Scoring the Quarterback by S.M. Soto

Title: Scoring the Quarterback
Series: San Diegan Series #2Author: S.M. SotoGenre: New Adult Contemporary RomanceRelease Date: May 15, 2018

Blurb
An epic Frenemies to lovers romance.

Luke Caldwell has three abhorrent qualities to him:1) He’s a pig-headed jock.2) He’s a grade A asshole with the biggest, overbearing ego.3) He’s a manwhore.
These three qualities alone should’ve had me running for the hills. I tried to steer clear of him, I really did, but it was an impossible feat. Luke Caldwell was nothing if not persistent and the way he bulldozed through my life, not taking no for an answer is proof of it.
I tried to stay away from him.
I wanted to hate him. But I couldn’t.
Luke was nothing like the idiot jock I pegged him out to be. He became a friend, a confidant, and after one unforgettable night, he became so much more.
Whatever this is between us, it’s impossible to ignore. I just hope when all is said and done, I won’t be burned by the college bad boy.

We both laughed and clinked the plastic together before each taking a sip. Licking the sweetness from my lips, I lowered my glass with both hands, eyes following it. “Can I ask you something?” “Sure, anything.” Logan drained his portion of champagne and set his glass down. Sticking hands in his pockets, he leaned his hip against the freezer to face me. “Why do you care so much?” I lifted my face, devoid of expression. “I mean about my writing. About my work. All these years, I thought you were this tough, no feelings kind of guy. Yet, you’ve shown so much… I don’t know. Emotion. Why?”  Logan paused, a soft grin on his face, then tilted his head and moved in closer. “I told you before. You don’t know me as well as you think you do.”Squirming, a little embarrassed, I broke from his gaze and tucked my elbows close to my side, still holding onto my champagne flute with both hands. “Well I am glad that you’re here.” I took in a deep breath and let it out slow, savoring the moment as I looked to the rich sunset forming outside. Pinks, blues, lavenders. Like cotton candy.   I turned back, Logan’s face only inches from mine.“Me too,” he answered. Just then, the breeze whipped in through the door. “It probably should be Ryan, though. Right?” Logan pressed his lips tight, leaned back some and looked away towards the sunset.  My stomach clenched at the mention of my husband’s name. “Maybe. But he wouldn’t be toasting with me. That’s for sure.” Lifting my glass, I drained what was left in it. Logan didn’t miss a beat and reached for the bottle, giving me a refill. I took a sip before continuing. “And, I doubt he’d care. I don’t think he wants me to succeed at anything; he has no concern for my passions whatsoever. I’m not sure I’ll even tell him about this.” I went quiet, my head spinning, not only from the phone call and the champagne, but also from the reality of my situation. The thought of Ryan dampened my celebratory mood. “Hey…” Logan removed the glass from my hands with the tip of his fingers and set it down. “Let’s not talk about him right now. Okay?” Taking my arms, he pulled me close, wrapping them around the back of his waist. Nervous, my heart pounded as I caught the essence of carburetor mixed with his signature musky lemon cologne from his t-shirt. He’d come from working at Monroe Auto, but he somehow smelled good enough to go on a date.“Okay,” I murmured and looked up at him. He released his hands to hold my face. Rough and calloused from working on cars all his life, his touch was still delicate as he bent, taking my lips in his. Logan kissed me, light and gentle at first. Like I might break under his touch. But then, he dragged me closer, pressing his body to mine and taking more of me into his mouth, our kiss building intensity. “I care,” he whispered against my skin.  My body wouldn’t relax fully. We lived on the outskirts of town, but with the garage door open, anyone could see right in. That would start some gossip. “What’s wrong?” He leaned back, picking up on my tension. Noooo, don’t stop. I pointed to the open door, then wiped at my wet lips. He smirked. “That’s easy.” He walked to the side of the door and pressed the CLOSE button. The walk-in door to the outside was still open, but this was enough to conceal us. He took back his place with me, and I let go, running my hand up his back, feeling the warmth of his skin. A moment later, Logan drew back again, his eyes fixed down into mine. He kept his hands tangled behind my head in my long hair. “He has no idea what he has, Em. The depth of you is incredible. I see it. I see you.” I squeezed my eyes shut, trying not to cry again. Logan took notice and pulled me to his chest in a hug. With my eyes still shut, I lifted away. Logan bent, our lips crashing again, before I opened them.  I wanted to stay like this forever.A minute later, a truck roared outside the garage door. Ryan. “Shit!” Logan and I broke from each other. I grabbed my glass, clearing my throat; he grabbed his bottle of beer, and we composed ourselves quickly. He stayed close, though, enough to touch the side of my body. We leaned with our backs against the deep freeze as Ryan walked in the side door.Everything that had just happened--everything that hashappened--with Logan had felt right. Unfortunately, that still didn’t make it right. “What the hell is this?” Once inside, Ryan planted his legs wide and crossed his arms. His face tightened, and he glared between the two of them.

