s completion. I know I promised it last year, but some life events happened, namely I lost a good friend to illness. At her request to see her before she died, things had to be put on hold. Then shortly after, I got COVID-19 for the first time. By the time I recovered from that, my Ren Faire schedule started, and boom, it was Christmas.
I felt I might have owed an explanation about the delay. But you know, it’s sometimes good to hear the writing journey of other authors. It’s okay if life happens. As an Indie Author, I can pivot and adapt my publishing schedule. I guess that’s why I enjoy an Indie authors schedule too. Sometimes, life happens and you have to let other things pause while you deal with the new reality.
As a thank you for your patience, I’ve put up one of my shorter novella books for a freebie during Smashwords’ “Read An Ebook” week. I really enjoyed writing this little Steampunk erotic romance, “Love In One Act”. I’d love to share it with you. Please check it out.
Meanwhile, please make sure you’re subscribed to my blog and newsletter, and I’ll be sending out updates to when books are soon to be released. Again, I’m working towards an October release for “Never Trust A Vampire”. I’m hoping you’ll enjoy the things I get both Cassandra and Cat into, all with hot vampires and warlocks in the mix.
Plus, my co-author of the Thankful In Vegas series, Lynda Belle, has a freebie up as well for the promotion. If you like super spicy Christmas stories, this one is for you. “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” is a great little hook-up story with a sizzling ending.
Stay warm, dry and may you be immersed in a good book,
-Marilyn

Update: Writing Progress Slowed Down by COVID19 Infection
My COVID 19 Positive Test on June 30, 2023.I came down with COVID19 over this 4th of July weekend. Lucky me. No, I hadn’t had it yet, and this is my first infection with the dreaded disease. After all the hype and worry, I felt prepared with five shots, one being the last Omnicron Booster. After my positive test, I immediately got a video conference with an emergency medical professional and got Paxlovid proscribed, because I’m high risk with my heart disease (and age, but I won’t tell you how old. Let’s say over 50). Needless to say, my 4th of July was a strange kind of celebration of life. I wasn’t so worried about dying, but more about surviving without contracting long-term COVID. There might have been a prayer or two that first night.
After a few days now with the Pax prescription finished and no new symptoms (yet), I’m feeling more confident and able to do things, like write, do dishes. My symptoms of cough and dripping nose have stopped for a few days, with the very ocassional dry cough. What I had trouble with a lot is the brain fog.
After surviving my heart attack and pneumonia at the end of 2014, I’ve had some short memory problems and fatigue issues. Other words, I had to watch how many “spoons” I used in a day. If you’ve heard of the spoons metaphor, measuring your daily energies in how many spoons you have, it’s the idea of using energy sparingly so you have enough to survive your day. So, I’m familiar with that concept already.
I’m doing that now at the end of my COVID19 infection, measuring my energy in spoons. Just taking it a day at a time, listening to my body for the amount of spoons it has for the day, and then planning accordingly. I have literally cleared my calendar for July to focus on COVID recovery. I just can’t push myself now. I’ve shut down my freelance writing too, to make sure that I am healthy enough to get back to that.
I also had a dear friend pass to the other side a few weeks ago. She had requested that I see her before, and I had to drop everything and travel up to where she was hospitalized because she only had days to live. Really. I think I feel I’ve been living “Steel Magnolias” or some other kind of movie the last several weeks. Add in that I’ve been healing an ankle that I broke back at the beginning of April, I just feel the universe is throwing some pretty crazy smackdowns that I keep smacking back at.
The irony of getting COVID19 after all that traveling up and back down the Pacific Northwest coast isn’t lost on me. I literally got COVID at home, from my husband, even though we masked and kept isolated. But my viral load was less. He did get a much worse case, likely because the guy sitting next to him on a plane for six hours didn’t cover his mouth once. Coughed the entire flight. So, hopefully, all those other people exposed are sensible and test for COVID, and don’t believe it’s just a flu.
Why tell you all this? Well, dear readers and fans, it is effecting my deadlines for upcoming projects, such as the sequel to “Never Date A Vampire”. I am working on it, but it isn’t progressing as fast as I’d like. But then, health does come first or there is no writing without good health, correct? So, the sequel, which is called “Never Trust A Vampire” may not come out before Halloween 2023. This year isn’t going the way I’ve planned. But when the universe throws you one heartache and illness, you just work on focusing on healing so all the other things can come after. That’s what I’m doing now.
