Jayson James Interview

Hi, everyone! Today Will Green is taking over Words, Words, Words for an interview with Jayson James. Check it out!

_______________________________

Will Green: Tell us about your books that you have available.

Jayson James: I’ll start with “T.E.D.” my newest release. This book is about three guys Tim, Eric and Delsin, whose lives are intertwined as they each face their own struggles. The story takes place around entries Tim made in his journal while Eric and Delsin provide the back-story of the events taking place.

6622477

My other three books chronicle the lives of Derrick Wilson and Justin Parker, two best friends who find out essentially being more than friends was what their lives were missing.

“Finding Our Way” is about after one night of drinking and going too far these two friends, Derrick and Justin become aware of their own sexuality.

Finding

“Tormented Discovery” explores Derrick and Justin being who they are and how others around them handle it. The readers get to read more about Hayden and get a closer look at his and Ryan’s relationship.

Tormented

“Drifting” focuses on what happens in a relationship when one loves someone but is questioning whether they both are in love anymore. This time readers get to read from Ryan’s perspective and what is going on in this shy guy’s head.

Drifting

Although the books take place chronologically one after another, I wrote each of them as a stand-alone book. My readers started calling the books the “Finding Our Way Series” and the name stuck. After many requests, I released the books together in a series collection.

I also have a few published novellas. “Summer Escape” is about two friends who on a weekend away decide to live by their own rules. I thought it would be a good way for new readers to sample my writing. “Far & Away” is about two guys who meet online, fall in love and realize life is too short to stay apart.

Will Green: What can you tell us about your next project?

Jayson James: After a few failed attempts, I have finally gotten back to writing a book I have titled “Pieces of Us.” When completed, this will be only my second novel to have a title from the beginning of writing it. It is about a guy and girl who are best friends in high school, growing and learning about themselves and others. I’m quite excited about this novel, being it will be different in several ways from my previous published works.

Will Green: Where do you get the information for your book(s)?

Jayson James: Someone once said, “Write what you know.” Although I have never remembered who it was, this is something that has always stuck in my head when it comes to writing something I wanted to share with others. Of course, I have always wanted to write a book where the main character is a killer and have not, which I believe this idea has limited me.

Will Green: What was the most surprising thing you’ve learned since you started writing?

Jayson James: That there are people out there that enjoy my writing. I was the most surprised at how five of my closest friends love reading what I have written. Also with writing, there is always room to grow. I am always amazed at how much I improve the more I write.

Will Green: How long does it take you to write a book?

Jayson James: Three to six months on average.

Will Green: Who or What inspires you to write?

Jayson James: Friends, family and living life.

Will Green: What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?

Jayson James: I have to have either the right movie or music playing in the background. There have been times when I am trying to write something and the mood of the noise around me has not been right. I’ve forced it and then been quite disappointed with the outcome.

Will Green: What book are you reading right now?

Jayson James: “Wide Asleep” by Nick Nolan. He sent me an advanced copy of his book, which is something no one has ever done before. I am still excited about it. Due to some eye problems, I have not been able to read it as much as I like. From what I have read so far, once again Nick has another hit with me. My Kindle always has a few books that I am planning on reading, such as “Game of Thrones,” which I made it through the first three books and have had the last two waiting for me to take the time to read them.

Will Green: Who is your favorite author and why?

Jayson James: This has always been a tough question for me. I suppose it depends on my mood. So let me name a few that come to mind. Nick Nolan writes realistic characters and has such a depth in his stories. He is one of the smartest people I have ever met, yet down-to-earth and real. He writes about people that I feel either as if I know or I want to know or even be. Jay Bell also writes some great characters that I always find myself adoring. His books always grab ahold of me and make me cry several times throughout reading them. James Patterson, especially his Alex Cross Series I have always enjoyed. His chapters are so short, I always get a feeling of accomplishment as I read and every time I think I’m growing tired of his work, he puts out something that grabs me right back in. Stephen King I have to mention as well. Over the last few years, I have read through some of his “bigger” books in a small amount of time and have truly enjoyed them. He goes into too much detail at times for me, but he typically has a way of keeping me reading and turning the pages.

Will Green: What kind of music do you listen to and why?