Author Bio

A lifetime of experiences fill the pages of my stories. An elementary teacher and single parent for twenty years, I supplemented income with sidelines like special-occasion garment designer and creator, cake decorator, interior designer, bank teller, computer consultant, admin clerk at a nuclear power plant construction site. Everything is grist for my writing mill.
This girly-girl prefers pearls, Guerlain’s L’Instant Parfum, peonies, and the color pink.
What ties it all together? What has been a universal constant through it all?
Romance.
And so that’s what I write. Romances that are occasionally sweet, ofttimes steamy, a few times off-the-charts explicit. I write romantic stories short enough to fit in an anthology, stories a little longer to entertain during a trip to the beach, or stories long enough to explore and get lost in for days. Some will make you laugh out loud, and some will run the gamut of emotion. If you want to smolder with desire, that story is here, too.
In other words, if you’re in the mood to read something romantic, you’ve found the right place.
After all, kisses are only a dream away…

Belleza and the Brute By Jane Matisse

Author: Jane MatisseTitle: Belleza and the BruteRelease Date: April 28, 2018Publisher: Hot Tree PublishingCover Designer: Soxsational Cover Art Add to TBR
Available now! Amazon US:  https://amzn.to/2qi0mWM All other links:  books2read.com/belleza   When two lost souls are brought together in an unlikely circumstance, it’ll take more to scare this feisty beauty away from a domineering beast. A story of love, loss, and learning to accept when life gives you a second chance.
Elena Salazar has taken care of her gambling-addicted brother since her parents’ death. When he calls her late one night asking for help, she’s thrown into Tristan Mercier’s life and is at his mercy. Unable to pay her brother’s debt, a contract is signed: she will live and work for Tristan for six months while her brother is sent to rehab.
Tristan Mercier is scarred, both physically and emotionally. He lost his happily ever after five years earlier in a fire that nearly took his life. He’s broken and bitter, but with Elena’s arrival, things are changing, and the feelings he thought long buried begin to resurface.
Can this brute open his heart to give his belleza a chance?

