Happy Friday! I’ve got some great news to end the week: my book The Guggenheim Mystery (out in the UK and Ireland on 3rd August) has its first three foreign-language deals!

It has been sold in ITALY to Uovonero (who are already proving that they are lovely publishers with the below notice) …It has been sold in SPAIN to Editorial Editex, who are already Siobhan’s publishers for The London Eye Mystery …

And it has been sold in THE NETHERLANDS to Unieboek, who have already released their own version of David Dean’s gorgeous cover!… Read more

#AuthorsforGrenfell Auction – bid for me to Skype in to your school!

As you know, I can’t do as many school visits as I’d like to, because I need to keep enough time to write my books. I also usually keep my school visits within the UK and Ireland.

But this autumn term, one lucky school somewhere in the world will win the chance to have me Skype in to chat to students about my books, as part of a fundraising effort my friends and I are doing for the residents of Grenfell Tower.… Read more

Happy Empathy Day 2017!

Today is the first-ever Empathy Day in the UK!

Empathy Day is an idea from Empathy Lab, an absolutely brilliant organisation which aims to build empathy (the ability to understand how another person is feeling) through books and reading.

As readers, you all understand the way a book can transport you into a world unlike yours, and a mind and body quite different to your own.… Read more

FCBG CBA 2017 – a wonderful afternoon!

On Saturday I went to the FCBG Children’s Book Award 2017. I was shortlisted in the Older Readers category for Mistletoe and Murder, along with Sarah Crossan for One and Ali Sparkes for Car-Jacked.

I didn’t win – Sarah won our category, and Michael Morpurgo and Michael Foreman won the overall award for An Eagle in the Snow – but I want to say a BIG thank you to everyone who voted.… Read more

Italian competition and some good news – Mistletoe and Murder will be published in Italy!

There’s a lot of good news coming from Italy at the moment!

My Italian publishers, Mondadori Ragazzi, are steaming ahead with my series – the third book, Assassino in Prima Classe (Assassination in First Class), and the fourth, un Delitto allegro ma non Troppo (A Cheerful Little Crime), are out now.… Read more

The Detective Society and the UK Election

Britain has been holding an election. This morning, the results came in – and they weren’t what most people were predicting.

What’s exciting to me are the figures that are being shared about how many of the UK’s youngest voters (18-24 year olds) actually went out to vote. It’s possible that close to three quarters of that group cast votes (much higher than what was expected by many older adults), and it’s very clear that the votes they cast changed the course of a lot of races, and therefore influenced the election as a whole.… Read more

Competition time – France!

I’m very proud to have my books published in French by Flammarion Jeunesse. The first, Un Coupable Presque Parfait, has been out since last year, but the second, De l’Arsenic pour le Goûter, has just been published this year.

I’m very proud that they’re both available, and think they look gorgeous – and if you speak French, or live in France, I’m giving you the opportunity to WIN one of three sets of the books!… Read more

My Cheltenham talk reviewed!

Last month I went back to my old school, Cheltenham Ladies’ College, to give a lecture to the girls who go there now. It was an amazing honour, and a very special experience … and now CLC girl Isabella has written up the most lovely review of it. She says:

‘I’ve always wanted to be an author when I grow up, so after listening intently to Robin’s speech, I feel inspired by a girl who has been where I am now; a girl with an inventive imagination, who cannot find enough time to let her creativity out.’

Read the whole of Isabella’s prizewinning review here – I am so overwhelmingly proud to have inspired her, and the other girls I spoke to!… Read more

Competition: Murder Most Unladylike and Arsenic for Tea in Polish!

Great news for Polish murder mystery fans! My first two books, Murder Most Unladylike and Arsenic for Tea, have just been published in Poland by Grupa MAC.

They’ve got their own take on Nina Tara’s iconic illustrations – I love how they look, and I particularly love the little bird detail on Murder Most Unladylike.… Read more