Jayson James: I like a variety of music ranging from modern, musicals and 80’s. Pretty much anything upbeat is what I am drawn towards, especially if it is something I can sing along with. Sometimes I will listen to the same song over and over again. When I’m writing I often have a playlist of 10-12 songs I will listen to through the duration of the writing project. Other times I will hear a song that invokes emotion in me and helps keep me in a particular state of mind.

Will Green: What do you watch on TV and why?

Jayson James: I generally watch TV twice a week, being I do not like to have it take up what I already feel is a limited amount of time. Some shows I that I enjoy watching are “The Walking Dead” and “Shameless”, both being they are entertaining and I can find myself relating or thinking about what I would do if I were in the situations they find themselves in.

Will Green: What kind of advice could you give an aspiring writer?

Jayson James: Do it! Find people who will support you and be honest with you. Be willing to take constructive criticism and grow from it. Do not get discouraged. Those who support and like your writing, value these relationships.

MEDIA KIT Banished Love Book Cover

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Free-Spirited…
Clarissa Sullivan dreams for more from life than sipping tepid tea in stifling parlors in Victorian Boston. She defies her family’s wishes, continuing to teach poor immigrant children in Boston’s West End, finding a much-needed purpose to her life.
Radical…
As a suffragette, Clarissa is considered a firebrand radical no man would desire. For why should women want the vote when men have sheltered women from the distasteful aspects of politics and law?
Determined…
When love blossoms between Clarissa and Gabriel McLeod, a struggling cabinetmaker, her family objects. Clarissa’s love and determination will be tested as she faces class prejudices, manipulative family members and social convention in order to live the life she desires with the man she loves.
Will she succeed? Or will she yield to expectations?
BANISHED LOVE follows Clarissa Sullivan on her journey of self-discovery as she learns what she cannot live without.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Excerpt:

“You’ve known my beliefs for some time,” I croaked out.

“A schoolgirl’s idealism,” she snapped. “Nothing to be acted on.”

Mrs. Chickering cleared her throat, as though to remind Mrs. Smythe she remained present. “I think it takes a tremendous strength of character to have beliefs and then actually act on them,” she said with her own fervor. “I would hate for women to lock away their desires for a better world once they leave school or marry. They, as women, have lives, have hopes and dreams for the future, independent of what a man might want.”

“How dare you come into my house and tell me that what I have is not sufficient?” Mrs. Smythe gasped.

“I am saying no such thing, Mrs. Sullivan,” Mrs. Chickering replied. “I believe you need to understand that your stepdaughter has beliefs and aspirations that are different from yours.”

“Aspirations that include the vote?” Mrs. Smythe scoffed. “Men have voted in the past, they will continue to vote, and I have no desire of it. I feel as my husband does on all things to do with politics, so it would only be giving the same politician two votes rather than one. There’s no purpose to women having the vote.” Her eyes flashed, true enmity in their depths as she glared at Mrs. Chickering. “And didn’t we women of Massachusetts show you suffragettes we didn’t want the vote in’95? No one voted for women to become enfranchised then, and they won’t now.” She sighed loudly, as though trying to calm herself.

“An aspiration for independence?” Mrs. Smythe continued, unable to stop speaking. “Are you telling me that someday it should be lauded, hoped for, that young women become independent and have no need for marriage? No need for children? How could that ever be a hoped-for future? You and your group want too much for women. Women should focus on their home, on creating a moral, upstanding environment in which to raise children. She will want for nothing if she has such a home,” Mrs. Smythe argued.

“So I suppose women should remain tied to the kitchen stove with children at their ankles, and a husband who might, or might not, come home with a paycheck as their only recourse?” Mrs. Chickering countered. “Relying on the benevolence of men to write laws and enforce them without women having any involvement in the legislative process? Sitting at home knitting, hoping that men will ensure that our rights are protected? That is all you envision for women? Nothing more?”

“It has been enough for generations. I do not know why it should need to change now,” Mrs. Smythe snapped, banging down her teacup with such force I thought she might crack it.

“Was that enough for you in your first marriage, Mrs. Sullivan?” Mrs. Chickering asked, pinning her with an intense gaze.

