A Journey Home by Angela Scavone

A JOURNEY HOME
by
Angela Scavone
GENRE: Contemporary Romance

Stephanie Tyler’s sole job is to fly overseas to war torn areas of the world to retrieve and escort the bodies of fallen soldiers back home to the United States. It is a tough and emotional job but she is honored for the privilege. Her duty also helps her to escape her past and her failed marriage.

But those flights have become increasingly more dangerous and she is forced to have a partner accompany her. Much to Stephanie’s surprise and dismay, she is partnered up with her ex-husband, Captain “D.A.” Douglas Aston.

From the moment Captain D.A. enters the scene, he irritates her. It could have something to do with the fact he slept with her best friend while they were married. As they go on several missions together, Stephanie is forced to be courteous and professional with D.A. even though the very sight of him irritates her beyond comprehension.

Then, Stephanie’s cheating, husband stealing, ex-best friend is killed in Afghanistan and Stephanie and D.A. must escort her body home. While executing this difficult duty, a myriad of conflicting emotions makes Stephanie ponder how short life really is . . . and to question her own ability to forgive.

“Do you have any idea how hard it is to make friends when you don’t trust anyone anymore?”

Our eyes met and he let the question linger in the air before answering.

“I understand that.” He held my gaze. “But why can’t you just have fun?”

“I used to have fun. A lot of fun, in fact, with this person I called a best friend. He and I would go on walks in the evenings, to the beach on the weekends. We’d go to movies, the theater, concerts. I could even convince him to go get a pedicure and a massage with me once in a while.”

DA smiled at all the memories.

I added, “I also had this other really good friend. She wasn’t as close as my best friend, but she and I would do all the girly things that my guy friend wouldn’t do with me, like shop for hours on end.”

“Yeah, I still hate shopping.” DA maintained his smile.

“Then, both of them broke my heart and my trust in one afternoon.”

The smile on his face disappeared and he dropped his eyes to stare at the floor.

I could feel the familiar prickle of tears and jumped off the couch. “I gotta go. It’s past my bedtime.” I headed toward the front door. “Thanks for the pizza.”

DA had risen from the love seat and crossed the room in two strides to waylay me. He shut the door with my hand still on the knob. He was so close behind me I could feel his breath on the back of my neck.

“Steph . . . I’m sorry.”

I refused to turn around. I didn’t want him to see that I was about to start crying.

“If I could do it all over again, I would never have become such good friends with Alex,” he whispered against my hair. “If I had known what her intentions were, I would’ve stopped it before it ever became an issue. I honestly didn’t know what she was trying to do until that day in the kitchen. Then you left so fast and wouldn’t take any of my calls or see me.”

He pressed his forehead to the back of my neck. “I’m so deeply and truly sorry for ever hurting you. And I really hope one day you can forgive me.”

By the time he’d finished speaking I had tears streaming down my face and I didn’t know what to say to him. He kissed the back of my neck, the warm sensation so familiar that I couldn’t resist turning around. He had me pinned against the front door as we began kissing, lightly at first, then deeper, urgent.

I wanted to believe him, but I just couldn’t. I couldn’t get past the image of the two of them together. I abruptly pushed him away.

“I have to go,” was all I could say, then I opened the door again and this time he let me go.

✯✯✯✯✯honor and forgiveness highlight this spiritually inspiring tale of love, love lost By Frank Scozzarion Verified Purchase Sometimes in life, one is thrown into situations which defy imagination. In A JOURNEY HOME, a twist of fate throws Air Force Captain Stephanie Tyler into a cockpit with her cheating ex-husband, Captain Douglas ‘DA’ Aston. Flying long hours overseas with him is uncomfortable enough, and made even more unimaginable when the two must retrieve the body of an Afghanistan War casualty (the woman who caused the demise of their marriage). Powerful emotions, reverence, honor and forgiveness highlight this spiritually inspiring tale of love, love lost, and salvation. It is a sobering look at the true cost of war. Several times while reading this book I felt a shiver run through my body. The story, and how it’s told, is that compelling. Angela Scavone does an excellent job of writing with realism and sentiment in a way that literally swept me away. A moving book that will keep you reflecting long after you’ve turned the last page.

