Appreciation Monday
I am very lucky in the fact that I get a handful of nice complements throughout the month for various reasons. But out of all of them, there is one that means the most to me. One that is like a shiny gold Oscar, without having to give an embarrassing speech.
It means the most to me because it’s about family. It’s also something that at times when I am busy or tired or not feeling well that I feel horrible about because I’m putting me first. And lastly it’s something that some understand and others don’t.
I am appreciative for the opportunity to be a momma to my dogs.
I am appreciative for being called a great momma to my dogs.

How To Get The Bookcase You Want
Thinking outside the box can provide your home with things that you want, but may, for some reason or another, not been able to get.
I needed to get a bookcase recently due to my move. My car is small and I had a set budget in mind. So how did I go about getting a 6ft bookcase with adjustable shelves??First, I checked for bookcases styles. I had several options (IKEA bookcases were too big or not big enough plus a drive to get to their store).
Second, I checked prices and styles online. I knew that real wood would provide both transportation and budget issues. But I wanted something that looked near real wood if possible.
Third, I checked out my narrowed down options in person. Target, my last stop, happened to have just what I wanted…and on clearance.
I picked matching bookcases (2x) that offered adjustable shelves (something the tall bookcases rarely offered at my budget). Also making sure once one was upside down it would like “meant to be.”
I was able to lift both boxes into the cart and later unload into my tiny trunk. *a very nice Target employee loaded them for me*Fourth, I assembled the two bookcases separately. Then carefully sawed off the legs of one. (This piece would go upside down). Then I flipped the sawed off legs bookcase over and upside down onto of my right side up bookcase. I secured the two pieces in the back first (3 places). *They shift slightly when tighten screws so with each turn near the end make sure they are lined up how you want them. I then screwed (where the top and top now sit together) two screws into the inverted top to fully secure them. *Once the screws are almost in the bookcase will start to separate, keep screwing and it will lower back down as it becomes flush. Make sure you have the right size screws! And beware of placement because you will see them unless covered by books.

Appreciation Monday
I am going to boost a bit today for my appreciation post.
I love that I am creative! I love that it comes so easy to me!
My creativity stretches from my writing to house and garden projects.
My creativity saves me money, makes me money, and creates beauty and comfort.
I am appreciative for my creative mind.

When Do Writers Read?
I started reading Sycamore Row by John Grisham in March. I’m still only 1/2 way done. (And it’s a good book!). My writer friends are always posting about books they are reading, and I am thinking when do you have time to read?!?
I do make attempts to read but they always go south.
If I sit down to read 88% of the time I fall asleep within the first 3 pages, even with the best books.
If I am reading my mind wanders to my TO DO LIST.
If I am reading I think about each sentence and scene and what I like or don’t like about it as a writer, reading each paragraph until I give up in actually moving to the next page.
If I sit down to read I notice my hands and that they
A. need new nail polish
B. need lotion
C. need cuticle care
D. notice more freckles which leads to thinking about aging and before I know it I’ve read to 2 pages but didn’t comprehend any of it.
So, when do you find time to read?

Appreciation Monday
Tomorrow I will celebrate my 1 year work anniversary with a particular department. And I couldn’t be happier to have my job. Of course it would be nice to spend each day doing whatever I want, but don’t we all want to retire?!?!? But since I have to work, this is a great job. A lot of my friends complain about their jobs, not enough pay, tasks sucks, but what is so bad about a steady paycheck, health insurance, vacation and sick pay, and retirement. I take great appreciation in the independence of my job, at times the complexity, the sadness, the heartwarming stories and even the rude ungrateful people (which there a lot of).
As I look towards my future and even at my past I am appreciative for where I am today. A position I really never thought I would be doing or let alone somewhat good at LOL.

Where Did the Country Music Go?!?!
Country music needs to be given a new name. I love the new sound that has developed over the years, but it shouldn’t be called country. Country now-a-days is a a mix of pop and rock combined with a guitar to make it classified for country radio stations. But I miss REAL OLD SCHOOL COUNTRY! Old school Tim McGraw, Toby Keith, Garth, Clint Black, Brooks & Dunn, and Faith Hill (at this point her fans just want a new album even if it’s jazz for goodness sake! Last release was a Christmas album: Joy to the World, 2008).
I know that things change with the wave of popularity. I know that new artists are attempting to achieve the old school feeling, yet their lyrics are beyond horribly written.
The other day when “Everywhere” came on the radio, I thought I haven’t heard this song in forever (can’t seem to remember to put the CD in my car). My mind went back to how much I miss those old songs. My love for country started during a road trip through Montana and Wyoming when I was about 13 years old. (Country stations were the only ones in existence driving through there).
It is impossible to know the path of country music’s future. So for now….
Of course I can’t forget the first Faith Hill song I ever heard on the radio!!

Appreciation Monday
I feel blessed.
Don’t get me wrong, I have always had moments in my life when I felt blessed.
Yet for some reason, now, I am more aware of those moments and more.
Of all my many, many, many blessings.
Everything from the simple to the complex.
Appreciative for my blessings and being very aware of them.

Happiness
Happy: delighted, pleased, glad, contentment, fortune, indicative of pleasure
I’ve been contemplating happiness lately. What is happiness? I have, for most of my life felt happiness belonged in a form fitting box that meant the same for all. I was smart enough to know there were some slight variations, but not experienced enough to know there are endless variations.
Essentially, happiness is individualized to each person. Notice the happy definition above is about a feeling, an emotion and not an object or set “thing.”
In a world so fixated on society’s versions of what happiness is we are overcome with THAT viewpoint over our actual desired happiness. One needs to take a deep look inside them self to find what makes them happy, not what we THINK makes them happy.
What is something that makes you happy that is not what others might find happiness in?

Appreciation Monday

mammatus clouds overhead yesterday evening
I guess washing my dogs Thursday afternoon sent the same signal to the weather as washing a car does.
The first dust storm came slowly rolling through Thursday evening just as the sun was setting. After everything was blown around and covered in thick dust, rain started to fall.
Growing up in California the only weather I knew of was sunshine, a few cloudy days and being forced to have recess inside if it rained. Earthquakes were the only real excitement. When I moved to Washington I discovered that recess isn’t called inside when it rains because we would never be outside…EVER!
But moving to Arizona has been so much fun when it comes to weather.
Rain is an exciting time, dust storms are amazing to watch, lightning is fun to view while you sit on the patio.
I am appreciative for fun weather to watch!

Soccer….okay, okay Futbol
I watched soccer, I mean….Futbol for the first time. (The World Cup as been a hot topic this year). I found myself rather intrigued by it all. But I have a few comments.
First I’m not trying to figure out the rules. I already know football, baseball and NASCAR rules…I don’t need to figure Futbol out too.
The clock counts up…is that so we know how much of life we have wasted watching it?
These guys have talent. I struggle to kick a ball standing still, let alone running…with people around.
All I kept thinking was they need sunglasses and hats, how can they see with all that bright sun. Then I thought skin cancer. And all that head-butting the ball…concussions.
But lastly, what is with the players holding hands to bring random children onto the field?