Not to mention the brain fog from COVID19. It really does make it hard to think and work. But with some rest and attention to myself so I can heal, I’m confident I’ll be able to get back in the chair and write some more. I am working on the first draft and plotting the course of Cassandra right now, and it is taking place during the first part of the pandemic, approximately May 2020.
I mean, with getting COVID19 now, I definitely feel safer in healing myself through the situation than I would have in the beginning of the pandemic. But having had the fever, body aches, brain fog, swollen throat and chest tightness, and dry cough, I can say now that I relate so much with everyone that has had this disease and then pulls through. My adamant hope is that I remain symptom-free and don’t get any form of LONG COVID, and I have a true sympathy to all those fighting with COVID now, 3 years after it became part of our lives.
Just remember, it’s still out there, mask up in enclosed places like airplanes, please, especially if you have a cough. It will help so many people to stop the spread and still be aware it’s out there infecting people. That cough isn’t likely the flu, unless you take a test and check it isn’t COVID19. Yes. That’s how I caught it. A home test. So, keep those COVID19 tests around the house. Please, keep a mask in your pocket and hand sanitizer, because they protect those around you when you have those non-symptoms of COVID19 and are infectious to others. Take precautions. We still have to deal with this disease. It will help other high risk folks like myself from getting COVID19.
Take care, be safe,
-Marilyn

Interview with A. Iqbal
Memorial Day weekend has been the signal to start that summer reading list. I’ve got a great recommendation for you to download and take to the beach. It’s called Love and Longing by A. Iqbal. This author has impressed me with his scope of reading background to create thriller stories into romance. This isn’t your average romance. Turning love into a prison and trying to find a way out is a great hook for me. A. Iqbal goes into detail on how his inspirational authors influence his storytelling to bring a new take on a thriller romance.
1) Who was your favourite author and how did they influence you?
A. Iqbal: When it comes to my favorite authors, Stephen King and James Patterson have had a profound influence on me. Stephen King, known as the “Master of Horror,” has captivated readers for decades with his gripping storytelling and unforgettable characters. His ability to delve into the depths of the human psyche and explore themes of fear, love, and redemption has always fascinated me. King’s works, such as “The Shining,” “It,” and “The Stand,” have not only entertained me but also inspired me to explore the complexities of the human experience in my own writing.
2) What subjects would you like to write about in future projects?
A. Iqbal: I am particularly drawn to and would love to explore in my future writing projects. One of these subjects is the captivating world of treasure and archaeological finds. The allure of hidden riches, ancient artifacts, and the mysteries that surround them has always fascinated me.
Delving into the realm of treasure hunting and archaeological discoveries would allow me to weave together elements of adventure, history, and suspense. I would relish the opportunity to craft narratives that revolve around intrepid explorers embarking on thrilling quests to uncover long-lost treasures or unravel the secrets of ancient civilizations. The research involved in these projects would be both enriching and exhilarating, as I would have the chance to delve deep into historical records, archaeological theories, and explore the intricacies of different cultures.
3) Do you have a writing routine? Share what works for you.
A. Iqbal: Stay consistent and adaptable. Life can be unpredictable, and sticking to a rigid routine may not always be feasible. While having a routine is beneficial, it’s important to remain adaptable. If unexpected events disrupt your usual writing schedule, be flexible enough to find alternative times or methods to continue your creative work.
Book Blurb For Love and Longing:
Mia needs to get her life together. She had everything right on paper.
A great job, a beautiful house, excellent friends, and a ‘loving’ fiancé. But life isn’t what it seems on the outside.
What started as a perfect romance soon became a nightmare. Now she’s stuck in a rut, with a man who isn’t right for her at all. And she’s looking for a way out.
But will she find one?
Perhaps a handsome stranger with eyes as blue as the sky is exactly what she needs to help her realize that.
Love and longing brings you a heartwarming tale of how ‘love’ can imprison you, but true love can set you free.
***This short story is an introduction to the characters that will be appearing in A. Iqbal’s next book.
Love and Longing is available on Amazon.co.uk as a Kindle Unlimited title.

