...Sneak Peek Sunday - The Dawson Brides...
Sneak Peek Sunday again brings a 6 paragraph snippet of my newly finished first draft of The Dawson Brides, book one of a series of Paranormal/Western Historic Romances that tell the stories of three brothers, all cowboys and all werewolves, and the adventures that come with mail ordering a bride into the wild west.
In this snippet, Kristina is just realizing something is a little different about the man whose mail ordered her from a sticky situation in turn of the century Chicago.

She spun on her heal and bolted for the door. I was to her before she even left the barn and grabbed her elbow. Her terrified scream had me hunched in pain with my hands over my ears, and she fell backwards onto her backside with a thud. A dirt explosion filled the air and she coughed as she scrambled further away from me.“How’d you do that?” The whites of her eyes shone all around what looked to be cornflower blue colored irises.I cursed softly. I hadn’t meant to frighten the danged woman. I just didn’t know my own speed sometimes. “Stop running,” I growled. How could a woman so frustrating make me feel like a monster? I hadn’t felt like that in years. I grabbed her ankle and she sucked in breath to scream again. My ringing ears couldn’t take another helping of terrified woman. I put a hand over her mouth and pressed my weight against her. She chugged breath through her delicately flared nostrils like a racehorse and the animal in me liked the way her body felt writing against me. “Stop,” I said. “You keep wiggling around like that and it ain’t gonna be good for either of us, okay? I’m not going to hurt you. I swear it.”She nodded slowly and I released her soft lips from my grip. And then she screamed again before I could cover the sound.“What the hell are you doing to her?” Jeremiah asked from above us.
“I’m trying to get her to stop shrieking! She’s killing my ears.”**********************************************

...Sneak Peek Sunday - The Dawson Brides...
This weeks Sneak Peek Sunday will feature a six paragraph snippet of a work in progress called The Dawson Brides. It will eventually be a trilogy of the stories of the three Dawson brothers struggling to make it in the wild west with a big secret (hint: they howl at the moon) and trying to find wives strong enough to handle both dangers. Combining Historic Western Romance and Paranormal Romance, they won't be your typical reads but we'll give it a go at finding an audience for their stories :)
Jeremiah Dawson has advertised in the Chicago paper for a wife with good birthing hips, who's tidy, and who's willing to cook for three brothers. He's answered instead by Kristina, who is unkempt, doesn't cook a lick, and is a newly retired saloon girl to boot. She does have good birthing hips though and one out of three ain't bad. Instantly he knows she's not the one for him, but surely his brother, Luke, wouldn't have qualms about marrying a whore. The trick now is to convince him he wants to get married at all, but Jeremiah isn't above a bit of trickery, and this scene is the beginning of that plan.

“Best if I tell him,” Jeremiah whispered in my ear.“Tell me what?” Luke said from much too far away to be able to hear us over the street noise. Strange.“It’s a surprise,” Jeremiah said shortly. “Load up.” The towering men headed for the front seat of the buggy and I glanced around frantically. Well, no help for it then. I scrambled into the back with my skirts flying nearly to my hips. I was pretty good at attractive first impressions.“What the hell?” Luke said, glaring at his brother. “You gonna help her or what?”“Ain’t my job,” Jeremiah said with a grin. “Hup!” he said, slapping the two black horses in front with the reins.Luke glanced back at me once with a slight frown and shook his head like his brother had lost his mind. My husband didn’t know he was caught yet.