✯✯✯✯✯Grab some tissues and a quart of mint chocolate chip ice cream---A Journey Home is an awesome read!By RebeccaA Journey Home is beautifully written, balancing the tragedy of fallen soldiers with light-hearted moments of a couple falling back into love. Honor. Protocol. Faith. Trust. Friendship. Love. This novel will stick with me for a long time.

✯✯✯✯✯A MUST READBy Amazon ReaderI don’t remember the last time I had tears rolling down my cheeks from a poignant passage in a novel. An ex-marine friend of mine who worked at an airport in Afghanistan verified the authenticity of these scenes of bringing fallen soldiers home. I felt so honored to share in this beautiful reading experience. We are reminded by Angela Scavone of the ultimate sacrifice that some must give in order for us to live free while sharing a sweet love story of a marriage reunited. There was much love and humor between the couple who needed to learn to trust each other again. At the end, I sighed, with a wonderful, ahhh and slept soundly for the first time all week.

Marie Godley
I live with my husband and two teenagers in Christchurch, Dorset. I have always loved books and this led me into a job as a library assistant aged 17. I read avidly whilst at the library; I’m surprised there were any books for members of the public to borrow. I also rediscovered picture books when I took story time for the under fives.

Moving on and having my own children brought even more books to my attention; I think that there is more variety for children and teenagers these days compared to when I was younger.

When I returned to work, I again took on a library assistant role; this time almost completely setting up a library in a primary school.

I left to concentrate on my family and my writing. When not writing, I am found walking along the beach or in the forest; quite often getting inspiration for my stories, as well as enjoying the scenery.

One More Time is Not Enough by Belle Ami

ONE MORE TIME IS NOT ENOUGHRelease of Book 3 of The Only One series

by

Belle Ami
GENRE: Contemporary Romantic Suspense

Adelia Lindstrom Bremen seems to have it all: wealth, beauty, perfect twin children, two men in love with her, and a career she loves. But, beneath the veneer of success and prosperity lies disappointment, tragedy, and unending lies. Her parents were murdered, her marriage ended in a custody battle, and she is swept up in a love triangle. Now she has discovered the existence of a half-sister who wants nothing to do with her.

Someone is killing scientists that deny man-made climate change, and Adelia is about to find out that putting her life back together and opening herself to love may be the least of her worries. Can she find her true love and survive being the prey of a serial killer? Can the two men who love her rescue her in time? The clock is ticking.

When they returned to the cliff house, it was late. Adelia suggested they take a Jacuzzi and have a nightcap. While David changed into his swimsuit, she ordered a bottle of champagne and fresh strawberries. By the time he finished in the bathroom, she was in the hot tub, immersed in a cloud of steam, sipping champagne and nibbling on fruit.

“Come on, slowpoke, the water feels like heaven.” She eyed David’s muscled body. “The FBI Academy seems to have agreed with you. You’re a treat for the eyes, Agent Weiss.”

David sighed. “What am I going to do with you?” He slipped into the water.

“I don’t know. What are you going to do with me?” she goaded, handing him a glass of champagne.

Enjoying their playful repartee, she placed her feet in his lap. “This is bliss.” The intimacy of the hot tub was having its desired effect, she could feel the sexual tension mounting.

“You know I’m not going to make love to you.”

“Really." She furrowed her brows annoyed. “Why not?”

“Because, Adelia, even all of this”—he spread his arms wide—“can’t make the reality of our lives go away. You have an ex-husband who wants you back, children who’d be better off with both their parents. I can’t compete with that.”

