These are a few of my favorite things …
I’ve picked up a few things over the last little while that I really enjoy. One of them is an adult coloring book called Sugar Skulls – Day of the Dead: A Stress Management Coloring Book For Adults. I love anything and everything sugar skulls, so this was right up my alley. I started coloring one of the pages right away, and did a couple more over a few days. After staring at a white screen with little black letters on it all day, it’s nice to see some color! You can see the ones I’ve completed below.
At the same time that I ordered the book, I ordered these, 168 Colored Pencils Art Drawing Colored Pencils Set for Adult Coloring Books, Sketching, Painting. I’d ordered a set for a friend and decided to get myself some. I’m really glad I did! They’re great pencils, very soft and rich, and having 168 different colors (no repeats!) has made it easy to do some shading. Doesn’t matter what color I want – I can find it in that set!
To make things even sweeter, my daughter got me a Day of the Dead shower curtain. I can’t find it online, but this one is cute and it reminds me a lot of mine. I might actually have to get this one – so many colors!
And, of course, the kid in me had to have this, the Gemmy Animated Halloween Doorbell. Yes, I’ll admit it – when it comes to this stuff, I am indeed 12 years old. I can’t help myself. It lights up and talks, and that was just too much fun.
A friend of mine found one of these and sent it to me as a gift. It’s an Azio Retro Keyboard, and while this one is black with gold, mine is black with BRIGHT PINK! Yeah, it practically glows! It’s definitely one of the most colorful things in my office.
We painted the inside of our travel trailer, and it’s a combination of red, turquoise, and taupe. The fabric I’ll be using for the upholstery is a beautiful print, sort of Middle Easter-inspired. I’ll be adding colorful throw pillows, throws, and artwork. i can’t wait to see what it will look like!
Of course, of you’re a color-lover, this is the perfect time of year to enjoy the colors of autumn. My maples have already shed their leaves, and the ground in my backyard is a combination of oranges, reds, golds, and browns. It’s beautiful, even if it’s not still on the trees.

Because my life is about a lot more than just writing.
I love writing, but it’s not the only thing I love. Before I went back to writing, I worked for a while as a fiber and textile artist, working in both 2-D and 3-D. There’s no doubt that 3-D was my favorite. I love things that work together to provide an overall experience, and I’m always creating something. That’s what this blog will most likely be about for the most part – my busy little hands getting into all kinds of things. I’ll show you pictures of what I’m doing, and maybe someday soon there’ll even be video! Hey, it could happen.
One of the things I’ve been working on for a good while now is a faerieland. We’re not talking about a fairy garden here. Nope. We’re talking about a full-on faerie village, a multi-level one at that. I’ve gotten the first two levels done, and now I’m getting ready to work on the third. It’s not coming together yet, but I have things I’ve bought to get into it.
The first piece I ever bought for my little faerieland was this cute Shingletown Fairy Wizard’s House. I found it while I was on vacation, and it started the whole business of a faeryland dream. It will be the anchor for the final level of my faerieland. This cute little faerie house has a door that really opens.

The next addition will be this little gem. It’s also a Shingletown Fairy House and just like the Wizard’s House, it has a door that really opens.
This fairy house is part of the Fiddlehead Fairy Garden collection, just like the wizard’s house.
One of the things I’d note about the Fiddlehead Fairy and Shingletown Fairy collections is that all of these little houses have a hole in the bottom for a battery-operated tea light, and the windows are cut out, plus the doors open. It can look like a real village when they’re all lit!
This addition was a birthday present from a dear friend – a little Miniature Fairy Garden Retro Airstream RV Camper Trailer. She worried that it would be too big for the faerieland, but it’s just right! I love that it looks like a little Airstream camper. It’s sold by Midwest Design. I can’t wait to put it into the faerieland.

I bought a couple more items to go in the diorama. One is a little Shingletown Fairy Dog House with Bowl and the other is a Shingletown Fairy Garden Shed. I think the doghouse is going on the upper level with the castle and the other things up there.

I ordered a few more small things to put into the faerieland, but I’ll share those some other time. I’ll also probably do some videos and show how I made some of the trees and land features. I’m hoping to have enough space on the lower level to do a labyrinth – I’m not sure I can do it, but I’m going to try! I’m having a lot of fun with this whole thing. Stay tuned and see what I do next! Until then, know that writing isn’t all I’m doing.

Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep. As long as that machine kept beeping, Nikki knew things would be okay. If it stopped, so would her world as she knew it. Once was enough to go through that; a second time was completely unnecessary for her happiness.
“Waking up yet?” a voice asked from the doorway, and Nikki reached up to place her hand on Vic’s as it came to rest on her shoulder.

Her golden curls bobbed as she shook her head. “No. I feel like I’m reliving one of the worst times of my life.”
“No. You’re not. He’s going to be fine.” Vic’s voice was forceful but sweet, and Nikki knew what he was thinking. He didn’t want her going down a memory lane that would send her into a tailspin. She had to stay focused and positive for Tony’s sake. The medical personnel didn’t have to tell her that helping him stay optimistic was important; he’d heal better if he wasn’t stressed, upset, or depressed. As far as she was concerned, she was now his gatekeeper and it was her job to make sure things that would take him down were laid to waste.
“He will be. I’ll see to it.” She could feel that resolve building down deep in her chest. Her sweet husband stayed right by her side when she was so sick and she’d be right there for him.
“I’m glad Clayton and John Henry decided to kind of put the Ashland expansion on hold for a few months so they’ll be available to help out if you need them. And you know if you need me, I’ll be right . . .” A groggy voice interrupted Vic and he and Nikki both focused their attention on the man in the bed.
“Nik?” Tony’s voice was little more than a drugged-up whisper.
“Baby, I’m right here. It’s okay. You’re in CCU.” Nikki leaned closer to the side of the bed, then stood and bent down over him, dropping a soft kiss on his forehead. “How do you feel?”
“I don’t know,” he murmured back. “I . . . what happened? I don’t remember how I got here.”
“You had a heart attack. At the farm. They brought you to the hospital in an ambulance and you talked to Vic and me before they took you in for the angioplasty. Do you remember any of that?”
“Yeah. I do now.” There was this weird look on his face, almost like he was contemplating global warming or poverty in inner city Detroit. Finally, he came out with, “Can I have something to drink?” Before she could answer, he snapped out, “And when can I sit up?”
Nikki almost laughed. She could tell right that minute – she’d have her hands full with him.