Something about the way her plump lips stayed open in wonder held him mesmerized. He cleared his throat. “Yes, it is. You know John William Waterhouse’s work?”Elena answered without taking her eyes off the painting. “Not really. It’s just his rendition of La Belle Dame Sans Merci is my favorite.”“So, you’re an art aficionado?”“No, I just like to read. A lot. Keats is my favorite poet, and La Belle is my favorite poem of his. The paintings are just a plus.”Tristan nodded. If he thought he was a little curious about Elena before, now he wanted to know her life story. Clearing his throat, he pushed a packet before her.The contract.“This contract pretty much states that while your brother is off in rehab, you will be living and working with me. Now, this is only temporary, but if after the time frame you would like to continue to work for me, it could be arranged. Six months is the initial requirement. This work doesn’t in any way, shape, or form signify… sexual services.” Heat rose to his face. Why he felt like a green boy, he didn’t know. It wasn’t like he was a monk for Christ’s sake. When he was in the mood, there was always a woman available for his pleasure. Did he feel empty afterward? Yes, but that didn’t stop him. He was a red-blooded man after all.“This says a period of six months,” Elena replied, her face slightly flushed.“Yes. Six months, granted that your brother recuperates within that time frame.”“That seems a bit long doesn’t it?”“It gives both you and Adam time to get your life on track.”There was a silence long enough that Tristan began to think she would reject the offer. And there was a little part of him that wished she wouldn’t. “I accept.”Tristan handed her a pen, and she tentatively reached for it, her hand brushing against his in the process. He found himself marveling at the electric current running through his veins in response to the touch. She signed her name on the dotted line. “Very well, then. We are in agreement. Now, you may go get yourself comfortable in your new bedroom. Paola will show you,” he said, standing from his chair and walking toward the door.“When will I start working?” Elena asked as she followed him.“Monday. In the meantime, get settled in, take a couple days to familiarize yourself with the house. You will be here for six months.”Tristan waited next to the entrance as Elena took her leave. He caught the scent of lavender as she passed him, and it took all his willpower not to plant his nose in her hair and inhale her scent. He swallowed a few times before speaking. “Breakfast will be served in the dining room within the hour if you care to eat,” he said gruffly. “If you need anything from me, I’ll be here in the office.”“You’re not eating?” she asked, turning to look at him.He shook his head. “Too much work I need to take care of. You enjoy.”Elena nodded and left without another word.Tristan watched her as she climbed up the steps with Paola following right behind. Her beautiful long brown hair swayed with each step she took. He was planted in one spot, unable to tear his eyes away. Then Paola turned to look at him and winked!  Available now! Amazon US:  https://amzn.to/2qi0mWM All other links:  books2read.com/belleza

DEMON KING'S DESIRE by J.L. Sheppard

DEMON KING'S DESIREElemental Sisters Series#1
by J.L. SheppardGenre: Paranormal Fantasy Romance

Jenna Jenson’s spent her life wondering why she’s different. The only people who may help her find out have been lost to her since their mother’s death. When she’s attacked by a man whose supernatural abilities supersede her own, she’s rescued by the devastatingly handsome demon king, Lucas Thaler. While she’s inexplicably drawn to him, powers she never knew she possessed are unleashed, leading her to discover she’s part of a new breed of immortals who can either save or destroy life.

After a war in his demon plane and home, Lucas has dedicated his life to battling Malum Inmortalis, rogue immortals whose sole purpose is to rule immortals and mortals alike. As fate would have it, the hunt for these vile creatures leads him to her. Instantly, he recognizes her. She’s the woman he’s been waiting for, for centuries, the woman he’s been dreaming of for centuries—his fated mate.

Lucas climbed the series of steps and knocked on his bedroom door.

“Come in.”

He opened the door. His gaze landed on her, sitting on the bed, a towel wrapped around her. Clenching his jaw, he turned and dropped the bag he held in his grip on the floor. Then he closed his eyes hoping to wipe away the image of her in a towel. No use, it’d been seared in his mind since the night before.

“I’m sorry. I thought I heard you say come in.”

“I did.”

Fisting his hands, he forced his voice to remain calm. “You’re in a towel.”

“What is it with you guys and towels? It’s not like I’m naked.”

“No, you aren’t, but Jenna, do you realize the effect you have on men?”

For a moment, he heard nothing, not even her breaths. Then she stood and neared. “Excuse me.”

Damn it. Maybe he shouldn’t have said it. Granted, if she didn’t know, she should. Maybe then, she would mind men seeing her in a towel. He hated the thought of anyone looking at her, at what was his. It was irrational, he knew, but he couldn’t help how he felt.

“Lucas, turn around.”

He did as told but kept his stare level, above her head.

“Now look at me.”