She could sense his goading her into a confrontation. “You’re not going to spoil this perfect evening. I won’t let you.”

“Do you know what it’s going to be like for me, when this is over? Poor David, too bad his girlfriend went back to her husband.”

“It’s not true, you could stop it if you wanted to.”

“We’re fighting destiny, Adelia.”

Doubt plagued her, but it wasn’t within her power to stop what she was feeling. She stood and placed her glass on the side table. With determination, she reached out and took the champagne glass from him. Then, grabbing a strawberry, she sat on his lap, facing him.

He started to protest. “Adelia, stop . . .”

Without a thought, she placed the strawberry seductively between her teeth and brought her lips close to his.

He stared into her eyes. “Please, don’t do this.”

“Why? Don’t you like strawberries?” She could feel his erection beneath her bikini bottom. “Or, is it just me you don’t care for?”

He growled, then bit half of the strawberry off, his lips brushing hers. He tried to pull away, but her arms encircled his neck, and she deepened the kiss.

“If you keep this up . . . you might get more than you bargained for.”

“Is that a threat or a promise?” she whispered, her lips inches from his.

“You’re killing me.”

“Funny, am I the only one here who knows what they want?”

“What I want isn’t in question.”

“Oh, but I think it is. If you were honest with yourself, you wouldn’t pull away. It’s been such a perfect evening. What’s wrong with two people who care for each other, exploring their feelings? I dare you to tell me you don’t want this. That you don’t want me.”

“I’m trying to protect you . . . me . . . both of us . . . from making a mistake.” He smiled. “But you’re not cooperating. I don’t know how much more I can take.”

“Then surrender and let me win. I’m a big girl. If this is a mistake, it’s my mistake.” She pressed her lips on his, her tongue darting against his.

He rose with her in his arms. “I won’t blame you for what’s about to happen. You know how much I want you. I just hope we don’t live to regret it.”

He kissed her with a lust that turned her blood to fire.

“No regrets. I want this. Let’s take a shower,” she teased, kicking her legs playfully in the air.

Wulkin Legacy by T.F. Walsh

WULFKIN LEGACY
Promo tour for book 1 & 2byT.F. Walsh
GENRE: Paranormal Romance

Strong-minded and beautifully complicated, Daciana struggles to leave her wolf pack after she falls in love with a human. But when her friends start turning up dead, she sets on hunting down the monster, convinced her human lover is next in line. When she discovers the danger is coming from within her pack, she must must choose between saving the man she loves and saving her pack family from certain death.

The phone’s strident ringing woke me up, and I glanced over at the bedside clock blazing

5:13 A.M. Too damn early for anything.

Tempted to dive back under the covers, I checked the caller ID: Connell. Crap. The previous night’s events came pouring back: me turning into a wulfkin outside the full moon, running with the pack all night, collecting my keys from the woods, and ditching

Connell again. On top of that, I never retrieved the old books for the elixir. Double crap.

I pushed my legs over the edge of the bed, scrunched the sheet in my fist and answered the call. “Hi.”

“Where are you?” The panic in his voice turned my stomach.

“At home.”

“What happened to you last night?”

My throat dried up as my mind whirred with excuses. “I uncovered something in my research and got stuck into it, not realizing it was past midnight when I checked the clock. I didn’t want to wake you and went straight home. I’m sorry.”

“I suspected you wouldn’t come. Looks like I was right.”

“Come on, Connell, give me a break. I’m working on something majorly important. When you’re on a case and spend nights in the office, I don’t give you shit about it.”

“That’s not what pisses me off. It’s that you never tell me anything. Send me a message if you’re going to be late or not turn up, anything to let me know what’s going on. It feels like you’re only staying with me on until something better comes along.”

“That’s not true. I only want you.”

Silence.

I lowered my head and stared at the dirt beneath my toenails from the previous night’s run.

