Genre isn't as important as telling a story about people and how their lives unfold. Sarah tends to focus on YA/NA characters but she's been known to shake it up. Most of her stories are about relationships - romantic, familial, friendly - because love and empathy are the foundation of life. It doesn't matter if the story is set in contemporary NY, historical Britain, or a fantasy world in the future - human beings are most interesting in the ways they interact with others. This is the principle behind all of Sarah's stories.
Sarah has spent most of her life in school, from her BA and MA in English and writing to teaching both at the high school and college level. She also loves studying art history and really anything because learning is fun.

Later that day, at lunch, I had just found a seat by the window when he sat across from me. I was used to sitting alone. He didn’t say anything, and he had nothing to eat. He looked up at me, though, after a few minutes, and his eyes did it again. I hated my body, hated the way I looked, hated that somehow I owed my body and my looks to everyone else. But when Jack looked at me, I wanted to let someone touch me. I wanted him to hold me. He felt like safety.It didn’t even make sense. He was just a broken kid, like me. He always wore the same threadbare hoodie. Most days, it covered his head. He was cute, but awkward. His hair was too long and usually greasy. His Chucks were a little too big, so they looked a little like clown shoes. Yet those gorgeous eyes were all I cared about. I hadn’t considered guys at all. I didn’t find them attractive, and I certainly couldn’t see the appeal of sex or of intimacy. With Jack, though, the thought of him near me didn’t make me nauseous. “Do you want my orange?” I asked him.“Are you sure?”It wasn’t a groundbreaking question. But it was how I knew that what I naturally felt for Jack was right. Because no one had ever asked me that. No one had asked if I minded, if I was sure, if something was okay. They just took things. “Yeah.”He took it and I handed him my knife. It was flimsy plastic and wouldn’t even pierce the rind, so I took the orange back and peeled it with my fingernails. Jack just watched me and, when I handed him the orange, now peeled, he smiled. His upper lip curled more than it should have and he looked silly, smiling at an orange. But he drew the same smile from me. “Thank you,” he said, and he pulled two slices free from the whole and handed them back to me. I didn’t eat them right away. I just watched him eat his part. He was messy and he ended up covering himself in the juices. He unzipped his hoodie after the orange squirted down the front. Underneath, he was wearing a washed out blue T-shirt with a train on it. He looked ten. “Nice shirt,” I teased.He looked down. “I live with my grandmother. She has no concept of clothes.”“It’s cute.”He smiled again and it was less awkward this time. “Do you live with your grandmother, too?”I was wearing a huge black sweater over baggy black pants. “No. I just… I don’t like people looking at me.”“Yeah. How I became an Author
Many of you know that I am the author of Broken Earth. So I've decided to post today about why and how I came to be an author.
When I was about 11 years old times were tough, I have 2 brothers and 2 sisters and 2 very dedicated parents who would do what they had to to get the bills paid, the work done, and keep food on the table. My father started refinishing furniture and our Sundays were spent selling antiques at the local flea market. This is where I found my favorite comic book vendor (God rest his soul). I knew my parents did not have the money to fund a comic book collection for their daughter. In a passing conversation when I went to walk around with my Dad someone who was a friend of his and ran one of the snack bars suggested I run and get coffee and food for the people that were working at the flea market. They gave me a pretty black tray a notepad and a pen and I was off.
My first day I made 5.00 in tips. When you're 11 that is a lot of money! I ran right to the comic book stand by way of the ice cream stand. With 2.50 in hand I bought 10 comic books for 25 cents a piece. They were all Tales from The Crypt, Boris Karloff, and even older books but all were the horror genre. I was hooked!
Every week I worked hard for tips so I could buy the things I wanted (mostly comic books). Then my cousin Dan introduced me to the world of Elfquest, by Wendy and Richard Pini. (Who one day I hope to meet.)
