Guarded is one of those books that will have you wanting more at the end. I read it in two hours while I was at work and lord help me because I wanted more of Jackson and Vanessa AKA Vee. This story was so cute and so real for some girls that every girl who has had a broken heart should read this because there is light at the end of the tunnel. You can have a happily ever after you just have to put your guard down.

Vee is married to the scum of the earth as far as I am concerned. I dated a guy like him and all they do is verbally abuse you and make you feel like shit and treat you like shit but you have to bounce back and move on and that is what Vee did. She left his cheating ass and struggled to make a new life. What she did leaving her husband took a lot of courage and strength and she has it in spades. She took her life back but in the process she did what we all do when we are hurt or crushed by someone we love is she put up her walls around her heart and she did not let them down for anyone until that one day in the park while running someone ran into her and her life changed.

Jackson is an NBA Basketball player and he has just moved from New York to play for the Thunders. He is running when he is not really paying attention and runs into Vee and his world is turned upside down by her. He is instantly attracted to her and wants to become friends. As they become friends Jackson is determined to make her his and show her that not all men are lying cheating pigs. With time and a lot of patience Jackson slowly breaks through Vee's walls.

But will that be enough for Vee to let go and let love in again? Well you have to read it to find out! Thank you J.D. for this great Novella! Team Jackson all the way :)

Guarded is a short and sweet Novella about a couple that literally run into love. I will warn that running is what this book does for a Novella. JD really puts a lot into this story and at times you are left saying OH MY that was quick but in all this was the perfect afternoon story that left me feeling all the right emotions.

“It was wrong to pre-judge someone, but it was better to guard my heart than to get hurt again. Guard my heart?”

Vanessa, Vanessa she is the definition of the title of this book. She is a guarded individual but she also displays a lot of strength, she is getting a divorce from a cheating husband who is a complete ass. But we watch as she is trying to get on her own two feet, and that’s when she literally is knocked off them by Mr. Pro basketball player, Jackson Berrios. But Vanessa is so guarded she doesn’t see what she has to offer she only see’s what she has heard but the heart is a beautiful thing and I loved falling with Vanessa.

Can I just tell you the moment I met Jackson I fell for this man. He was perfect and he was everything Vanessa needed but didn’t realize. He was so sexy, and so determined to win her over. He was also determined to shatter the guards she had up around her heart. You could feel that she was everything he wanted. It was also safe to say I was in love with him, head over heels in love.

“I lied. I’m not falling in love with you. I’m already in love with you.”

This story was fun, the characters were easy to connect to and I find in a lot of Novellas that is the hardest part for the reader. I will say I wish there was more but that is also the signs that JD accomplished what she was going for. This book leaves you with a sigh and it definitely made me a basketball fan.

“Thank God. So does that mean that I can call you my girlfriend?”

Why yes, Jackson I am your girlfriend!! Oh this is also my official statement claiming Jackson as my new Book Boyfriend!

Doing this for Indie Brits:

Vanessa is on the verge of getting a divorce from her cheating & verbally abusive husband Shane. For four years she was made to believe by her husband that she was worthless and not beautiful or sexy, just plain. Vanessa had been separated from Shane for 9 months when she was knocked down by Jackson. Literally, she was running and he wasn't paying attention and ended up running into her knocking her on her face. From the moment they locked eyes you could just tell there was going to be something special between them. However, Vanessa is very guarded and not wanting to have anything to do with him. Like Jackson she is drawn to him & wondering what in the world he sees in her (remember she has low self-esteem due to her douche of a husband) so she questions literally everything! Even though Jackson makes her feel things she's never felt before with Shane.

Vanessa: She's guarded that's for sure. She's a fifth grade teacher, driving a beat up focus, and living in a pretty questionable apartment complex. Although this is all she can afford since separating from Shane. I have to hand it to her it takes a lot of strength to leave a man that's abusive, verbally or physically. She left his cheating ass and I couldn't be more proud!

Jackson: Boy oh Boy. This man can be my friend any day! ;) Jackson just moved to Oklahoma from New York to play basketball. You see he's an NBA player. He's sweet, honest, understanding, and just plain GORGEOUS! He's a great book boyfriend to swoon over. I love me some Jackson!

Amanda: This lovely lady is Vanessa's best friend. She's been there for Vanessa through everything and just wants to see her happy. After Vanessa met Jackson Amanda called to invite her out to dinner...and from the moment sensed a change in her best friend. It's crazy how best friends can do that. She's everything I would want in a friend.