“I don’t want to talk about this now,” he said. “We found two more bodies this morning. The victims were located on the opposite sides of the city.” He paused. “Why would a wolf bolt across the city after a kill? They attack in packs, don’t they?”

A shiver rippled down my spine. The possibility of two more dracwulf kills made me furious. There was no convincing myself the attacks weren’t related to the others; I felt the truth in my gut. Worse yet, I wondered whether the dracwulf was simply hungry or territorial, and Sandulf had to know. I flopped onto the bed and curled into a ball.

When I gave no response, Connell continued. “I need you to review the reports from the previous attacks today and visit the new scenes to see if you believe it's the same animal.”

I cringed at the innocent wolves who could lose their lives over Sandulf’s stupidity.

“Your team can test the evidence and see if it’s the same predator without me.”

“We have limited testing resources in this country, so we need your expertise to move things along.”

The way he said “your” sounded full of contempt, and it pained me to hear him talk like that.

“The chief wants a hunting party issued this weekend, preferably with Romania’s Animal Research Institute’s approval. He’s already spoken with your boss, Vasile.”

I climbed up and paced the room, shaking my head. Typical Vasile to agree to anything the cops asked.

“If I could leave you out of this, I would, but I can’t. Trust me, I tried.”

“I appreciate that. Where should we meet?”

“Piaţa Sfatului. Half an hour?”

“I can do that.”

He hung up.

A snarl ripped past my throat at the terrible start to the day. Who could blame Connell for being upset? I’d be livid if he kept avoiding me.

I threw on a pair of Levi’s, boots, and a gray hooded top. The bathroom mirror reflected gray wolf eyes from my recent transformation, and already the silvery color was fading into a darker shade. I pulled every strand of my nest-style hair into a ponytail and rushed outside into the morning twilight.

✯✯✯✯✯Wow! An amazing read.By Rowena May O'Sullivan Verified Purchase
This is a fabulous book. I couldn't put it down. Fast, pact, interesting and original. Cloaked in Fur never let up from the first page. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves werewolf books. Set in Romania around the Carpathian Mountains, this book is set in the first person which I love. Daciana is a Moonwulf about to become a full Wulfkin and is searching for the cure to prevent this happening so she and the human Inspector Connell Lonescu who she loves, can be together. But bound by oaths to her wulfkin family and the fact there is a rogue wolf killing her human friends, her life is about to implode. I loved all the characters in this book, and hope to see more of them in the future. An excellent read.

✯✯✯✯✯Awesome book!!! Worth the read....

Well written; very interesting, and a page turner! The kind of book you can read and get lost. I find reading great books to be a release; the prose helps me escape the normal anxieties of the day or night. I have to give this book five out of five stars. Fantasy fiction; werewolves/suspense/thriller/and freaky romance. Well work the read!!! I am going to be keeping my eye on the author: T.F. Walsh. I love her style and look forward to reading more. I would also love to see this book in print.

Death has followed Alena Novac's circus family for years. When the police arrest her brother for a murder he didn't commit, she has only a week to rescue him before he transforms into his wolf form in prison and exposes their wulfkin existence to the world.

Enre Ulf, a former member of the Varlac, the fearsome ruling wulfkin clan, plans to infiltrate Alena's circus clan and take out their alpha to save his home in Transylvania. Except he never expected his wolf to claim the alpha's daughter, Alena, as his mate, or feel compelled to save her brother to help protect the secrets of the wulfkin.

With the police closing in and the blood feud threatening them, Alena and Enre must overcome their pasts to save their packs' futures.

“We’re on the same team here. Shall I carry your carpet?”

She responded with a frown and tucked the rolled-up rug under her arm.

I took that as a no. “Let’s move.” I didn’t wait for her response and slid into the shadow alongside the cobblestone buildings, slinking closer to the station. Faint steps fell into a rhythm behind me.

She brushed past me, turned, and pressed a finger into my chest. “Fine, but try anything, and I’ll rip your heart out. We’re doing this my way. And I’m going first.”

