Thanks so much for getting in touch. Glad you enjoyed Mrs Sinclair's Suitcase. I have to be honest and say, I'm not sure what happens to Roberta and Philip, although I'm pretty sure they still live in the flat above the bookshop and spend their days working there. I suspect they are a good couple, happy and content. There might be a child or two by now... who knows? And I like to think Anna visits from time to time, forming a relationship with Roberta. Let's hope so! (less)

I started to, but it was so odd hearing my words spoken by those brilliant actresses. I felt so self-conscious. I'm doing fine, thank you for asking. My second novel is out 28 March. No plans for an audio version yet, but fingers crossed there will be one. Hope this answers your questions?! (less)

Wow. What a novel. There's so much to say I don't know where to start.

It's excellent in every regard. You feel every emotion available to us as human beings as you turn the pages towards the conclusion, but you don't ever really know how you feel ab

This is an odd one. Beautifully written, short, economical, no padding. Loved all of that. But the story is a bit opaque and ultimately a little disappointing. Lots of unanswered questions at the end. It had the feeling overall of a storm in a teacup ...more

Brilliantly read audiobook. The narrator is Madeleine Leslay and she is perfect for this novel. She gets the tone just right. This is an unusual story, at times funny, quaint, and charming. But don't allow the rather misleadingly sentimental title to ...more

I've read a few Anne Tyler novels now, and always enjoy them. Her stories are emotionally intelligent, the quality I enjoy most in fiction. And her books are easy to read, not particularly challenging or even surprising... but always rewarding and ra ...more

Warm and engaging. The heroine isn't always easy to relate to, but she grew on me a lot as the story progressed. The elderly neighbour Tansy is a well-drawn character and added a really colourful level to the novel. ...more

“I find things hidden in books: dried flowers, locks of hair, tickets, labels, receipt, invoices, photographs, postcards, all manner of cards. I find letters, unpublished works by the ordinary, the anguished, the illiterate. Clumsily written or eloquent, they are love letters, everyday letters, secret letters and mundane letters talking about fruit and babies and tennis matches, from people signing themselves as Majorie or Jean....I can't bring myself to dispose of these snippets and snapshots of lives that once meant (or still do mean) so much.”

“Books smell, they creak, they talk. You hold in your hand now a living, breathing, whispering thing, a book. Philip”