He angled his head, stared into her eyes, and admired the dark-brown hue. Then because he couldn’t help himself, he lifted his hand and trailed it along the side of her face. He’d never felt anything so soft, silky. He shouldn’t have expected anything less. She was all beauty, the way she looked, walked, talked, even moved, and she deserved better than him, a demon, a monster.

“You’re so beautiful, Jenna. Any man would give his life to touch you once, just like this.”

Her breaths coming out in small gasps, she whispered, “I feel it. I hadn’t noticed it before, but I feel it now.”

Cupping her cheeks, he leaned into her so her mouth was millimeters from his. “What do you feel?” He asked even knowing she felt what he did because around her, it was hard to keep his emotions in check.

“What you’re feeling… I think it’s awe.”

He couldn’t help himself then either. Gaze scanning her face, he leaned down and claimed her lips. When he parted his mouth, she parted hers. Then he slid his tongue inside, and she did the same, kissing him as softly as desperately.

Without losing hold of her mouth, he hooked an arm around her waist, tugged her toward him, and lifted her off her feet. Instantly, she wrapped her legs around him inching her towel higher. Her core’s warmth on his stomach, he groaned.

Take her. Claim her. Mark her. His demon, his instincts demanding what belonged to him. He fought them, fought to keep control.

He hadn’t told her she belonged to him, hadn’t told her what it meant, so he didn’t have a choice.Using all the willpower he had, he pressed his forehead against hers, tore his mouth away, set her on her feet, and strode away.

Excerpt
Chapter One
Sophie moves into a new building. There are sexy assholes.
The first time we argue, I feel alive. I’m sweating, my blood’s pumping, and my hair is sticking to my face in the stinking New York City humidity. I don’t know what life really is until some asshole starts screaming at me to move my van from his spot, because it feels so damn good to yell right back at him.“Get your U-Haul out of my parking spot!” This guy’s hollering at me from across the street.“Excuse me?” I call back, convinced he isn’t speaking to me. No one ever yells at me. I’m unassuming and introverted. I’m a wallpaper ninja, blending so well people can’t even find me to yell at me.But the guy across the street sees me, clear as day.“Are you deaf?” he yells with slow and exaggerated articulation. “Get your damn moving van out of my spot.”I’m not the type of person to engage in a verbal fight. I’m quiet-even when someone pisses me off. I roll with the chaotic nature of my beautifully harsh city: a strand of seaweed in the ocean, riding the tides. But after surviving the day from hell, only to be accosted by this bear of a man? I fight back, like I never have before. “Last time I checked there are no spots assigned to people on this block, or anywhere else in Brooklyn.”“It’s an unwritten rule.”I mimic his earlier tone, hitting every consonant and unleashing my New York accent to embellish the attitude. “If you couldn’t tell, I’m moving into the building and there’s an actual written rule that if I double-park the U-Haul, I’ll get a ticket.”“That’s not my problem, baby.” He steps into the street, waiting for a break in traffic to cross. “Find a new spot.”I nearly drop the moving box in outrage before remembering it has wine glasses mom sent from Napa. Breaking them would be a crime. I’ll need them before this shit day is over, especially after getting a look at the man charging at me like a bull chasing red.As he crosses the street I expect to see a guido with a beer gut, and while I imagine he’s got a decent percentage of Italian heritage, there sure as hell ain’t no beer gut.  Instead I’m greeted by a fit and trim physique, tanned skin, and biceps I could drool over. The muscles in his arms tense and roll with every word, every wild gesticulation. He levels with me on the sidewalk and removes his sunglasses, revealing dark eyes flecked with gold. He’s shockingly handsome—like runway model handsome— combined with the grittiness of a rock star and the best parts of a native New Yorker. I’m wearing the tank top I slept in last night, a ratty old sports bra, and shorts I haven’t washed for two weeks. This day is the pits.“Because of your stupid van, I had to circle the surrounding blocks for twenty minutes to find a spot for my pickup truck. A paid, limited-parking, spot.” “How is your poor car choice my fault? Who in their right mind has a pickup truck and lives in Brooklyn? You’re just asking for endless nights searching for parking. What do you do when it snows?”The challenge in his eyes is like a book I have to devour. One flexed bicep, an arched eyebrow, and I’m hooked. He shoots a disparaging glance at my van before asking, “You’re moving into this building?” He points at my new place.I’ve propped the outer foyer door open and there are boxes preloaded onto a dolly at the top of the stoop.“No.” I lay the sarcasm on thick. “I’ve come here to unload this van with the sole purpose of pissing you off. I thought, ‘who in all of New York can I make the most miserable today?’ ” I raise one arm in a fist pump. “I won!”His eyes widen like he can’t believe I’m not backing down, and I might be hallucinating from the heat, but I swear I catch a smile before he starts laying into me again, our voices getting louder and louder.“I don’t care what you’re doing; I need this spot for my truck, and you need to move.”“I will move my truck when I’m good and ready.”“You’ll move now.”“No.”“No? That’s it?”“That’s it?” I repeat, dumbfounded. As if the world revolves around this asshole’s giant ego. “I’ll tell you what’s it. It’sninety-eight degrees outside. I had to take a day off work to move because the management company of this stupid new building insists I move one week after signing the lease, much to the dismay of my boss, who was kinda pissed I didn’t come in today.” He opens his mouth to speak and I cover it with my hand, unwilling to break my stride. I haven’t unloaded like this in years. “And then the rental company loses my reservation for the van, and proceeds to send me to two consecutive branches 'till I found one that has the size I reserved. Two branches.”His eyes narrow as he crosses his arms, but he doesn’t stop me. I’m on a damn roll, releasing pressure built by an awful day, and years of containing my opinion to the written word. I keep my hand on his lips, not because it feels nice or anything, but because I need to get this off my chest and he’s the unlucky bastard who’s gonna hear it. Not even an introvert of my level can keep it cool after the shit storm of my day.<o:p