I nodded, resisting the urge to draw her into my arms and kiss those pursed lips. She frowned and continued onward. I followed her. Before we reached the entrance to the police station, Alena sneaked down a side alley and disappeared around the corner into the dark. Closing in from behind, I curved right into the murky passage, my shoulders scraping the brick enclosure. I hurried in an awkward and angled walk-hop, trusting Alena knew where she was going. Against my better judgment, we were about to break into a prison. This was the police we were dealing with. But I doubted I’d have any luck in stopping Alena.

She halted and shifted my way. Within the cloak of the night, I barely distinguished the outline of her body.

“We’ll scale the wall and land in a small courtyard. Stick close. There are cameras, but since it’s only a holding cell, there’s a few spots to hide.”

Looking up, I stared at the circular barbed wire lining the top of the brick wall, and now the carpet made sense. Clever girl.

“Use the spot here.” She tapped the stone barrier. “There are a few broken bricks that should be easy to grab and step on while climbing. Anyway, make yourself useful.” She handed me the carpet, which was starting to unravel.

Her ascent appeared effortless, scaling the wall as quickly as a squirrel dashing up a tree. A tasty squirrel, for that matter. Reaching the top, she stuck her arm toward me. I handed her the carpet, and in slow motion, she placed it on the barbed wire. Testing her device a few times by pushing down on the carpet in several places, she climbed higher and carefully lifted one leg over and then the

Following suit, I used the irregularities in the wall as Alena suggested, but my progress was slower since my thigh quivered each time I pushed myself off it. After two attempts to get my wounded leg over the barbed wire and slicing my jeans near the knee, I took a deep breath and tried again. I clenched my jaw, ignored the pain, and threw my leg onto the other side. Straddling the wall with only an old carpet between barbed wire and my jewels, I slipped my other leg over and hopped down on the other side. The stinging pain of my injury throbbed, and I rode the wave of agony for a few seconds until it eased. Why was I doing this again?

✯✯✯✯✯HOT HOT HOT !!!
By MzIzzyDizzy
Well Done T. F. Walsh! Cloaked in Secrecy is HOT HOT HOT !!! The description of each characters are amazing. The love story between ENRE and ALENA was told so that I cannot get my Kindle out of my hand. I don't usually like that the story is narrated in alternating characters point of view but this time each words draws me in and make me feel each respective characters telling the story. I just wish there is a continuation of DACIANA story in there. More of her point of view while is ENRE is playing with ALENA. I cannot wait for the next CLOAKED series.

✯✯✯✯✯A Great series
By Robin Smith
I really enjoyed unveiling this story. There is plenty of drama, action and romance. Enre goes to check out the intentions of the Bulgaria Pack toward his pack in Transylvania. He left without Daciana's permission or knowledge of his intentions. While helping Alena save her brother from the police he gets shot. Alena and her brother Nicolai are searching for Mila a wulfkin stuck in her wolf form. While on the chase Mila murders a man and Nicolai gets caught with blood on his hands. The police arrest him but danger awaits because the full moon is days away and Nicolai will shift. They must get him out of jail before his shift happens and he reveals the existence of the wulfkin. During this time Alena's wolf has chosen Enre but he is the hated Varlac. Many ups and downs along with twists and turns await Alena and Enre. If you like shifters, intrigue and suspense with your romance grab a copy.