J.D. Rivera did a great job writing. I loved how I got to read from both their points of view. For a short read it packs quite the punch. It's fast paced which I love. You get enough background on the characters so your not left questioning anything. I know Vanessa had been through a lot, but I did get pretty frustrated with her jumping to conclusions. She should give people the benefit of the doubt. Does she give Jackson a chance? Does Shane weasel his way back in? That's something you'll have to find out for yourself. It's a great read.

With all that being said I rate this a 4 out of 5 stars.

I just finished Guarded and I must say Wow! For such a short story this packed a powerful punch for me. I loved both point of views. It's always good to see both sides and see where they are coming from.

Vanessa is in the middle of a divorce from cheating a-hole Shane after four years of hell. Grant it he never physically beat her but still was mentally abusive, saying she is worth nothing, a worthless wife, nobody would want her, to say the least.

Jackson is a professional basketball player that has moved to OK for his new team and literally runs into Vanessa while they both are running at the lake. Obviously not meaning to do that Jackson wants to take her to lunch as a way to say sorry and Vanessa being instantly guarded isn't sure about it however decides to let him. They both are instantly drawn to each other but for Vanessa still "technically" being married doesn't want to be like her cheating soon to be ex husband just wants to be friends with him. Jackson is understanding because he is at a point in his life where he is looking to settle down and can see something in her and agrees. One thing. She doesn't know he is a professional basketball player. How will she react when she finds out. Especially when there are misconceived assumptions about ball players. What will Jackson say about her still being married. Will he stuck around. You will have to read and see!

I really enjoyed this. I loved the story line. Who doesn't love when a girl is insecure and a man comes along and bashes those away! I understand where she is coming from. It is hard to trust a man after getting shit on. REPEATEDLY

Man, Jackson. So Damn Sexy. Totally in love with him. My new book boyfriend. He totally stalks her but in a good way!
"I lied, I'm not falling in love with you. I'm already in love with you".

Who wouldn't want to hear that!

Also Amanda is Vanessa's best friend. She has been through thick and thin with her. Trust me u will love het too. She is also very funny. You will crack up with the things that she says. Her one liners are awesome. Who wouldn't want a friend like that.

The only thing I wanted more of was sex. It's there but not enough. To me it didn't take away from the story. Its good the way it was but damn it would have been smokin!!

If you are looking for a good read with good characters. This one is it for u. Do not pass this up!

Story for me was a 5
Sex for me was a 4
Bringing story as a whole to 4.5

Guarded is the perfect title for J.D. Rivera’s new romance novella, because it depicts how sometimes we find ourselves shielding our HEART from harm to protect the only true source were we store our deepest feelings of LOVE. Though never under estimated the heart, because the heart can give STRENGTH behind the walls we build to find our COURAGE as did Vanessa Smith discovered.

Vanessa has been married the past four years of her life to Shane and is in the process of a difficult divorce, because Shane was cheater during her entire marriage and he verbally demeaned her all the time. Even though Shane has told Vanessa she was a plain woman, Vanessa is gorgeous with long brown hair, beautiful brown eyes, and a killer body. We first encounter Valerie while she is running by the lake where the geese and sailboats float on the water, because Vanessa finds solitude while running when life is a little too much to handle. While she was watching the geese and sailboats float with ease, she collides into another runner – Jackson Berrios.

Jackson is handsome, dark hair, dark eyes, tanned, bare, with a sculpted chest and has moved from New York to Oklahoma, feeling guilty about the collision he asks Vanessa to lunch. While at lunch they both seem to feel instantly drawn to each other, but Vanessa is shocked when she discovers he is a professional athlete. However, Jackson is ultimately shocked when he discovers she is married. A month passes from the last time they had lunch, Jackson discovers he needs to be in her life so he seeks to find her because he cannot stop thinking about her.

Will Vanessa allow herself to trust again and allow herself to be love by another, so she too can love again? Alternatively, can Jackson replace the wall around her heart with his love and defend her heart with the love he has for Vanessa by protecting her heart from any further damage her past has caused? Guarded is a beautiful story about a young woman finding the courage to move on while learning to love and trust others. While reading Guarded, the novella will capture your attention immediately and you will be unable to put the book down.

I rate J.D. Rivera’s novel, Guarded – 4.5 AMAZING STARS!