Dating is hard
Single mom Maggie Hayes puts up a tough front to hide her loneliness, spending her days in the courtroom as a lawyer and her evenings as a closet video gamer. Another heartache isn’t worth the risk, not after her husband left her last year for a Hooters waitress. When she decides to try dating again, a cute video game-designing nerd seems like a safe bet….Until he becomes the prime suspect in a murder.
But falling in love can be murder
Jeremy Rogers makes a good living designing video games, but nothing prepares him for the real world adventure of being accused of poisoning his own employee. Add in falling for a sassy attorney with a competitive ex-husband, a clingy blonde coworker, and a mammoth-size dog that eats his furniture. Suddenly fighting off a screen full of zombies or preventing an alien invasion seems like child’s play.

Game over!
Maggie and Jeremy find themselves embroiled in a game of death threats, lies, and betrayal. Maggie must learn to trust again while playing the most dangerous game of all. Because defeat could mean not only losing her heart, but also her life…

Revisit the quaint Colorado town of Pleasant Valley and sit in with the Page Turners Book Club, a group of book-loving women who double as extremely amateur detectives. Join them as they set out to help their friend, while devouring good literature and some really great desserts.

“Hey, gals,” Maggie said on a rush of air as Edna threw her arms around her in a theatrical embrace. Maggie gave her a quick squeeze, the smell of lavender and vanilla filling the air as she nestled her chin in the cloud of Edna’s silver curls. Mabel reached out and squeezed Maggie’s hand.
Jeremy seemed to be pleased by the appearance of the two geriatric Nancy Drews, but Maggie’s eyes narrowed with suspicion at Edna. “It’s amazing how you always seem to be in the middle of whatever excitement is going on.”
Edna shrugged and gave her a look of mock innocence. “You know me, honey, if there’s a pile of trouble somewhere, I’ll find a way to step in it.”
Mabel cackled at Edna’s joke, then her laugh turned into a phlegmy smoker’s cough, and Edna turned to slap her on the back. “You’ve got to give up those cancer sticks,” she said in between slaps.
“Ahh, bite me,” wheezed Mabel. “I’m gonna die anyway.”
Ignoring the drama of the elderly women, Maggie pulled on Edna’s sleeve. “Who is that guy you were talking to? And what did you find out?” Regardless of her knack for finding trouble, Edna was good at ferreting out information and could usually be counted on to know the inside scoop.
“Do they know what happened to Jim?” Jeremy absently rubbed his tiny grandmother’s back, used to her frequent coughing fits.
Edna whipped out her notebook, holding it within inches of her nose. “Well, I haven’t had a chance to gather too much information, since we just got here and they won’t let us too close to the crime scene. I’m sure they’re dusting for prints and gathering DNA evidence. The evidence always tells the true story, you know.”
“OMG,” Maggie said, mimicking one of her son’s favorite terms. She tried to control her eyes from rolling into the back of her head as she listened to Edna’s CSI-esque interpretation of the scene. “What do you actually know?”
Edna huffed and lowered her voice. “Well, we know a man was murdered here.”
“Oh my gosh. You think? Maybe you should open your own ladies’ detective agency.”

Chemical Reaction – March 11th Interview

Thank you for hosting me on my Chemical Reaction Book Tour. I’m excited to join you today. ~ Christina

1) What do you write about? Tell us a little about your previously published works.

I’m a science nerd who loves romance and thrillers, so I thought why not combine all three. The Chemical Attraction Series explores sinister scientific research and the intense chemistry of love and lust.

2) Tell us a little about your work in progress.

I’ve just finished tweaking the third book in The Chemical Attraction Series, Their Rigid Rules. This romantic adventure about Joe’s sister Taylor and her now husband, Stuart, is the prequel to the first two. I wrote it years ago as a short story. As a secondary character, Joe had his own story to tell. He stayed in my head until I wrote Chemical Attraction and Chemical Reaction. I love the deep connection that Joe, Eva, and Taylor have.

3) What is your personal writing process?

I’m all about structure. First, I research, then I outline the full story with the main scenes. What fascinates me still is the process of actually writing the story…the characters guiding me in different directions I hadn’t seen before. I’m always excited to see what happens next. It’s intoxicating. I hope I’m not the only one who thinks that way.

4) What book are you reading now?

The Nestorian Alliance (A Jack Trader Adventure) by Michael R. Watson

5) What inspired you to write your first book?

The series started out as busy work. My children were grown, and I worked part-time. I had an idea about a hero and heroine, who were confident in their careers, yet vulnerable in their relationships. I needed to put it on paper. I wanted these characters to feel the chemistry of love and lust. I think we all search for that special connection with someone. What happens when we find it? Do we cherish it or take it for granted? This series delves into the physical sciences, the emotional workings of our mind and heart, and the spiritual energy that taps into our passions.