EXCERPT

Even though Glenda’s bedroom was on the lower level of the Falcon apartment, the bloodcurdling scream from the twelfth floor was so loud, it instantly woke her. Fearful that the Sick Puppy had invaded the apartment, she sat bolt upright and switched on her bedside lamp.Thinking only of Dorothy and with scant regard for her own safety, she leaped out of bed and rammed her feet into a pair of furry pink slippers. She glanced around for something to use as a weapon, but the only thing she spotted was a curling tongs. She grabbed it and bolted for the door. There was a security light glowing in the hallway when she emerged from her room. All appeared well on this floor and was deathly quiet. Glenda sprinted up the stairs in a way she had not done since she was fifty and paused at the top, listening for intruders. Silence reigned. Terrified of what she was walking into, she made her way to Dorothy’s bedroom, her feet padding softly on the hardwood floors as she went. She made sure the hall light was fully on, then tapped on the door. Receiving no reply, she pushed it open, her pulse beating so rapidly she was sure she was going to have a heart attack. In the half-light from the hallway, Glenda saw Dorothy sitting upright in bed. Her face was flushed, and sweat was trickling down her forehead. She was silent and her eyes stared sightlessly at the housekeeper. Willing herself to remain calm, Glenda put down the curling tongs and slowly approached her boss, not knowing if she was awake or asleep. She turned on the bedside light and dimmed it to a soft glow. She doublet checked to ensure there was nobody else in the room then scampered into the en-suite. She ran a washcloth under the cold tap, picked up a second one from the clean supply and trotted back to the bedroom. Dorothy had not moved a muscle in her absence. Using the damp cloth, Glenda gently wiped away the rivulets of perspiration, then dried her employer’s face with the spare cloth.‘Everything’s okay now, Boss,’ she said softly, as she wiped. ‘It was only a bad dream.’‘He’s in trouble, Glen,’ Dorothy sounded calm as she replied. ‘They’re trying to kill him.’‘No, no, Boss,’ the housekeeper did her best not to burst into tears. ‘You’re the one who’s in danger. Don’t worry, we’re not going to let anything happen to you. Why don’t you lie down now?’Dorothy obediently lay back on her pillows. Her eyes were wide open and her pupils fully dilated. Glenda was not sure if the other woman even knew she was in the room with her.‘I’m going to sit here until you fall asleep,’ the housekeeper said reassuringly. ‘Close your eyes, Boss. You need your rest. We have a big weekend ahead of us.’The words sounded totally inane to her ears, although they seemed to do the trick. Dorothy moved her hand until it rested on her heart then slowly closed her eyes.‘So much blood,’ she murmured. ‘I think he got away this time, but it was a narrow escape.’‘I’m sure he’s fine,’ Glenda replied helplessly. ‘Try not to think about blood. Think about the lovely new house. Is it true you’re getting a waterbed?’‘A waterbed,’ Dorothy sighed dreamily. ‘Big enough for a basketball team. Wait until you see it, Glen.’‘I can’t wait,’ the housekeeper replied truthfully. ‘Bel mentioned a rotisserie, although I expect she was teasing me. She’s naughty like that.’‘You’re going to love that too,’ Dorothy whispered sleepily. ‘Goodnight, Glen. Sleep well.’‘Goodnight, Boss,’ the housekeeper replied, as she dashed away a tear.Dorothy’s breathing changed and Glenda knew she was asleep. There was a wing-backed chair in the corner of the room. She dragged it closer to the bed and made herself comfortable. ‘I’ll sit here for twenty minutes in case you have another dream,’ she told the sleeping form. Dorothy was blissfully unaware of the worry she was causing the other woman and slept on. This time she dreamed of flying.

