Appreciation Monday

20140217_101845I’m not one for fashion. Yoga pants and v-neck tee shirts make me excited. But I am all about the fashion of nail polish.

I can put on a new color and instantly feel beautiful and in a better mood.

I haven’t been a girl who grew up with nail polish. I had to earn it. The first time I got to wear it was when I was about 10 years old, and only after I had done several extra chores. I picked red and my father was beyond upset saying that red was for…well let’s just say for un-lady like girls. Of course I had to watch my behavior because if I got in trouble I would have the bottle taken away and be forced to remove the nail polish until my punishment was over.

I rarely, if ever have gone to a salon to get my nails done. I quickly was able to paint both my left and right nails, which as many know painting with your non-dominant hand can be a challenge. And as a teen I was always the one asked to do my friend’s nails.

I am appreciative of nail polish and being able to paint my nails anytime I want :)

Heart Day…Love

loveOn this Valentine’s Day Like every Valentine’s Day we are reminded about somebody loving us or that we don’t have someone to love us. I am here to tell you that the only person who can actually love you more than anything else in the entire world is YOU.

I’m sure there are lot of couples out there that have a lot of love to give day or any day. I am sure that there are a lot of those who have struggled with finding an honest love.

I have spent a good deal of my life in very unhealthy relationships. Each time I feel that this one is going to be better, this one won’t leave me hurt. And yet again I am severely disappointed, usually for several reasons.

On this day, and any other day, remember the only person who will never disappoint you, never lie to you, never stand you up, never give you excuses, and truly love you…if you allow it, is you. You of course can lie to yourself, disappoint yourself, and make excuses but in most cases you are doing those things because you don’t truly love you for you.

White-Noise of Writing

The Olympic games are on and the writer in me is excited! Why? Because I find the Olympics to be the best thing to have on in the background when writing/editing.

There is no storyline to follow, only quick breaks to focus on a jump, turn or fall.

Is there anything that you have on in the background when writing?

* In case you are wondering, based on Monday’s post, yes I am writing again :)

Appreciation Monday

Washington 073I have not written in weeks. I’ve fallen behind in my master’s degree work and even at work. I have been unable to focus on anything for more than a few minutes at a time. I’ve struggled to get up in the morning and going to bed at night only lasts for a while before insomnia kicks in. I’ve eaten so much sugar that I think I became diabetic in the last week. I have a great deal of things to get done on my daily list and I find myself staring off into space or simply wandering for hours instead. I have purchased lavender candles, lavender oil, lavender lotion, and lavender room-spray with the hopes of it relaxing me.

So why all this on Appreciation Monday?

Because I am still trying, still strong, still looking for answers within, still grateful, still thankful, still dreaming, still believing, still aware that I can and will…

Appreciative of myself.

Cultural Intrigue

20140129_180635-1As a child I would cry over not being able to figure out how to use chopsticks. For years I have been saying I need to learn. And while I was doing research for Child Genius 101 I stumbled upon a how to video for kids on You Tube. Again I said I need to go back to this later. Then upon two acceptances from a magazine overseas I decided it finally try. I made the time, and learned how to eat with chopsticks! (Okay so I had to leave the child like assistance still attached to do it haha)

I should mention too that I have been engrossed in a series on Netflix ~ Wild China. Not only have I been learning a great deal but also very intrigued by the Chinese culture. This is nothing new, my fascination of other cultures/beliefs/religions/landscapes has been there since my childhood days.

I love the ability to embrace my cultural intrigue through shows, food, home decor (thanks TJ Maxx). Of course the ultimate embrace will be the future opportunities to travel to all these different places.

Appreciation Monday

20140201_152531-1I was very happy to receive a last minute invite for a short road trip and visit with my wonderful uncles this weekend. One uncle I had not seen since roughly 2004. I must admit I was feeling, and have been feeling incredibly stressed/depressed/confused in these last few weeks. My other uncle spent his time introducing me to friends of his as his “niece the author.” In addition this lovely and warm visit provided me with familiar accents of “beg” (bag), “pop” (soda), and a nice comment of “you talk like your mom.”

20140130_190838I also received a gift in the mail from my dear friend Viv, whom is one of the most talented artists ever (in my book). We actually met through social media (Facebook) many years ago when I recognized one of her drawing from a building that was in a movie. Our friendship has remained strong and we are lucky enough to get together at least once a year when she is in town. Her friendship, although we both live in different states, remains a very big support for me in life. And even though her friendship is more than enough the family portrait she did for me is one of the best gifts I have ever received.

So this Monday I am reminded of the appreciation I have for my family and friends regardless of time and space.

*If you want to check out my friend Vivian’s work click here for her website.

Learning yet again

Finding our own way on a different path

Taking the time to notice the beauty

You might have missed

You might have misunderstood

The Movies of Marriage

I have realized a trend in the movies involving marriage and love. They all follow the same flow of boy meets girl, blah blah blah. But each movie has an underlining theme for marriage.

This theme is that marriage is supposed to be a state of togetherness whether it is good or bad. Which frankly is rubbish.

I know that there are really good perfect like blah blah blah marriages, but art imitates life or life imitates art, however you want to look at it.

Movies begin with true deep love, then it usually involves an affair of some kind, and then the end. The end is what differs in each movie, either the couple takes the divorce road or they take the we will try to make it work because “we are married and should just realize that life isn’t perfect road.” These depress me the most. A horrible marriage but they remain together or destroy each other so much that it’s just as bad.

When it comes to movies about marriage there is a must watch one that shows what should really happen in the end: I Give It One Year

Bonus…it’s a hysterical movie!
