How To Celebrate A Wednesday

Yesterday’s lesson while editing The Husband Games:

There’s a big difference between a man confessing to a crowded stadium that he “screwed up a lot” and that he “screwed a lot.”

Squeaker, Munchkin, and the Ninja Bunny

NinjaBunny EatYourCarrotsThe other night at dinner, Squeaker didn’t want to eat his carrots. So SuperHubby looked at Munchkin. “Hey, Munchkin. Who eats a lot of carrots?”

Munchkin: “Mommy.” (True. I’m addicted to roasted carrots.)

SuperHubby: “Who else?”

Munchkin: “Bunnies.”

SuperHubby: “Who else?”

Munchkin: “Ninjas.”

SuperHubby: “Correct. And why do ninjas eat a lot of carrots?”

Munchkin: “So they can see in the dark.”

SuperHubby: “Correct. So what does that tell you?”

Munchkin: “Mommy is a ninja who can see in the dark.”

SuperHubby: “Correct.”

Munchkin: “But probably bunnies aren’t ninjas.”

Ah, Munchkin. So much to learn about ninjas still. :-)

A Year of Happy Mondays – Memorial Day Edition

852-4th-of-july-love-heart-1013tm-bkgvSuperHubby has been in the military for over a decade, so this Monday, all my smiles are about my favorite moments courtesy of military life. Happy Monday, and be safe, y’all!

My Top Ten Favorite Moments of Military Life

10. Watching the Thunderbirds fly over my house during practice before an air show when SuperHubby and I lived on base. I’m totally in awe of what those pilots can do. And as Munchkin would say, they make the sound of freedom!

9. Bunco! When we were stationed in Ohio, I joined the spouses’ group’s bunco club. We’re all stationed all over the US (and world!) now, but we still keep in touch on Facebook.

8. Hanging out at the Friday Night Bar on base back before we had kids. I’ll never forget the promotion party where I stuck my finger in an acquaintance’s beer bottle while I was talking with my hands. (I was totally sober. It was rather embarrassing.)

7. Getting called at home by the bartender at the Friday Night Bar. (Background: There are rules posted in the various military club bars, and if you get caught breaking the rules, someone rings the bell and you have to buy a round. One of the rules is that you can’t read the rules. Another is that you can’t make phone calls inside the bar. So SuperHubby had the bartender call and tell me to get up there and join everyone one Friday night instead. But just for the record, there weren’t any rules about not sticking your finger in other peoples’ beer.)

6. Giving birth to all three of my babies at military hospitals.

5. Meeting my friend Jen for the first time by calling her from inside her house to tell her that her fish tank was overheating. (They were in the middle of a military move. Her husband and fish had arrived. She hadn’t. Her husband had to go out of town, so I was fish-sitting.)

4. The balls. Y’all, if you ever get a chance to go to a military ball, do it!! There are so many rich traditions, and everything’s executed flawlessly, and the men (and women) in their mess dress uniforms are so sharp, and they dance pretty well too–it’s a great time.

3. The saber arch at our wedding.

2. That time a friend left our house at 7 AM on a Saturday morning, in full service dress, carrying a bouquet of balloons, because he’d over-imbibed at his promotion party and couldn’t drive himself home the night before. (Our house was just around the corner from the Friday Night Bar. Wasn’t the only time someone slept on our couch, but it was certainly the most memorable!)

1. SuperHubby in uniform. That never gets old, y’all. :-)

Have a wonderful Memorial Day!

Tomorrow’s the last day to get SOUTHERN FRIED BLUES at $0.99!

Friday Fun

Y’all, I can’t believe how close it is to our move! My house is getting packed up bit by bit, my two younger kids are in their last day of preschool, and I have the winner from my maybe-last, but probably-not-last Help A Military Wife Move giveaway!

(Y’all, I seriously appreciate that my books are going to good homes! That makes it so much easier to part with them.)

So! You ready for a winner?