About the Author

Ella Carmichael was born in Ireland in the 1960's, but only toyed with writing when she was young. Toyed might be too kind. She goofed about with a pen and paper when she was a child and teenager, but never wrote anything longer than a silly poem. She says, "You really have to fight for your dreams in this life, and I didn't fight for mine. The thought of doing so never even crossed my mind back then."
From the age of 20 she worked in offices, and often used to ask herself if there might be more to life than the daily grind. This is one of the few things that she has in common with Dorothy Lyle, the main character of her series, The Miracles and Millions Saga. Dorothy is cheesed off with the 9-5 life and hopes for more. Little does she realize what's around the corner. Be careful what you wish for!
Ella got the idea for M&M back in 2010. There was lottery fever all over Europe that autumn, yet at the same time there were photographs appearing in the papers that showed hundreds of individuals standing in line for free lunches at the Bow Street mission house in Dublin. It was hard for her to make sense of it all, yet somehow she knew it was important.
She was in a very bad place in her life in 2010, after ending a relationship with a most unsuitable man. Figuring that she had little to lose, she began to write as a form of therapy. Carmicheal tends to be a dabbler by nature, yet when it came to writing she found she was as focused as one of those drones we hear so much about. It took more than thirty years to do it, but she became a writer in the end. Ella hopes any budding authors who are reading this will draw inspiration from that. It's never to late to give it your best shot.
Once the die was cast, characters literally began to materialize in front of her. The strongest back then was Dorothy, although it certainly didn't stop with her. The Maddox character appeared over her bed one morning in a cloud of dry white ice. In the earlier drafts, Jack was very much the iceman, but Ella decided to soften him up and make him fall madly in love. Just because. It progressed from there. More and more characters began to show up and soon she had a series on her hands instead of just one book.
Publishers and agents aren't interested in a series unless the writer follows a number of very strict criteria. Carmichael has broken those rules. Her books are best read in order. The story progresses in each one, and spans the two year period between January 2011 and December 2012.
Once she understood that no publisher would touch her, she decided to go it alone. She felt she was too old to sit around and wait for a letter that will never drop onto the doormat. She signed up with KDP and uploaded every completed manuscript. At the time of writing this bio she has not yet uploaded Book 10. She is struggling to let it go...

Nova Ladies Adventures by Alathia Paris Morgan

NOVA LADIES ADVENTURES
Promo tour for book 1 & 2byAlathia Paris Morgan
GENRE: Mystery/Suspense

Makeup, murder and mystery are the special ingredients causing Allie to become entangled in a dangerous situation possibly leading to the love of her life.

Witness protection was supposed to be safe, but when a dirty cop starts stalking her, Allie's day takes a turn for the worst. When she goes to deliver her friend's beauty products only to find her door hanging on its hinges... and a trail of blood leading to a body. Is she dead?

“Did you want another beer?” Hearing her voice at his elbow saved Justin from searching the room for her.

“Yeah, thanks.” Justin wasn’t sure how to start up a conversation with her.

“What’s your name, ma’am?”

“Allie. Oh, the girl you were hanging out with said to give you a message if you ever came out from hiding in the bathroom.” She winked at him.

Allie was well acquainted with his type, good looking and charming until the next morning when they had what they wanted and didn’t need the girl anymore.

“She said, ‘She hoped you could find the right type of girl to take care of you. God only knows what kind of girl that could be. Someone to ride in and knock you off the black stallion you are so proud of.’” Allie started to move away, when Justin spoke.

“She was mad I wouldn’t take her out on a date. I couldn’t because we had nothing in common. She just wanted to be seen with me so others would like her as well.” Justin grimaced as he realized, Allie would never go out with him now.

Ugh! Way to go. Justin mentally slapped himself. Put another girl down and she will want to date you. Smooth man.

“Well, don’t feel too bad. She just needs to take the stick out of her butt, but that’s just my opinion. You can’t force someone to like you, it’s either there or it’s not. Here’s your beer on me.” Allie pulled some money from her apron and placed it in the register, moving on to another customer.

Allie glanced at the guy again, he seemed nice. Obviously the girl’s perfect body wasn’t this guy’s dream. Although, she is gorgeous and built, but who knows why he wasn’t interested. Oh well not my problem.

Trying not to stare at her was more difficult than Justin thought it would be as the night continued on without her returning to his end of the bar.

The other girl replaced Justin’s beer, “Last call dude. By the way, Allie isn’t really the type to pick up someone at her work. Better luck next time.” She remarked with a smile.

Beginning to feel like a stalker, Justin took the hint and got up to leave. Placing a few extra dollars in the tip jar, he went outside and leaned against the wall.

