(view spoiler)[Thanks for your questions and thanks for choosing my book for your book club. I don't come on to Goodreads much so I've only just seen this.
The letters at the start of each chapter weren't my idea, actually. I had a publisher interested in the book and she suggested adding these snippets of things found in books. In the end that editor didn't publish the book, but I liked the idea and went with it.
Dorothy selfish or unselfish... I don't know. A bit of both. I want the reader to decide for themselves. She couldn't possibly have known how things would have turned out for John without her doing what she did.
I included Nina at the end partly to put that doubt in the reader's mind... we can see how she turned out, at least get an idea of how her life went after the war. I think D can see that as well, hence her discomfort.
So glad you enjoyed the book. I have written two more, and have a fourth on the way. Hope the book club is still going strong,

Hi Maria! Thanks so much for getting in touch. Glad you enjoyed Mrs Sinclair's Suitcase. I have to be honest and say, I'm not sure what happens to Roberta and Philip, although I'm pretty sure they still live in the flat above the bookshop and spend their days working there. I suspect they are a good couple, happy and content. There might be a child or two by now... who knows? And I like to think Anna visits from time to time, forming a relationship with Roberta. Let's hope so!

The best thing is the joy of writing. Making up worlds and peopling them with characters of our own invention. At times it can be an almost mystical experience. I also feel at my calmest and most complete as a person when I'm writing (unless it's not going well, when I become a stressed out wreck).

Hi Sunny Shore (great name!), thanks so much for listening to and enjoying Mrs S. I have to confess I haven't listened yet. I started to, but it was so odd hearing my words spoken by those brilliant actresses. I felt so self-conscious. I'm doing fine, thank you for asking. My second novel is out 28 March. No plans for an audio version yet, but fingers crossed there will be one. Hope this answers your questions?!