Congratulations to…

SASHARENAY!!

HelpAMilitaryWifeMoveWinner7

Sasharenay, email me at jamie @ jamiefarrellbooks . com (no spaces) with your address, and I’ll get the books in the mail to you right away!

And because it’s the Friday before Memorial Day, and because SOUTHERN FRIED BLUES is a military romance, and because it’s a finalist for both the National Readers’ Choice Awards and the National Excellence in Romance Fiction Awards, you should snag your copy and tell all your friends! It won’t be $0.99 much longer, and Jackson Davis really wants you to read his story. (Trust me. He’s worth it.)

Amazon | Barnes & Noble | Kobo | iBooks | Google Play | Smashwords

Also because it’s Friday, and because everyone can always use a smile, here’s an awesome video of Luke Bryan and the most adorable little girl singing with him. If she doesn’t make you smile, I don’t know what will.

Happy Friday, and Happy Memorial Day!

Lunchtime with Squeaker

We had pizza for lunch the other day. But Squeaker said it was too hot. So he flipped it upside down (so the cheese was on the plate and the crust was up), and he asked me to cut it.

Like a snowman.

(Side note: How do you cut a pizza like a SNOWMAN?)

So, I cut it vertically, but he shrieked, “No! No! Not like that! Like this!” And he proceeded to wave his arms in some fashion that resembled a chicken directing traffic at an airport. (Does the pig latin language have an official sign language translation?)

I tried again, this time cutting it horizontally.

“Yeah, yeah, like that,” Squeaker said.

So when he had six strips of pizza, he directed me to cut it vertically again. (Apparently order is important.) “Like a snowman,” he said again.

And like I knew what he was talking about, I continued to cut his crust-side-up pizza until he had a bunch of little squares. Then he said, “Now do this. Like a snowman.” And then he did more gestures that may have been offensive in some countries, and questionable at least in this one, and I just sat there and said, “Huh?”

He made some more gestures with his hands (maybe he’s in training to be a third base coach??), and I eventually figured out he wanted me to pull the pieces apart. (“Like a snowman.” Seriously, Squeaker, I don’t get it.) So, I used my fingers… and I got more shrieking and possibly a middle finger. “WITH YOUR KNIFE!!!” he yelled. “LIKE A SNOWMAN!!!”

If you’re confused, them let me simply assure you that Squeaker did, in fact, end up eating some of his lunch. Then Munchkin decided they needed to build a fort, and that was much more exciting than crust-side-up snowman pizza.

Life is never boring with those two around. :-)

Since Memorial Day is coming up, and SOUTHERN FRIED BLUES is a military romance, I’m keeping it on sale for $0.99 for a while longer! Make sure you get your copy today, and tell your friends!

Happy Release Day to Jeannie Moon and The Wedding Secret!

Jeannie Moon, The Wedding Secret

The Wedding Secret is available today!! Happy release day, Jeannie Moon!

I first read Jeannie when her debut, The Temporary Wife, came out last summer, and I loved it! So when Jeannie asked if I’d like to read an advanced copy of The Wedding Secret, I jumped right on it! Jeannie writes hot with heart, and Kevin and Harper are two great characters you’ll root for from the start. If you like your romance with…

a) A hot baseball player

b) And a smart heroine

c) Who has secrets in her past

d) And who can take care of herself (OMG, y’all, Harper ROCKS)

e) But will also let her man take care of her sometimes (in all the right ways)

f) Especially after he finds out her secret

g) And TOTALLY mans up to deal with it (Kevin will melt your heart),

then you have GOT to read this book.

You can get your copy at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, iBooks, and Kobo!

To celebrate, Jeannie’s having a party on Facebook today with tons of authors and tons of prizes. Want to hang with Kelsey Browning, Kimberly Kincaid, Kristan Higgins, Virginia Kantra, Robin Covington, Violet Duke, Carly Phillips, and more? Swing by!! I’ll be there too this afternoon!