This was a sweet story of learning to trust again after your heart has been broken. Vanessa's ex husband had really done major damage to this school teachers heart and ego. Telling her for years she was boring and didn't deserve to be loved, that she should expect to be cheated on because she was a horrible wife, she finally had accepted his words as truth.

While waiting for her divorce to be finalized she is run over, I really mean run over, while out jogging by the super star basketball player Jackson. He fell in love with her at the first look but she remained guarded against his concern and interest. She believed the words of her ex husband and we all know basketball players are known for their cheating ways. Slowly but surely Jackson was able to help Vanessa with the idea of risking her heart to him.

After a few missteps and assumptions and wanting to run from this relationship she finally let her guard down and allowed herself to be loved by Jackson. He had hoped that this was the first step to her believing it was okay to love herself.

This book was a quick read, easy flowing and very sweet. There wasn't a lot of intensity to it, I would say it was a perfect read if you are wanting a sweet romantic book. The characters were developed well for a novella, you knew enough about them to care what happens, but not as much as if you were to be reading a novel where time was on the side of character development. The story, although romantic, didn't fall into the every day mold of a quick romance novella, there was a new and refreshing angle to this story. I would recommend it to others as I think the author did a great job in what she set out to do. Give us two people who fought through old baggage to start fresh again.

Vanessa Smith has had bad luck with men. Thankfully her 4-year-marriage to Shane, the verbally abusive a-hole cheater, is almost over…well, it’s been over for quite some time, but at least now the divorce is almost finalized. She decides she doesn’t need a man in her life, besides, who would want her? She looks plain, she’s boring, and she’s a worthless wife, at least that’s what she’s been told for the last 4 years.

Jackson Berrios is new in town, he is the new star player for the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team, and he is H-O-T! He has a reputation of being a ladies man, but his life is changed the day he literally runs into Vanessa. He is immediately taken in by how breathtakingly beautiful she is and convinces her to let him take her to lunch to make up for knocking her down. At first Vanessa doesn’t recognize Jackson, but after seeing him on TV during their lunch, she is surprised. How can someone as beautiful and famous as him be interested in plain ol’ her? Surely he’s just being friendly.

Can Vanessa let her guard down and trust Jackson? Can Jackson convince Vanessa that she really is beautiful and that he is not the person the gossip magazines make him out to be? Or can one misunderstanding ruin everything?

Guarded is short and sweet, exactly what you expect from a novella, but it is jam packed with feels! I felt like some situations were sort of rushed through, but despite being a novella, the characters were well-developed and you can’t help but fall in love with them. I would love to see more of Vanessa and Jackson and where their relationship takes them.

Loved this book. although, with the title, I thought that well, either the main character, Vanessa, would be, to be honest, more guarded after what she went through. Or that something dangerous was going to happen for to need to be guarded, I'm not sure. That being said, I did enjoy the book.

Poor Vanessa was told she was worthless for the past 4 years, and constantly cheated on by her shitty ex-husband. She is finally free of him when the divorce is finalized. In the mean time, she has met Jackson, whom she at first doesn't realize, is the new star player for the local basketball team.

Their first meeting Jackson literally knocks her off her feet. Not realizing that he is actually interested in her, Vanessa is skeptical of the attention he shows her.

For this being a novella, it had a whole lot packed into it! Sex, love/romance, jealousy, hurt, etc. Had it all.

This is a really fast paced story to me, I mean, only a month and they are both infatuated with each other? That being said, Vanessa puts the brakes on when she informs Jackson that she is still "technically" married? What does Jackson do, will he stay and get to know her until her divorce final?

Will Vanessa see that she finally has worth despite her a-hole ex putting her down? Will she open up let someone in?

The whole time Vanessa's best friend, Amanda is right by her side, which I love, not just cause of the name, but cause something like this, a girl's got to have her bestie!

Loved the story, and the plot, though a bit fast. To be honest, I don't usually read novellas, but I enjoyed this one and glad I did.

***I was given an ARC of this book by the author for an honest review!***

Vanessa Smith has had a rough four years of marriage. Her soon to be ex-husband is scum and she can't wait to get it over with. He's done nothing but cheat on her and she's ready to make her divorce official! She doesn't think she can ever trust another man after what he's put her through. But one day as she's running by the lake she gets knocked down. And by the most gorgeous hunk of man on the face of the planet, Jackson Berrios. He's a famous basketball player, but she doesn't realize that at first! He apologizes profusely and ends up spending the day with her. She can't fathom why he would want to spend time with her once she realizes who he is. Her soon to be ex-husband has told her several times how plain she is and how no man would ever want her. That she was lucky he had even married her.

