Book Review: Allegiant (Divergent Series #3) by Veronica Roth

Allegiant by Veronica RothSynopsis

The faction-based society that Tris Prior once believed in is shattered—fractured by violence and power struggles and scarred by loss and betrayal. So when offered a chance to explore the world past the limits she’s known, Tris is ready. Perhaps beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a simple new life together, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties, and painful memories.

But Tris’s new reality is even more alarming than the one she left behind. Old discoveries are quickly r...

August 2014 Loot Crate Reveal

Loot Crate 2014 August RevealIt’s time for another awesome Loot Crate reveal! This month the theme is HEROES and it’s my favorite one so far! I’ve been getting Loot Crate for Mr. Awesome for a few months now and haven’t asked for anything he’s gotten, but he was quick to share when he saw it featured one of my all time favorite cartoons. But on to that in a second…

First, a little background. If you are a gamer or fan of pop culture, you’ll love Loot Crate. It’s a monthly subscription service that sends you a box of cool...

Why Anna is Sci-fi, Not a Contemporary Novel

Anna Starseed CoverI’ve been seeing a trend lately in the reviews for Anna. Readers are saying that Anna reads more as a contemporary novel than science fiction…and they’re correct, but there’s a reason for it.

As I’ve said in past interviews, I devised The Starseed Series as a way for teen girls to get into reading science fiction, which is why the first book isn’t an all out “in your face” sci-fi read. It’s a lead in. In the next book, there will be more science fiction, but this series will probably never be...

Minnie Mouse Themed First Birthday Party

Last weekend, we had our daughter’s 1st birthday party. She’s a fan of Mickey Mouse Club House, so I did a Minnie Mouse theme with a bit of Mickey thrown in. Personally, I like old school Minnie, before the marketers felt the need to make her clothes pink in an effort to make her more relatable to girls. So, I looked for decorations where she’s wearing red and that was a lot harder than you would think. I managed to find them on Amazon.

Here is the overall “look” of the party.

MyBlogU: What are you reading?

bookI’ve been hanging out at MyBlogU, a new site that helps bloggers collaborate on projects and ideas. I wanted to try out their interview feature, so I thought, “let’s find out what people are reading this summer!” What resulted was an interesting compilation of opinions on books, indie authors, and ebooks from people who read a variety of genres. Take a look!

Questions we’ve been discussing:

What book, short story, or novella are you reading right now?
Do you ever read Indie (non-traditional) aut...

Will Anna Be On Kindle Unlimited?

Kindle UnlimitedYou may be wondering if Anna will be part of the new Kindle Unlimited, Amazon’s recently launched subscription service for its e-reader. Sorry to have to tell all you Kindle addicts, but, no, Anna will not be joining the Kindle Unlimited catalog. I understand the allure from the reader’s perspective. After all, you can pay $9.99 per month for unlimited books and audiobooks. However, from an author’s standpoint, it’s a bad idea. Why? Because it requires us to be enrolled in KDP Select, which,...

There’s a Surprise Waiting on Wattpad!

Keep Calm and Read on WattpadThe first two chapters of Quintina, book 2 of The Starseed Series, is now on Wattpad. I haven’t advertised it, because it’s the unedited version and details are likely to change. I’m not going to share much here, because I don’t want to spoil Anna for anyone who hasn’t read it. If you’re interested in seeing how the story continues, head over to Wattpad and check out the first two chapters. Don’t forget to leave me some feedback in the comments and give it a vote if you enjoy it.

The post Ther...

Relieving Stomach Discomfort with dōTERRA’s Lemon Essential Oil

Relieving Stomach Discomfort with dōTERRA’s Lemon Essential OilI continue my exploration into using essential oils with dōTERRA’s Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade® Lemon. When I first heard about essential oils, I was leary of using them internally (and I still am), because of how potent they are. However, testimonials have made me interested in some of the daily supplements and I figured Lemon would be the safest to try.

I read that Lemon was a good addition to a glass of water and could be used to relieve stomach discomfort. Sitting at work for longs ho...

Location Specific Hashtags Can Be a Security Risk for Others

Farmers Insurance BurglarI’m on social media a lot for my day job and I’ve noticed a slightly disconcerting trend growing, and I want to point it out for the sake of improving how people protect themselves online.

We’re often told to watch what we post on the internet, because nothing is truly guaranteed private and sharing too much information could be a risk to our own safety and that of our family. Do you remember the Farmers Insurance commercial where the woman posts she’s going on vacation and the burglar respond...