New Episodes of “Love Over Kpop” releasing over the next several weeks (Kindle Vella Serial by Marilyn Vix)
Greetings everyone. I hope you are having a fantastic spring after this crazy, wet winter. The one thing about being inside so much, it’s great writing weather. It’s allowed me to get into my writing projects that are in progress, and really get back into the business of writing. So, I’m happy to say, I’ve been swinging back into high gear to get into the editing and rewriting process for my Kindle Vella Serial. It’s called “Love Over Kpop“, and I’ve been basically rewriting a finished manuscript and turning it into a serial for the Vella platform. It is a bit different than I normally write. I’ve been working on this manuscript for the last 6 years. It’s a sweeter romance than I usually do, not my fault, the characters did that. They kept closing the door on me. But I respected their wishes. That’s why I found it might work better on the Kindle Vella platform than as a regular ebook. Besides, it’s been fun to try something new out to motivate me in my writing process.
I’ve been having a fabulous time writing it, and want to invite you to join me in my Kpop world. I interned at a radio station in PR and loved the behind the scenes. I also got offered a job on a plane to work at a PR firm down in LA on my way to live in Paris. Unfortunately, I didn’t follow up since I was in my Paris-student part of life, but I’ve always wondered if I did, what would have happened. This has been kind of my answer. I’ve also been getting the Kpop obsession out of my system.
First three episodes are free. After that, slight paywall. Works like Radish and other paid story programs. The money is helping to pay for the editing of each episode (which like everything else, has gone up now.) But there are comments now that you can add to the episodes. So, I’d love to hear what you all think. You can become part of the process as I’m working through this rewrite of the finished manuscript.
Blurb:
Trish Russo moves to LA as a new assistant for an American Kpop agency. When she convinces the moody kpop star, Woo In-ho to come out of his trailer at a video shoot, she is asked by the agency to accompany him up the California coast for a special personal event. During the drive, Trish gets to know Woo In-ho. Her feelings start to become entangled with him making her jeopardize her career. Will she be able to keep her job while being involved with the Kpop star she’s assigned to oversee?
Link to READ Love Over KpopAlso, I have a new project on Wattpad that is just keeping my mind nimble and letting me have a bit of fun. Plus, I’d wanted to work on a project that I’ve had in mind for awhile, a ghost hunting/paranormal investigating novel. It’s called “Confessions of a Wannabe Ghost Hunter“. Not sure if this will turn into a romance or not, but likely, it may. I’m just getting it out of my system by doing a first draft on Wattpad, which is great for this. It motivates me to try to get an episode up each week or even biweekly. Sometimes, just having something that motivates you to sit down and write helps all your other projects. If you’d like to check it out, it is FREE on Wattpad. It hasn’t been edited. So, it is my raw, first draft writing, if you want to see what that is like.
I also have an entire full novel called “Saving My Heart” that is also on Wattpad. It’s a billionaire/work romance, which has gone a bit out of style lately. I wrote it starting in 2015, and have gone through several drafts now. It was another bit of fun and to help me get through my heart attack by doing some writing therapy, ie saving my heart. If you’d like to check them out, here is my Marilyn Vix Wattpad Account link below.
Link to Marilyn Vix’s Wattpad AccountSo, that is basically my spring project update. I hope all is well in your life with your family and friends, and that my writing lends you a time to escape maybe from all of that. Please feel free to comment and follow both my Vella serial and Wattpad account. I’d love to hear from you. I love reading comments and seeing those likes. It all helps me keep writing.
Until next time,
Marilyn

Free Books from Marilyn Vix during “Read an Ebook Week!”
For over ten years, Smashwords has been doing this promo to help promote ebooks and reading. It’s kind of weird to look back at the wild days of ebooks’ golden years, back when KDP was first starting out and free copies helped get people used to the idea of ereaders. I remember people loading up their readers with free books and then realizing, “Wait, when will I have time to read all these?” What a great problem to have.
So, I’m going to give you that problem. It’s time to load up your ereader or phone with some great books. I’m offering two books into the mix. If you love spicy paranormal romances or a short erotic steampunk tale, I’ve got the links for you. I’m offering the first novella in my Beware of Warlocks series for those of you that might have missed it, are just discovering me, or hey, maybe you’d just like a free quick read. Also, I do delve into other tangents of writing, and thought “Love in One Act” is a great way to discover some of my steampunk and historical romantic style.
Author Note: Smashwords is an official retailer of Marilyn Vix books. It is a safe download site. The links on my official website are endorsed by myself as official copies of my book and are not pirated.

2023 Starting Off with Romance Writing in the Air
Greetings everyone! I do hope where you are that the weather isn’t as crazy as it is in California. If you’ve been following along, and even if not, I moved to a small town in Northern California in the Fall of 2020. It had always been my dream to retire from teaching and move to the Napa Valley. It came true at the end of 2020, but of course, we were all in the throes of the pandemic, awaiting that much needed vaccine. I had the worst writer’s block, couldn’t write fiction, and was just trying to move, survive to 2021, and dang. It was crazy. The last two years have been similar. I’ve just tried to stay safe, vaccinated, and get to know my new local community.