A month of thinking about him passes and he shows up at the school where she works. She can't believe her eyes. Their relationship seems to be taking off, but her divorce still isn't finalized and she's still uneasy of trusting another man. They go back and forth with this and she wonders if it's wrong to fall in love so soon after having her heart broken and trampled on for four years. Can she really trust him and finally have a happy ever after? I give it 4.5 stars!

Guarded was a sweet yet sexy as sin read. I loved the story of Vanessa and Jackson. I finished this book in about an hour. The story starts out with Vanessa going through a nasty divorce. Her soon to be ex is an ASSHOLE that belittled and degraded her every chance he got. He just verbally abused her their whole marriage. He also cheated on her. Because of this her self esteem is really low. She believes the things her husband told her were true. That she was ugly and no man could love or want her. She believes she is plain Jane nothing special.

Then while running (BAM) she is knocked over by this sexy shirtless man. Jackson Berrios. I instantly feel in love with him too. Jackson is a famous basketball player new to the city and his team. There is an instant chemistry between Vanessa and Jackson. Their friendship grows into more over time. Jackson keeps wanting to show that she can trust him. Wants to show Vanessa he is not like the other athletes that cheat. However, Vanessa's insecurities are ever present. I don't want to give away the rest of the book.

I was instantly pulled into this story of Vanessa and Jackson, and LOVED every minute of it. I stayed interested in their relationship and what could happen. I also LOVED Amanda she was such an awesome best friend to Vanessa. I gave this book 4 1/2 stars I wish it was longer. I wanted more of this story.

Vanessa Smith is a fifth grade school teacher. Her marriage has been rough but its soon to be behind her because of her impending divorce. Vanessa has a lot of issues especially with trust and who can blame her? Her ex-husband cheated on her all the time. So when she meets Jackson Berrios she lumps him in the same category as her ex-husband. Vanessa comes across as someone who self-esteem has been battered.

Jackson Berrios is a famous basketball player who is new to town. He literally ran her off the road. I think he was able to get to know her better because she had no idea who he was at first. It gave him time to see who she was as a person before his wealth became an issue. While I don’t condone what he did to Vanessa’s car I loved it regardless. It really showed how much he cared about her.

The chemistry between Vanessa and Jackson is blistering hot. I loved that Vanessa had a set of beliefs and values that she was living by regardless that the divorce is imminent. I think Jackson respected her more for it in the end.

I loved the title of this book it gave a big clue to the story inside. While I have read J. D. Rivera before I will be keeping an eye out for her in the future. I wonder where these two will be in a few years. I would love for a follow up novel set a few years down the road. Overall, this was a fun and charming story.

So the saying goes, you can’t judge a book by its cover. This is totally true with this book and series. When I first saw it, I thought it looked like something that was going to be about high school students and something that was like a teenager story. The title looked like something related to high school, something Varsity. That is not what I got, thank goodness! We’ll say something like “High School Musical with a Twist” type of look. I really liked this novella and gave it 4 stars.

Vanessa has had to deal with a lying, cheating husband who made her think she didn’t deserve anyone’s attention, or think she was pretty. Her whole world is changed when she gets knocked down by Jackson Berrios, NBA superstar for OKC Thunder.

Jackson was working out when he ran into Vanessa. He was so excited to see that he wasn’t recognized immediately. But can Jackson prove that he’s not the typical NBA cheating superstar who likes to party and have one night stands.

The ending of this book really did my heart justice. Vanessa is so guarded and stubborn that she finally decides to let her guard down, but she doesn’t let her defenses down. Check out book two, Defensive for the continuation of the Vanessa and Jackson’s story.

okay I have to say that I had a lot of mix feeling and motions about this book. I find the book started at a fast past. Then once you got in to the book started to slow down. I think that is when V meets Jackson. Those two where started to see each other as she is close to her divorce to her husband Shane who had cheated on her. I think this is what made her not trust anyone who was a male. But anyway she rushed in to it at the being to get her self hurt. Well that was her fault for running out and not talk with him to actually see if he was cheating on her. Well after she gt drunk and ran into the at a club he was able to explain to her best friend who allowed him to talk with her. Well then from here is where thing picked up with them until they started as friends until she got divorced. Then he tried to show her how he feels about her. Well when he tells her he loves her the story ends. I think that where the store should still have continued. Just makes you wonder what will happen between those to.