For those who don't know what Elfquest is, it's an adventure tale about the Wolfriders who are elves that have bonded with wolves and they survive in a gorgeous forest. The main characters are Cutter and Skywise who look for a new place for their family to live after their forest home is burned. The story just blooms from there. Every week I worked my butt off to get my Elfquesst Comic books, and even saved to buy the graphic novels which compiled ALL of the books. The are dog eared water stained pieces of my childhood that are falling apart with love and wear from all the reading I did of this series. I would draw the characters and write stories spinning off in the world of Two Moons, the characters became a part of my life and really opened the world of imagination to me. My dear friend Bill Link, (RIP) introduced me to the superhuman world of Superman and to the world of the Hulk who I was terrified of from a young age, so I branched out to also collect the Teen Titans, Batman, Robin, Superman, and many more. Bill and I would talk for hours by phone about the latest and greatest comic books coming out.
When my husband and I moved I had to liquidate much of my collection, but i kept the teen Titans and Elfquest comics. That shows you how long I collected for, I found a great store in our little town with awesome prices,(Thank you BILL) a hole in the wall at best but it fueled my fire.
I knew from the first moment I read a comic book that I wanted to write stories. I have hundreds of notebooks in my basement that I have kept throughout the years of fanfictions I wrote, some are even published online at fanfiction.net. Writing became my obsession, my escape, my home. And I have never looked back.

As the years passed I knew I wanted to do my own stuff, I just didn't know how. I learned quite a bit writing my first book Broken Earth. I wanted to write a world where people could escape to for just a little while. My dream came true this year with Broken Earth.
One of my oldest friends the gorgeous and talented Doreen Taylor wrote a song called Judgement Day. The day I heard that song, I had the dream that became the world of Broken Earth.

From then on, I've been supported by amazing friends like Becki Brannen, JK Accinni, Christy Sloat, Tracee Ford, Candice, Kellie, Joyce, Leah, Julie, Heather, Raebeth Buda, Jamie Gibson, Jake Bonsignore, Sarah Sprinklepants, my mom in law Judy and so many many more to keep writing and to keep creating. I'll be revealing my next cover in the next few months with the help of Sprinkles on Top Studios.

CM Wright is here Christmas Caroling with her Zombies
So tell us a little about you o zombie queen?
Well, I'm a mom of three boys (altho my oldest, Houston LeRay, died of SIDS at 25 days old) Bryson is 15 and Austin is 12. My hubby gained an incredible wife August 11, 2007. We both recently became the proud new owners of a Cafe, C-store, and Auto Repair shop in Skidmore, Mo which is called Ray's after my dad who passed away Nov 7, 2013. I have three brothers; Raymond (wife Katie and kids; Makayla and Alexander), Adam (wife Lisa and kids; Aiden, Lexus, and Lauren), and Roman (wife Candi and step-kids (kids); Justin, Geoffrey, and Aaron Alex and Allison) and a baby sister, Hope (husband Kevin and kids; Quinton and Trevor. My mom, Nancy and my other dad, Bob live close enough I can see them everyday if I we all didn't work. I'm, 37 and my birthday is September 27, 1976. (Is that enough? lol)
What can we expect to see on your house during the zombie apocalypse?
On my house? Probably layers of metal to cover the windows, and a HUGE banner on the roof saying, "See? Told ya so!"
What can we expect to see on your car during the zombie apocalypse?
On my car? "Zombie Queen, of course!" and lots of weapons
Weapon of choice?
Weapon of choice - I always prefer the guns, but some of my fans made some good points on why it's necessary to have quieter weapons. So maybe a baseball bat with spikes
Words of wisdom to survive?
Words of wisdom t survive (this is going to be deep, so pay attention!): Don't get bit, don't die.
What is next for you?
I have taken a break from the Zombie Overload Series, and have started my second zombie series, Zombie 101 series, which you can find the first chapter in Zombie Addiction - Multi-Author Short Story Collection (i believe they can also find someone with the initials L. R. in that collection too!)
What words of wisdom would you impart to aspiring authors?
If you want to write...then freaking DO IT! Publish it. No, not everyone is going to like it, that's a guarantee. But you just might be the next big name. You just might win awards and people just might be begging for more. How the hell are you going to know if you keep hiding your talent? And when you do get that bad review, and you will, read it. Look at it from a learning perspective. Maybe what they had to say had some truth in it. Your readers are also your teachers. But if they are just vicious, smile and pat yourself on the back. Obviously, you are a threat to another author. One more thing, don't let the frustration of trying to promote yourself make you give up. We've all been there, and there are a lot of us who would be more than happy to drop some names of people and group that would love to help you. Some of us also help other authors. What would you like to say to your fans?
