Look Back on Love Letter

Hello Poetteers,

Violet inspired me to do this. Earlier this year we were in the Love-a-thon blog hop and wrote a letter to ourselves. Here we are towards the end of the year. You can read my letter here. She was looking back on hers and decided to do the same.

I felt loved with how I addressed myself. Habibti, my love, my darling.

I'm moving along with life. Since the letter I made new friends, reunited with old friends. They are all considered my sisters. I go out more. I still feel like I need to do more. I need to make more of an effort to hangout with friends.

Since the letter I went through one of the biggest hurdles in life. It made me appreciate my friends and let them know that. Keep the effort to be in touch. I'm more accepting of who I am with being an introvert. I'm loving myself. And even more loving as I conquer my fears.

A couple specific things I mentioned are my books. They are slowly but surely being known. But I know my poems are being loved. Another thing is my job. I left it. I feel better.

I have enough love from my family and friends, my writing, I don't need to worry about a love life.

I haven't traveled much but I have plans. The world is waiting.

Love, Fida

P.S. Thank you again to Katelyn and Alexa for doing this!

A cramp stabbing my ribs brought me back to the Here and Now. I was late, and last day or not, Dr. Green would fuss.

“My assistants must be punctual,” he’d say. “It’s difficult being the only vet in a farming community.”

I exhaled slowly as a bead of sweat tickled a path down the middle of my back, and I tried to keep the dirt out of my Keds.

Back when the 911 service came through, most of these roads got numbers or real names besides “Shortcut to the Creek” or “Road Where the Broke-down House Used to Be.” But there were still a few like this one, “Old School Road,” that you only knew what to do with if you grew up in our little town of less than a thousand people. It didn’t matter, though. Strangers never stopped in Dabb Creek.

That should’ve been my first warning.

If I hadn’t been so focused on being late, I might’ve paid more attention to the strange man standing on the shoulder looking lost. Bad manners or not, I didn’t have time to give directions or to explain how far it was back to town.

It wasn’t until I was up on him that I realized he was watching me, studying the pace of my feet. Then I saw the body on the ground.

I skipped like a rabbit to the other side of the road, a scream forming in my mouth, but another man sprung up behind me. A rough cloth clamped over my mouth, and in two breaths, everything went dark.

Exclusive Excerpt – Learning to Spy (Behind the Stars #2)

The guards moved among us, placing dentist-office Dixie cups of what looked like water in front of everyone. A separate guard came to where I sat on the floor, clutching my knees. She lightly took my arm.

“Please return to the table.” Her voice was smooth. “You’ve had a shock. Have some water.”

I wasn’t about to drink anything they gave us. It was Day One all over again, only this time, it was Guyana. We were all being served the Kool-Aid. Next stop, mass graves.

Stupidly, my friends and fellow prisoners had no such qualms. Didn’t anybody watch the History channel? I stared as they all took shaky sips without hesitation.

“Just take a small sip.” The female guard was still with me. “It’ll calm you.”

My throat constricted. My whole body was on revolt. Shaking my head, I didn’t meet her eyes. I only stared at the white cup of water. Braxton was at my side, and he drained his. What the hell made him do that? Did he want to die?

Seconds ticked past and nothing happened. Nobody passed out. Nobody did anything strange—except forget what we’d just witnessed here. Braxton picked up his fork to finish his lunch. They all did. Like one of us had not just been taken out “swiftly and finally.”

Only he had, and I was reeling from the shock.

NaPoWriMo Day 8

Hello readers,

My mind is blind
to the world around me

The sun trapped at the window
soon it will reach me
soon the veil is lifted
and I can see again.

Love, Fida

P.S. It's double up day at NaNoWriMo! Double up on chocolate, on coffee, on books: #Poetteers, but most importantly... word count!

It would be great if you could support me in helping me fundraise for NaNoWriMo.

Thank you!

NaPoWriMo Day 7

Hello readers,

When I'm tired
I'm compelled to stay in bed
but also compelled to stay awake
and go on with my day

When I'm feeling myself
I'm compelled
to write poetry
to find the peace and love
in and around me.

Love, Fida

This is my fundraising page for NaNoWriMo. If you are able to support me I may write you a personalized poem.

Talking about poems, I have three collections published: #Poetteers.

What's up Wed: Nov Edition

Hello readers,

What I'm Reading

Last month I told you I read THE EVOLUTION OF EMILY. It comes out on the 18th and thought I should share my review!

The Evolution of Emily The Evolution of Emily by Kate Scott

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Just within the first chapter I'm already loving Emily and her want for more. I can tell she's a brave lady. It feels good to read about a quiet main character. There isn't many of them in YA fiction. Her writing style is reflected.

I felt as though that Olivia was the main character, as well. And how could I forget Sam (from the first book)? It was great to be able to catch up with her on her life after the book.

What I'm Writing

I am participating in NaNoWriMo ! My tip is to have an outline. It can be a full one or a one sentence pitch. I have one idea for each day.

You are wondering what if the character ends up writing her own story? That it goes a different direction? So be it. I can still put the idea if the day in. I can make it connect, work... right? We need that word count!

Also, plan your time!

Love, Fida

NaPoWriMo Day 4

I may not be a superhero
but I will be your hero
or at least try

all these songs
talking about it
stuck it my head

Like another fairytale
unreachable.

NaPoWriMo Day 3

Hello readers,

I'm under a blanket of sadness
so I blanket my feelings
it's all so heavy
all too much
I want to take the blankets off
but I'm scared of the cold I'll get

Love, Fida

NaPoWriMo Day 2

Hello readers,

Together again
my sadness and I
never separate

Together again
I don't know what to do with you
I try to ignore you
manage you

Together again
to share our love.

Love, Fida

NaPoWriMo Day 1

Hello readers,

It's game over today
I don't know about tomorrow
or the day after that
maybe it will be another game over
or it won't be another game over
I still will play again

I will find my strength
stand on firm ground
or not so firm
I will roll up my sleeves
and fight all night

I will fight until it stops
saying game over for my happiness
I will play again
until my happiness is back

This sad feeling
It will soon be over.

Love, Fida