Vanessa has been miserable and sad these past four years of her marriage. Having been married to a jerk who does nothing but criticize her her life is kind of lifeless. Until "He" comes into it. After Vanessa & Jackson collide .... literally..none of them know that they just found someone who they didn't knew they needed. Its after she meets Jackson that things start looking up for her.

Guarded being novella length I can't say much without giving away the story. But I will say that the chemistry between Jackson & Vanessa was electrifying. I enjoyed every single moment of Guarded. Despite of being short in length it still managed to feel like a complete novel. The characters had a certain depth to them that made me feel for them. It doesn't happen everyday that I feel what the characters do but when that does happen I enjoy the book even more. Guarded sure was one of them.

Overall I found this to be a really great book filled with emotions and most of all I loved the message it gave out. Never give up hope! Highly recommended.

Guarded is a story of keeping your wall up, but what happens when the perfect man comes along?

This novella was fabulous! I wanted a light hearted fun read, but this was that and more! I laughed, smiled like a giddy school girl, started thinking she better not, Shane better not ruin her fairy tale, then I thought oh wait... Jackson you better not ruin it either! In this story, I didn't even get mad a the female character which typically happens because y'all know girls make assumptions... At least Vanessa isn't too crazy! ;)

J.D. It's great and I wanted more! I'm all about finding your prince, making memories, and letting your guard down!..It has me wanting to know more about the Thunder!

I absolutely LOVED Guarded. The connection between Vanessa and Jackson is just amazing! Even though Jackson is famous and rich, he doesn't flaunt it around. He is just a normal guy and wants to be treated that way.

Vanessa is going through a nasty divorce with her soon to be ex, Shane. He is mentally and verbally abusive. He has told Vanessa he is a horrible wife, she is ugly and no good for so long she believes it. So when Jackson literally runs into to her and knocks her off her feet, she thinks its all in the name of sex... Oh she is so wrong!

5 stars out of 5. This is a quick little read. It's a great story with a few bumps and turns. I love Vanessa's bestie Amanda, and Jackson's friend Ray, well, he can get lost!

Guarded is a story I think that quite a few women can relate to. Vanessa has been cheated on by her husband and made to feel as if she is worthless and unattractive so when a man shows interest in her, of course she doubts his intentions. Rivera writes a beautiful love story and the only reason I am not rating Guarded a 5 is because I wanted this to be more than a novella!!!

RATING: 4.5

I really liked Guarded. It's a novella, and a short, sweet story.

I could tell J.D Rivera's story telling seemed to be improved from her debut novel. This story had a little bit more depth to each of the characters, and seemed to flow more smoothly in terms of structure.

It's a great story for a quick, fun read.

This was a very cute, short and fun read. It does pack a lot into a novella. Keeping that in mind, it does go from 0-60 mph in a couple of pages... But it does include some real life experiences and lessons to be learned... Not everything that has spots is automatically a leopard... So Vanessa learned this thankfully rather quickly and was able to fall in live with Jackson... Really sweet..

This was a cute love story. I thought it was so cute how Jackson met Vanessa. He did some really special things for her and to prove how much he cared about her. I was so happy when the ex-husband got a chance to see who she upgraded too. I found myself screaming for more. Anyway great quick read.

This was a really great, quick novella, that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Our leading lady Vanessa is in the process of a difficult divorce from her husband Shane. They have been married for 4 years and he has done nothing but cheat on her and put her down their entire marriage. Vanessa has put up a lot of walls and guarded her heart... That is until she is out running one day and literally crashes head over heels and falling on her face with Jackson Berrios.

Jackson is a famous basketball player who has just moved to town to joined their team. He's gorgeous, wealthy and famous and is ready to find a meaningful relationship after having so many woman only wanting him because of his status. When he collides with Vanessa while running, he knows immediately that there is something different about, especially the fact that she doesn't recognise who he is.

After spending the day together and having an instant attraction and connection to each other, Vanessa realises who he is but it doesn't make a difference to her and when she tells Jackson she about her situation and how she won't be like her husband he is quite shocked.