Trying to think of a plausible excuse to ask her out, he just kept repeating his part in that horrible conversation with her.

Not realizing the parking lot was clearing out, Justin was lost in thought when the bouncer, Stan walked Allie out to her car making sure she was inside before turning to find Justin standing there.

“You need to go home or I can call the cops. Which option do you want Bub?” Stan was a large man and he blocked Justin’s view of Allie when he placed his hands on his hips.

“Oh, sorry. Got lost in thought, I’ll head home now. Didn’t mean any harm.” Justin started toward his car, but stopped when both men turned toward the muffled cry.

Allie’s car revved up and slammed straight into the dumpster.

I truly enjoyed this story that grabbed you from the beginning. It gives you a sense of what women go through in regards to domestic violence. With this story, you get involved so much that you really want to kick the villain in the you-know-where. This is not a subject that many authors will address in a romantic suspense story as it is categorized as. Well done and I will be reading more by this author.

Surviving an abusive husband, Megan starts fresh with her daughter Sally hoping that her future will be better than her past. Offering to clean out an old cabin on the ranch, Megan uncovers a murder that has gone unsolved for 25 years. Clues in an old journal, missing money, and blackmail are reasons for poisoning Megan, but will it keep the past from being uncovered?

Megan has fallen hard for the attractive lawyer who helped her escape. Mark is not only patient, but handsome as well. Uncertain that Mark can deal with her self-confidence issues, she withdraws from those who love her. When Mark walks away leaving Megan and Sally vulnerable to the attentions of a killer, will his love for her overcome their problems in time to save her from Death by Poison?

Walking in the front room, Megan was startled to find all of the boxes she had placed as a barricade had been moved and stacked neatly on the couch next to the doorway.

I’m sure that I put those boxes in front of the door. It looks like they are right back where I moved them from. How did that happen?

Oh, no. Now, I’m the one doing the hallucinating.

Snap! That means that someone was in here while I was in the back room.

Feeling nervous, Megan ran back to the room and saw that none of the journals had been moved.

Quickly placing the shoe boxes full of journals in one big box, she then laid the wedding dress and veil over the top of the box as she carried it to each room. She wasn’t willing to let it out of her sight while she closed the windows and locked the doors.

Certain that someone was trying to mess with her, she locked the front door and went to the golf cart. Putting the box on the seat beside her, she raced around to the driver’s seat only to find the front tire was flat.

“Oh great, now the tire’s flat.” Kicking the tire didn’t make her feel better, but comprehension slowly sank in, there was a reason her tire might be flat. “Oh, crapola, this is so not good.” Glancing around she didn’t notice anyone, but if they were watching her, she doubted if they would be out in the open.

Megan tried calling G.G. with her cell phone, but had no signal. Going back in the house to use the phone would be the best choice, but if someone wanted her stranded then they could have cut the wires to the phone. She didn’t want to waste any time getting to safety.

-------------
The shadowed figure watched Megan run away from the house. Knowing that she was cleaning the cabin out was not a problem in and of itself, but if she discovered anything that Anne had written about him, then she would have to die as well. Time would tell if Megan had signed her own death sentence or if she would be allowed to live.

I loved this book! Alathia just gets better and this book is hard to put down. This is the second book in the NOVA series and was even better than the first. I usually figure out who the bad guy is way before the end, but not so with this book. I was on the edge of my seat and biting my nails! Can't wait for the next one!

Alathia is known to those around her for having an a long time love affair/obsession with Dr.Pepper, she has asked to be buried with a can so that it never runs out in the after life. Always bossy, she uses her mothering instincts to help others and share awareness of abuse in child and domestic situations.

A B.S. in History and English gave wings to her vivid imagination in book form. A supportive and loving husband has given her the chance to make her dreams a reality. Their three daughters and three dogs keep her busy while writing is a great way for her to wind down and destress.