Wall Street Journal bestselling author Ilsa Madden-Mills and USA Todaybestselling author Tia Louise are back with an all-new romantic comedy filled with Southern sass and steamy scenes that will have you laughing out loud and fanning yourself. Pour the sweet tea and get ready…
“The best way to get over your sh**ty ex-fiancé is to get under a shiny new stud…”
As soon as Mr. Tall, Blond, and Handsome walks into that bar, I know he’s the hook-up I need to get over stupid Cheater Kyle.
A few stolen kisses in a dark hallway, and I’m pretty sure we’re headed for a home run—until he disappears without a trace.
Whatever. Men are all snakes in the grass, and I don’t need a new one anyway.
I resolve to forget about his perfect lips (and chest of steel) and instead focus on turning my Granny’s old beach house into a profitable B&B.
What I don’t expect is for him to show up the next day in my kitchen!
You see, my sexy mystery man is none other than Jax Roland, the drop-dead gorgeous home improvement star of The Right Stud, and he’s got an offer I can’t refuse.
With a suitcase in one hand and a hammer in the other, he wants to move in and renovate my old house while he films his new show.
But my roommate has secrets, and they threaten to rip our blossoming friendship—and possible love—apart.
When push comes to shove, is Jax really The Right Stud or is he just another nail in the coffin of love?

Author Bio

Cecelia Mecca is the author of the bestselling Border Series medieval romance.
A former English teacher, Cecelia combines two of her passions, romance novels and the middle ages, transporting readers to an admittedly romanticized time of knights and castles. Her first series, set along the Anglo-Scottish border in 13th century Northumbria, turned Cecelia from educator to full-time author. Readers love the Border Series for its focus on well-developed characters and their steamy relationships leading to satisfying happily ever afters.
Cecelia lives in Northeast, Pennsylvania with her husband and two young children where she can be found either planning a Disney trip, watching period dramas or convincing her children to watch Star Wars. She is firmly House Stark and Gryffindor.