The biggest thing that has been affecting me has been the writer’s block. It has been difficult to write fiction in the middle of a pandemic. Stability makes creativity. Things have not been stable in the world or even with my regular life. I did manage to channel the ability to write nonfiction, and came out with a self-publishing beginner’s guide. This last year, I managed to finish a novella series to get that fiction writing momentum going again. It has helped some, but there was a lot of personal issues last year, manly the second half of 2022, that made it difficult to write anything, children’s fiction, romance or nonfiction. I managed to get out an omnibus edition for Thankful in Vegas, and that was it. Which, of course, I’m okay with 2022 being a catch-up year from the lockdowns, dealing with COVID-19 here-to-stay, inflation, lay-offs, and just personal issues. It seemed like the whole world was out in full force after what had happened for two years, and you get a lot of people out and about all of a sudden, there will be problems.
But I’m hoping, things will be calmer in 2023. In fact, my new year’s resolution is SELF-CARE. I’m going to come first for awhile, and try to feed my soul. Luckily, writing is a part of that. Writing feeds my soul. In fact, working on me is going to help make all that writing happen. I’ve noticed the need to feed that creativity. Taking care of yourself can do that; spur my writing on. Which leads me to some fantastic announcements now:
I’ve been elected as the new president of Golden State Romance Writers.
This is a group that I’ve been a part of since 2015. I’ve learned so much about romance writing and being a professional author from this organization, more than any others I’ve been involved with over the years. There was a need for board members back in November, and I answered the call and ran for president. And I won! SO, I’m really looking forward to grabbing the reins of this great group and leading it into the future that faces many of us romance writers out there.
If you are looking for support in the next year as a romance writer or as a writer in ANY GENRE, please consider joining or even coming to a meeting or two. Everything is online! GSRW is a virtual group that was born from the pandemic, and I am so proud to continue to be a part of it.
For more information on the group, feel free to hit the button below.
Info on Golden State Romance Writers2. I’ve actually managed to break some of my writer’s block and start up again on “Never Trust A Vampire”.
So, some of you might know me the best from my Beware of Warlocks series. It has been my most successful and fun to write series to date. I feel like I’ve come home taking up the sequel now. The new series is called Beware of Vampires, and it focuses on Cat’s friend, Cassandra, at the end of the first series. I wrote the first novella in the series “Never Date A Vampire” end of 2019, and even did some promo with it around Valentine’s Day 2020.
But of course, the pandemic hit, and it made it difficult to function creatively. I did manage to try to start the sequel, following my vampires involved in the pandemic too. I wrote that start, but since half of it was real, the pandemic part, I couldn’t continue. I realized it was because I didn’t know what would happen. I didn’t know how everything would come out. I had no control of the outcome. That part of the world was real, and I wasn’t in control of it. As a writer, this is disconcerting. So, I put the manuscript away to wait for how the pandemic would play out.
Now, it’s January 2023, not May 2020. I went back and looked it over, and said like I mostly do, “Wow. This isn’t crap after all.”
I realized that it actually might work well having the vampires deal with the pandemic too. I got jazzed about the manuscript again. I started to do rewrites, which by the way, are going well. So, I’m going to try for a release in October 2023. I’m announcing it here, to give me the deadline and of course, to let you all know, first. It will be exciting to document the progress and let you know how I’m doing.
So, those are the two big announcements I’ve got for you right now. I’m feeling better about this year, cautious, but better. The self-care resolution is really going to help. I’m sticking to things that feed my soul, and that of course, feeds into the creative process of writing. So you all are going to benefit. I’m so looking forward to writing this sequel for you, and getting it out to you in October.
Until next time,
Stay safe, stay vaccinated, and try to find higher ground,
-Marilyn

“I’ll Be Home For Christmas”
Theresa had decided to stay home for Christmas.
Who needed the family stress? She was going to be the tough, singleton on her own.
Then, he called.
Nick was home for the Holidays too. Why not get together for a little Christmas cheer? Turkey and cranberry sauce always tastes better when two are sharing a meal together. Or when it’s shared on each other. Theresa gets the best gift a girl could want. A man that wants her on Christmas Eve, and she can’t get enough. Nick unwraps her slowly, giving her something Santa never could.
