My Favorite Items

With only a few shopping weeks left before Christmas…it’s time to list my favorite items…I mean items you can actually afford (sorry Oprah).

20131204_2129221. Best deep conditioner – L’Oreal Deep Repair 5

2. Best dog shampoo – Espree, aloe oatmeal medicated shampoo20131204_212838

3. Better Homes and Gardens scented wax cubes (affordable and long lasting smell, I go through 3 tea-lights before I have to swap them out for two new wax cubes).

4. Baby oil and mouthwash (My English lab suffers from horrible allergies when the weather changes and will scratch his front legs nearly raw. This mixture of baby oil and original antiseptic (original flavor) mixed together stopped the itch and healed his wounds in about a week. I did monitor him to make sure he didn’t lick it off)

20131124_1010565. 20131203_180543Spectrum Organic Mayonnaise with Olive Oil (I am a huge Miracle Whip fan for BLT’s but this mayonnaise was all I could find during a late night grocery store run and I may never go back to Miracle Whip again)

3 Things I Learned This Week

It might only be Tuesday….but already…..

Having a working updated phone saves me from polluting the world with stickies.

You Tube videos are far better than reading instructions.

Auto correct for text messaging and emails is both positive (helps me spell correctly) and negative (chooses words I was not attempting to spell).

NEVER TOO OLD FOR AN ADVENT CALENDAR

NEVER TOO OLD FOR AN ADVENT CALENDAR

Happy December 1st!

We are reminded daily (RIP Paul Walker) that living each day to the fullest is vital.

Follow your dreams, enjoy life, and make the most of what you have.

Holiday Ads

I received a stack of black Friday and other Christmas ads that clearly needed my opinion.

wpid-20131128_125343.jpgI’m guessing the California candle smells like a beach, but the New York candle…are we talking about downtown city smell or upstate smell?

wpid-20131128_130054.jpgI don’t know any pet that actually keeps these on for more than 0.007 seconds.

wpid-20131128_131631.jpgI just found these owls to be rather unsettling…

wpid-20131128_133421.jpgThese are the only two ads that peaks my interest…should this be of concern? haha

***For those wondering, THE BIRD had a small issue for the recipe I used (cooking temperature) but I resolved it :)

Thanksgiving

This year will be my very first attempt at cooking THE BIRD. I have made the traditional side dishes for many years, but never THE BIRD. And because I am 110% against shopping of any kind on Thanksgiving (gas stations, grocery stores, malls, etc) I have three options.

1. Double, triple check to make sure I have everything before midnight Wednesday.

2. Simply…don’t mess up THE BIRD!

3. Have back-up dinner just in case. (boxed Mac & Cheese)

Happy Thanksgiving to all my followers :)

Attractive Women

Every few weeks something pops up in the media about the fallacy of magazine cover models and Photoshopped music videos. Even spending time with family during the holidays (sibling rivalry of beauty per-say).

I started to think if I felt this way, jealous and self-consensus about attractive women…of course I do! (BTW, it didn’t help that I was eating ice cream when the Victoria Secret commercial came on).

Many women compare themselves to other women. We blame it on men, but really many women feel competitive of other women. Sure we really want to look amazing for a man, but possibly also to outdo the other woman who might be in a man’s line of sight. As a woman we often want what we can’t have and if we get it, we want something else. A never satisfied deal for many of us. The whole blonde hair or brown hair debate, hair straight or curly.

But I’m here to tell you…it’s useless on every level!!!

First we (women) need to work on being less self-consensus around other beautiful women. We, in most cases cannot change how we look. We can eat healthy and exercise, but a lot of how attractive a woman looks has to do with things out of our control. Essentially it’s what we are born with (genes). Because of this it’s important to utilize our self-esteem and confidence in what we find attractive about ourselves.

The only way to fix how nasty and subconsciousness we feel around other beautiful women is by acceptance and self-confidence. (Not a simple process to practice.) Otherwise it continues to be an endless struggle to overcome that snip-it of hatred for the beautiful woman who enters a room.

Writing With Dogs

Every time I sit down to write, I am interrupted…by the sound of a toy dropping. I lean my head around my laptop and see Awesome sitting there, toy at his paws, staring at me. He looks at me as though, since I have finally sat down, that this is CLEARLY PLAY TIME. Of course Dog knows…well she is just too busy napping or enjoying the backyard to care about interrupting me to play. But then again, Awesome is always around to review my latest story :) 20131120_191026

Just Something About a Dog

100_1097I love my dogs…my kids. They bring joy to my life everyday. Yet I never thought I would be a dog person, nor would I grow to love an animal as much as I love my dogs. For blog followers of mine that have been around for the last four odd years you know that I have two dogs. Referred to on the blog as “Dog” and “Puppy” (Puppy later became “Awesome” because he was no longer a puppy).

While many people get warm and fuzzy feelings over baby pictures, I’m a sucker for puppy pictures.

That’s why this article I stumbled upon really moved me. And while many of you will probably see how much a toddler can love a puppy…I see how much love a puppy provides a human and how much love can be between animal and human.

Stephen King Does It…

cheeseHe (Stephen King) eats a piece of cheesecake before he sits down to write.

Do you have any rituals before you sit down to write?

Exercise? Nap? Turn on music?

I usually play with my dogs before I write. This tires them out so that they will rest and I can focus on writing.

3 Things I Learned This Week

iceDo not play tug with your dog that is the same weight as you – you will lose and hurt your arm.

When finding a puzzle piece that I have been searching for and it fits, I let out a woo-whop that sounds like I’m on the Arsenio Hall Show.

Chocolate ice cream with rainbow sprinkles might be the answer to world peace.
