1.      Tell me a little bit about yourself and your background?

I am a Pilates and yoga enthusiast, a book lover, and a mom of two. I’m passionate about sparking children’s curiosity for movement and helping parents and caregivers introduce joyful, everyday activities into their kids’ lives.

I was born and raised in Bulgaria and came to New York for undergrad and MBA. I have a corporate job, but always carve out time for creative ventures! 

2. What have you written and what sparked the idea for your book? Who or what inspired you to create it?

My love for children, books and movement led me to a creative venture, my first ever children’s book “It’s Not Pilates!” I became a new mom during the pandemic and found myself thinking about how to build a community around movement. When a friend suggested how fun it would be to explore Pilates for kids, it was like a lightbulb went off. I wrote the story in 2021 without any plans to publish it. Then I came across the portfolio of the very talented illustrator Stefana Argirova, and I knew it was time to bring the book to life.

3. Can you give us an insight of your characters? Any sequel?

It’s Not Pilates! is a playful story about a sports loving girl who wants to teach a Pilates class for animals. When no one shows up, she takes matters into her own hands! The book is light, fun, and is sure to make little readers laugh while trying new movements.

My daughter Andrea is the inspiration behind the book, she is also its main character – spunky, mischievous and determined. And what a better place to practice mindful movement than nature with all its curious creatures! I am already working on the sequel, stay tuned! 

4. What’s the most surprising thing you learned while writing your book/s?

I learned that when you have an idea and you keep feeding it, the idea will take a life on its own and will take you places. 

5. Where can people find your book/s?

“It’s Not Pilates!” is available on Amazon worldwide, as well as at any bookstore with online ordering. 

I have an Instagram account, where I share knowledge about Pilates and yoga for kids and how parents can get their kids to move and wiggle and have fun.

A Magical Day at School! – “Lily and The Christmas Elf”

Today was a truly magical day! I had the honor of visiting my daughter’s class for their “Flannel Day” as part of their Holiday Spirit Week. I dressed up in my best flannel shirt and brought along our Christmas book, “Lily and The Christmas Elf.”

Before I started reading, there was a little surprise waiting for us! Chippy, the mischievous elf from the book, had somehow sneaked into my daughter’s backpack! He even left a special “magical Elf glove” with a note that read: “You can carry me around for just one day, anything more and the magic will go away!“

The class also has their own Elf on the Shelf named Elizabeth, and she was ready for some holiday fun too! Chippy and Elizabeth spent the morning exchanging ideas for pranks and mischief, much to the delight of the children.

My daughter, along with her three wonderful friends Darius, Sara, and Amar (who are also featured in the book!), read their parts to the class. Everyone laughed and had fun learning about Chippy’s hilarious antics at Lily and Nora’s house. They especially loved the part where Chippy turned the Christmas tree into a Santa face!

The children also loved seeing their teacher, Ms. Georgia, featured in the book.

To add to the fun, we had two “Elf-selfie” boards set up, and the children took turns posing with Chippy and Elizabeth. We also had a drawing contest and some fun holiday activity pages prepared for them. One of the activities was a secret message from Chippy about Santa. The children had to decode the words to find out what Chippy had written: “He knows if you’ve been bad or good!”

At the end of the reading, we gave away a copy of “Lily and The Christmas Elf“ to a sweet little girl whose drawing was so beautiful and Christmas-inspired.

It was truly a heartwarming experience to share my book with the children and see their imaginations ignite.

1.      Tell me a little bit about yourself and your background?

I’m an indie author who writes primarily in the fantasy/urban fantasy genre. I’m also a mother of four juggling a full-time job and a chaotic household with my stay-at-home husband. To top it off, we have a dog and two cats, so it is indeed, messy and noisy at times. 

2. Why do you write and what is your inspiration?
The Adventures of Tree Fairy is my very first publication. It’s a children’s book, suitable for early readers and is also perfect for parents wanting to read bedtime stories for their pre-school kids. This book started out as a series of 7 stories which I came up with pretty much on the go, and told to my own children while we were cooped up indoors due to the pandemic back in 2020. Through those lockdown days, I must have told these 7 stories dozens of times. Eventually, I wrote them down into a notebook, and a friend encouraged me to bring my stories to life in the form of a book (which, unlike a single notebook, wouldn’t get lost in my messy, chaotic household). So she put me in touch with an illustrator, and that was it! The unique thing about each story is that it comes with a lesson that will be useful for parents who want to engage with their children, such as learning to say “please”, and helping out those in need.

3. Can you give us an insight of your characters? Any sequel?
The main character in this book is Tree Fairy. She’s a really kind person and doesn’t mind going the extra mile to help someone or extend a hand of friendship. At the moment, because I’m really focused on writing my fantasy/urban fantasy books, there isn’t a sequel. My kids aren’t too happy about that since Mummy is so busy writing about epic battles and vampires instead, but never say never!

4. What have you learned from writing children’s books?
The most surprising thing I learned while writing my books is that there is always room to learn and grow. Since I first started publishing at the end of 2021, I never thought I’d learn the things I have about the craft of writing, even reading, and also publishing. And the learning is not yet done! The other meaningful thing is how much I needed a community of fellow authors. It’s been wonderful connecting with other authors to support each other along this wild rollercoaster ride of writing and publishing. Writing these books has made me appreciate the small, everyday joys a lot more.

Hi there! I’m Maya Nixon from Sydney, Australia.

I’m a mother of two kids, a children’s book author, and a parenting blogger.

2. Why do you write and what is your inspiration?
I’ve written a bunch of kids’ books. 

What got me started? My children! They are my inspiration. They’re always full of surprises and have such cool ways of looking at the world. 
They’re the main reason I started writing – to put their fun adventures and imaginations into stories.

3. Can you give us an insight of your characters? Any sequel?
The characters in my books are a lot like real kids – they’re curious and love going on adventures. What makes them special is they find excitement in everyday things. And about a sequel? I’m thinking about it. There might be more fun stories on the way.

4. What have you learned from writing children’s books?
The biggest surprise for me has been seeing how kids think. It’s so different from adults! They have this amazing way of turning simple things into something exciting.

Writing these books has made me appreciate the small, everyday joys a lot more.
