Indie Spotlight on Romance: Aliens Need Brides

Taking the mail-order-bride to the stars is a popular trope in science-fiction romance. Grace Goodwin's riff features an alliance of alien soldiers facing a deadly enemy and protecting earth in return for mates. The steamy to plot quotient is such that they edge into erotica, but the plots are strong enough that the writing duo that goes by Grace Goodwin can get away with it.

Having read a half dozen from the various series, some are stronger than others. The first in the Intergalactic Brides is not the strongest in the series, but it does establish the framework.

The Ascension Saga is the newest, and while I have not read it, the first volume is free. Be aware that it is the first of a 3 volume serial with cliff-hangers. The other two volumes are currently US$2.99.

Surrender to the Cyborgs

Indie Spotlight on Romance: More Money than Sense

There's romantic comedy and then there is madcap, billionaires with family drama rom-com. He picked up the shards of the pencil his father caused him to destroy, and an absurd idea took hold. An evil-genius idea.

As much as that set up signals what is coming, it also doesn't. Rom-com is not my usual cuppa, but Jenny Holiday's The Engagement Game has a charming ability to nod at the clichés while violating them. The billionaire hero can be an alpha-hole, but it's not his 'go to' state and he owns it when called on it. The free spirit heroine has a sharp mind, and unlike many 'feisty' heroines, is never nasty.

Throw in a well drawn mix of secondary characters and some super steamy moments that take their time arriving, and it is a thoroughly enjoyable escapist read.