When a month passes without hearing from her, Jackson takes matters into his own hands and seeks Vanessa out by going to the school where she teaches under the pre-tense of volunteering to send time with the kids. From here we watch as their friendship blossom into something more and it's lovely to watch how Vanessa starts to come out of herself again. Jackson treats her as the beautiful woman she is and she starts to regain some of her confidence back.

I really enjoyed these characters and thought that the story line flowed smoothly. It was a quick read and I definitely can't wait to see where their relationship is headed I the full length novel 'Defensive'.

Title: Guarded

Series: Guarded Heart Book .5 (novella)

Author: J.D Rivera

Rating: A

Review: Guarded is a very cute, sweet, feel-good romance that I enjoyed very much. I would have enjoyed it even more had it been a longer length book rather than a novella. Usually I don't enjoy them because I feel the length doesn't usually give you enough time to get the full story behind the plot or the characters - and even less so when they are used as a prelude to a full length novel, with really dramatic cliff hangers. That is not the case with this one - while this one is novella length, it is a complete story, and doesn't leave you frustrated.

I loved the characters! Vanessa is a gorgeous girl that is not really fully aware of how beautiful she is thanks to her lovely ex-husband. While it sucks that we went through all this, it also makes her more relatable as a character. I loved her honesty and frankness, and that is what really made me love her! Jackson is amazing in his own way - he's your typical playboy, but with a good heart. And he certainly has his work cut out for him when it comes to wooing Vanessa!

While some readers might think it is too much of a 'typical' storyline, that it's a shade to predictable, that it has nothing that really stands out, I have to say that I can see where they may feel that way. However, that shouldn't take anything away from this story. There is nothing wrong with a good, solid romance - and the characters alone are enough to really a joy to read, and the way the writer tells it gives a nice interesting take on it. If you're a fan of a good romance, and in the mood for something that's quick to read, you really can't go wrong with this one.

Guarded

This story was gifted to me in exchange for an honest review.
Vanessa is trying to get on with her life. She is in the process of divorcing her husband Shane. He has been verbally abusive to her as well as cheating on her numerous times. She has had enough and is moving on.
Vanessa is out one day running when she literally bumps into a handsome stranger. There is some heat between these two and the sparks are flying. Jackson Berrion is a NBA lead scorer and Vanessa does not recognize him. He finds that so refreshing. He is nice and courteous to her and she finds that refreshing. They have lunch together and explore the waterfront.
They leave without exchanging numbers because Vanessa has been hurt before, she believes herself ugly and unworthy of love. Jackson however recognizes the beauty inside her and makes a surprise appearance at the school where she teaches.
They have alot of things in common and slowly they start to spend time together. Just as friends. She will not kiss him as her divorce is not yet final. It does her battered self esteem good to have a friend. He is so attracted to her, he will take whatever she is offering.
She drives a run down car, so he buys himself an "extra" car in case she ever needs it and then pays some thugs to tamper with hers.
This is the first story in their journey. It starts out all sweet and lovely but alas, there is going to be a few bumps in the road. Her bestest friend Amanda plays a great secondary character, and his ex Cynthia shows up to stir up trouble. I am looking forward to reading Defensive and continuing with the journey of Vanessa and Jackson. I would rate this story a 4/5.

Guarded is a novella that introduces us to Vanessa and Jackson. She is still healing from her ex’s harsh words and “extra-curricular activities.” Jackson is the newest player for the basketball team. He’s famous, gorgeous and has a reputation given to him by the tabloids.

While running one day, Jackson literally runs into Vanessa. It’s when she rolls over to let him know that she’s alright that she takes all thoughts out of his head. He’s really not ready for her to leave and he asks her to lunch. It’s not until then does she figure out who he is. But he wants to see her again. He likes her immediately; he knows she isn’t there just to have her picture taken. She didn’t even know who he was. Vanessa puts her guards up as soon as she finds out what he does for a living. Aren’t sports stars known for their exploits? She’s just getting away from that mess. Why would she want to start something else with someone she knows will more than likely be untrustworthy?

All Jackson asks for is a chance. Since his words might not be enough for her, he wants to prove that they will work, as a couple. But it’s not always fun and games. Can he really be faithful to Vanessa when there are plenty of available, gorgeous women out there? Thanks to her douche of an ex, her self-esteem is non-existent.

Guarded was an enjoyable read. Quick and easy but, I felt it lacked a little…something. Their story is just getting started and will continue in Defensive. Good thing is, I’m already invested in Jackson and Vanessa and will read their next book.