6) What book has influenced your life the most?

Ted Kaptchuk’s The Web That Has No Weaver expanded my narrow view of the Universe.

7) If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

No, not at all. I’m proud of the series.

8) What do you find particularly challenging about writing?

I embrace the challenges of researching, outlining, writing, and editing. However, the biggest hurdle is not succumbing to my distractions: the mountain of dirty laundry, the dinner menu, the husband…well, him I don’t mind…

9) If there was a message you could send to everybody who reads your books, what would it be?

“With all of the books available out there, thank you for choosing mine for a time.”

10) Where can readers find you and your work?

Chemical Reaction Excerpt

Joe trekked to his car and drove to his apartment. He carried all of the gifts bags, her stuffed Saint Bernard, her suitcase, and his duffle bag to the elevator. He met the head of maintenance as he stepped onto the third floor. Too tired to confront him about opening his apartment to Victoria with¬out his consent, he silently let himself inside and dropped everything in the middle of the room.

He loved his home. His sisters had helped decorate it. He and his brother-in-law, Stuart, hung out and played video games. But tonight, his apartment was an empty shell. He understood why Madeline hadn’t stayed. To have her find a woman in his bed was not how he wanted to start their new life together. Would they have a life together?

In the bathroom, he scrubbed Madeline’s ring and necklace with a spare toothbrush until every bit of soot had been removed. After a shower, he slipped the ring onto the necklace and then put it around his neck hoping to feel her energy. He felt despair. His or hers?

Opening the bedroom door, he saw the unmade bed and a red stiletto on the floor by his blinking answering machine. With a groaning shout, he ripped the comforter, sheets, and mattress pad off the bed and threw them into a pile. Not car¬ing who had left messages, he flung the machine across the room. It hit the wall and shattered. Sitting on the naked mat¬tress, he bent over and rubbed his eyes in frustration.

Was this payback for his past transgressions? As a player over the years, he had hurt many women. Now, all of their pain, hate, and sorrow hit him in the chest with such a profound force he had to gasp for a breath. Bitter anguish gnawed at his heart as he thought about ruining the only re¬lationship he wanted, needed, craved, and may never have. Without her in his life, he didn’t think he could recover. He wasn’t sure he wanted to. Joe slid to the floor and cried.

Cover Reveal: Night Moves by Kristen Strassel

Title: Night Moves

Author: Kristen Strassel

Series: Night Songs Collection Series (#2)

Genre: NA Paranormal Romance

Publisher: Foreword Literary

Blurb/Synopsis:

Melanie Vaughn’s job ruined everything. Her social life, nonexistent. Her relationship with her boyfriend, a hostile roommate situation. She resolves to fix everything one snowy afternoon, but instead comes home to discover her boyfriend is already exploring other options. Blonder, bustier options. Rage drives Melanie to do the unthinkable.

When Soul Divider was on the top of the world, so was Ryder Maddox. When the band faded into obscurity, Ryder’s luck plummeted with it. In a last ditch effort to rekindle the band’s heyday, Soul Divider teams up with powerful vampire clean leader, Talis de Rancourt. In return for her services, the band pays the ultimate price for never ending fame.

Now on the run, Melanie meets Ryder in a middle of nowhere hotel. She never expected her teenage rock star crush to be as lost and as in need of a companion as she is. Their connection is all consuming, even before they find they share another kinship: murder.

The newly turned vampires in Soul Divider still have a lot to learn. The police and public begin to connect the girls that go missing or die in sync with the band’s tour schedule. Back at home, clues are also adding up against Melanie as well. Between constant media coverage and unrelenting attention from the authorities, Melanie and Ryder find themselves in unchartered territory.

Kristen shares a birthday with Steven Tyler and Diana Ross.  She spends each day striving to be half as fabulous as they are.  She’s worn many hats, none as flattering as her cowboy hat: banker, retail manager, fledgling web designer, world’s worst cocktail waitress, panty slinger, now makeup artist and aspiring author.  She loves sunshine, live music, the middle of nowhere, and finding new things to put in her house.  Kristen is represented by Pam van Hylckama Vlieg of Foreword Literary.