God, what can I possibly say to my fans that I haven't already? My fans are truly the best. When my dad died, I had so many of them private message me just to see how I was doing...they still do! I've asked for donations for an auction that the proceeds will go towards the adoption of my sons by my hubby. I really didn't think anyone would care about an issue such as this, no matter how important and huge it is to my family. (We can't afford the high cost right now and have been trying for years, but something always seems to happen to prevent the adoptions.) But much to be surprise, donations have poured in. I admit, with every single one of them, I cry happy tears from feeling the love my fans and other authors have for me. It's incredible! My fans...ARE...the absolute best

Welcome RJ Parker
If you are looking for a true crime author you need look no further than today's guest. He has written several books about serial killers that are completely riveting and are not for the faint of heart. So please welcome the amazing and talented RJ Parker.
What inspired you to write your first book?
Unsolved Serial Killings was my first book and then Women Who Kill. I've always wanted to write while being an avid reader for about thirty-five years, but I don't have the imagination to create a fictional story. I've always enjoyed reading John Douglas books and thought maybe I can try to put together books that are not concentrated on one topic, or one killer, but a compilation of crime files. Plus I have considerable experience in criminal behavior from my working years in Government.
What is the hardest part of writing true crime novels?
Gathering information. I've contacted the FBI and have been given quite a bit of information, as well from their archives. Some things get blacked out however. The FBI policy on extracting information is that you have to rephrase or edit every paragraph, or, every 40 words. If the perp is captured and sentenced, than court documentation is a great source and very explicit in detail. If someone is interested in writing, those are two avenues plus, contacting the local police station that investigated the crime and if the case is closed, they will give you a summary of the crime but not crime scene pictures unfortunately.
What is the most heinous crime you've written about?
Writing about school shootings. When I was writing No Killing in the Hallways, I was an emotional wreck. Being a parent of two teenage girls in school, and to research and write about what happened at V. Tech and Columbine, was emotionally draining.
Is there one crime that sticks in your head and heart and haunts you?
My most memorable time was writing about Jeffrey Dahmer. The following is an excerpt from Case Closed: Serial Killers Captured and it broke my heart to write it, it haunts me every day:
“In the wee hours of May 27th, 1991, Konerak Sinthasomphone, fourteen, was discovered wandering naked on the street, heavily drugged and bleeding from his rectum. Two young women from the neighbourhood found the confused young boy and called 911. Dahmer chased after the boy to take him back to his apartment, but the women stopped him. When the police arrived, Dahmer told them that Sinthasomphone was his nineteen-year-old boyfriend, and they’d had an argument while drinking. The two women were not pleased and protested, but the two police officers turned the boy over to Dahmer. The police later reported a strange smell inside Dahmer's apartment, but did not investigate it. The smell was the body of Tony Hughes, Dahmer's previous victim, decomposing in the bedroom. The two policemen did not try to verify the boy’s age and also failed to run the background check that would have revealed Dahmer as a convicted child molester, registered sex offender, and still on probation. Later that night, Dahmer killed and dismembered the young lad, keeping his skull as a souvenir. Author Note: Officers Joseph P. Gabrish and John A. Balcerzak were fired after this incident but appealed and were re-instated.”
What authors or books have greatly influenced your own writing?
First and foremost, John Douglas is my favorite. Since I was a young boy, I always wanted to be an FBI Agent from watching the show at the time, The FBI starring Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. (who is 93 years young). I found out in my early teens that I couldn't be with the FBI because I was Canadian...what a disappointment, I still remember it. Getting back to John Douglas, I really enjoyed his books: Mind Hunters, Inside the Mind of BTK, Obsession, and The Cases that Haunt Us. He has other books, but those were my favourite and inspiration to write. Other great authors are: Peter Vronsky, Gary King, Brian King, Ann Rule and Jack Olsen, just to name a few.
Have you ever been asked to work on a criminal case with the Police using your knowledge?
Yes many times over a couple decades. I worked with the Fed's for many years which took me to some dark places, interact with the dregs of society, but unfortunately I'm not permitted to discuss or write about it.
What are your current writing projects?
