Book Review: Heartaches (Bad Boy Vibes)

[image error]Still hungering for romance after Valentine’s Day? I’ve got something steamy and heart-breaking for your post-valentine fix. Here is a steamy romance called Heartaches: Bad Boy Vibes by H.M. Irwing. Two people find each other to mend the damage from their pasts.

Anna Simmons is trying to break free of her family’s prison. Her murderous half-brother Brian has sold her out. To pay for his outstanding debt, she is tricked into being a sex toy for his creditors. She has no escape. Rafe Brown bears the wounds of war after fighting in the army in Syria. His father’s abuse drove him into the army.

Together, they find each other at the right time to find a way to sort their pasts through loving each other. It’s a bad boy mix of suspense and abusive patterns that they must get out of. Can they help each other to mend and fight the mental bonds that hold them?

I enjoyed this Australian set romance. It had some spicy scenes, but also some gut-wrenching plot events that made me hope the characters could get disentangled. The tension drew me through the pages. I’d recommend this read for someone that likes a romance where the characters have to beat the odds, and find each other to save themselves.

Book Review: Land of Smiles (A Gay Romance In Thailand)

[image error]As we near the ultimate day that celebrates love this February 14th, I wanted to take a look at some books that deal with all kinds of love. I came across a book called Land of Smiles (Gay Romance in Thailand) by Manuel Mata. It tells about a gay romance between two English teachers in Thailand and the difficulties that are involved with living in a foreign country and finding love.

Reading like a dairy, we discover the attraction of a Spanish gay man making the life change of moving to Thailand. He falls for another teacher at his school, and that is when the roller coaster of ups and downs begin. Between dating on-line men to trying to figure out if his love interest, Cedric, is truly gay, we discover what it is like to live with the deep seeded love and attraction for another person. When we find out Cedric has a mysterious job and secret life he is keeping hidden, it takes all of the love between them to overcome it.

Land of Smiles is a unique insight to the various stages a person goes through while trying to find love. Being in a foreign country is an added twist, and it is interesting to see how that inspires their relationship together. I would recommend this book for someone that wants to get a taste of love in a different context and explore a new culture.

This Weekend: Local Literature Festival in Downtown San Jose

I’m proud to announce I’ll be part of the Local Literature Festival this year being held at the downtown branch of the San Jose Public Library. 25 local Silicon Valley authors will be there to talk about their books, sell you a signed copy, and talk to you about questions you may have. It’s a great opportunity to see the local talent the Silicon Valley has to offer. Plus, if you are interested in writing or self-publishing, come hear the different panels talking about genre, writing, and a presentation from Pressbooks on self-publishing. It plans to be a fantastic afternoon.

1)    What is your favorite Halloween memory?

My aunt Becky used to throw a HUGE Halloween party every year in her basement for our family. She would set up tons of games, load all the kids up goodie bags, and the highlight of the evening was trick or treating around the neighborhood with all of my cousins.

2)    Who was your favorite romance or paranormal author and how did they influence you?

That’s a hard question. I’ve read so many wonderful authors, it’s really difficult to narrow it down to just one! But if I truly had to choose, Christine Feehan really sticks out in my mind. I love her Dark series. She has the most unique take on vampires that I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading.

3)    Do you have a writing routine? Share what works for you.

I write as the inspiration strikes me. I have a real love hate relationship with my muse. Sometimes he’s a butt. He lives to smack me in the head with great ideas while I’m busy with life in general and can’t stop to jot things down.

Usually it’s really late at night or in the very early hours of the morning that I have time for my writing. I struggle with regular insomnia. Writing is calming for me, and allows me to settle my mind.

4)    What paranormal creatures or subjects would you like to write about?

I’ve yet to touch on vampires, but I truly love all paranormal creatures. I really want to write for a lot of the more obscure paranormal creatures, maybe even a few rarer cryptids too!

5)    What is writing to you in one sentence?

Therapeutic!

6)    What projects are you working on right now?

Oh, I have so many! My mind is always churning with new ideas.

I have so many unpublished stories for my Project Genesis series, with huge plans for a future permanent home for all my beloved hybrids and Marines.

I also have a second story for my Intergalactic Mates in the works. Bailar is scheduled to be hitting Amazon in January 2018!

I have been working on an all new Ethereal Brides series too. I don’t have an ETA yet, so you’ll just have to wait and see!

Book Review of Hammer by Marilyn Vix

Amanda Lutterman’s featured book is called Hammer. It is the first in a series of 19 books. This book starts out with some good, down to earth super soldier action, and builds a world of secret government programs of genetically enhanced soldiers. Starting with the mission inside a secret Chinese facility, we meet Hammer, the leader of an elite group of super soldiers. After going through an intense military operation exposing all sorts of secret experiments on mutant soldiers, Hammer and his team return to home base.

Enter sweet Leah, the new counselor to work with the captured mutant soldiers that are a mental mess from the experiments. Of course, nothing can keep Hammer and Leah apart once the sparks start to fly, and we see the tender side of a soldier as he falls in love. But of course, things can’t be happy forever when you fall in love with a soldier. Soon, secrets start to come out about the Genesis program that can unravel everything. Hammer and Leah have to rely on each other to stand strong through it all.

I did like the world building and action in this story. There were some pretty hot love scenes as well, sure to spice up any evening with a nice bottle of wine. Military and secret government projects are all surrounded with a mystery and a romance at its center. It was a good book to get lost in at bath time. And the good news, there are eighteen other books in the series.