I have so many 'iron's in the fire'... I'm publishing the first ever written Serial Killers Anthology in December, as well as, Dr. H.H. Holmes and the Whitechapel Ripper by True Crime Author, Historian and Investigator Dane Ladwig. As his agent, I'm working on a movie option with this book with the most prominent actor in Hollywood. In 2014, I am co-writing a book about 'Filicide', Parent's who killed their children. Then there's the second annual Anthology plus a biography about Motown that I may be producing. I'd still like to write volume two of Top Cases of The FBI but it keeps getting pushed to the back burner.

What inspired you to write your first book?
Unsolved Serial Killings was my first book and then Women Who Kill. I've always wanted to write while being an avid reader for about thirty-five years, but I don't have the imagination to create a fictional story. I've always enjoyed reading John Douglas books and thought maybe I can try to put together books that are not concentrated on one topic, or one killer, but a compilation of crime files. Plus I have considerable experience in criminal behavior from my working years in Government.
What is the hardest part of writing true crime novels?
Gathering information. I've contacted the FBI and have been given quite a bit of information, as well from their archives. Some things get blacked out however. The FBI policy on extracting information is that you have to rephrase or edit every paragraph, or, every 40 words. If the perp is captured and sentenced, than court documentation is a great source and very explicit in detail. If someone is interested in writing, those are two avenues plus, contacting the local police station that investigated the crime and if the case is closed, they will give you a summary of the crime but not crime scene pictures unfortunately.
What is the most heinous crime you've written about?
Writing about school shootings. When I was writing No Killing in the Hallways, I was an emotional wreck. Being a parent of two teenage girls in school, and to research and write about what happened at V. Tech and Columbine, was emotionally draining.
Is there one crime that sticks in your head and heart and haunts you?
My most memorable time was writing about Jeffrey Dahmer. The following is an excerpt from Case Closed: Serial Killers Captured and it broke my heart to write it, it haunts me every day:
“In the wee hours of May 27th, 1991, Konerak Sinthasomphone, fourteen, was discovered wandering naked on the street, heavily drugged and bleeding from his rectum. Two young women from the neighbourhood found the confused young boy and called 911. Dahmer chased after the boy to take him back to his apartment, but the women stopped him. When the police arrived, Dahmer told them that Sinthasomphone was his nineteen-year-old boyfriend, and they’d had an argument while drinking. The two women were not pleased and protested, but the two police officers turned the boy over to Dahmer. The police later reported a strange smell inside Dahmer's apartment, but did not investigate it. The smell was the body of Tony Hughes, Dahmer's previous victim, decomposing in the bedroom. The two policemen did not try to verify the boy’s age and also failed to run the background check that would have revealed Dahmer as a convicted child molester, registered sex offender, and still on probation. Later that night, Dahmer killed and dismembered the young lad, keeping his skull as a souvenir. Author Note: Officers Joseph P. Gabrish and John A. Balcerzak were fired after this incident but appealed and were re-instated.”
What authors or books have greatly influenced your own writing?
First and foremost, John Douglas is my favorite. Since I was a young boy, I always wanted to be an FBI Agent from watching the show at the time, The FBI starring Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. (who is 93 years young). I found out in my early teens that I couldn't be with the FBI because I was Canadian...what a disappointment, I still remember it. Getting back to John Douglas, I really enjoyed his books: Mind Hunters, Inside the Mind of BTK, Obsession, and The Cases that Haunt Us. He has other books, but those were my favourite and inspiration to write. Other great authors are: Peter Vronsky, Gary King, Brian King, Ann Rule and Jack Olsen, just to name a few.
Have you ever been asked to work on a criminal case with the Police using your knowledge?
Yes many times over a couple decades. I worked with the Fed's for many years which took me to some dark places, interact with the dregs of society, but unfortunately I'm not permitted to discuss or write about it.
What are your current writing projects?
I have so many 'iron's in the fire'... I'm publishing the first ever written Serial Killers Anthology in December, as well as, Dr. H.H. Holmes and the Whitechapel Ripper by True Crime Author, Historian and Investigator Dane Ladwig. As his agent, I'm working on a movie option with this book with the most prominent actor in Hollywood. In 2014, I am co-writing a book about 'Filicide', Parent's who killed their children. Then there's the second annual Anthology plus a biography about Motown that I may be producing. I'd still like to write volume two of Top Cases of The FBI but it keeps getting pushed to the back burner.
