Announcement – I’m writing MMU9, the last novel in the Murder Most Unladylike series
I have some news to share with you today that’s both very exciting and very sad.
I’ve been working away on a first draft of a story for the last few months – and as a lot of you have guessed, that story will be Murder Most Unladylike Book 9! As I teased at the end of Top Marks for Murder, I’m sending Daisy and Hazel to Egypt to visit Amina – and to go on a Nile river cruise.… Read more

Daisy and Hazel were on BBC One’s Head Hunters!
There was a very familiar question on Thursday’s episode of Head Hunters. Can you guess the answer? I think you might find it pretty easy …
I’m so incredibly proud that my detectives are well-known enough to be a game show question. Wow! You can watch the whole episode on BBCiPlayer here, if you have acccess to it in your country – this section is towards the end of the show.… Read more

The second part of my Top Marks October Tour: London, Belfast and Dublin!
I’ve been travelling again, trying to meet as many of you as possible and talk about my books!
Last week I spoke at a panel event in London’s Waterstones Piccadilly called ‘Returning to Other Worlds’, about authors continuing well-known stories (to find out more about the other authors and books on the panel, I discussed them all in my October YouTube video!), I visited three schools around London, and then I travelled to Belfast and Dublin to hold public signings at Eason’s, an Irish bookstore.… Read more

Competition alert for schools and students: write your very own mystery blurb!
My publisher Puffin Books have a very exciting competition for anyone who goes to school in the UK or Ireland! They’re challenging schools to get their KS2 & 3 pupils (anyone 8-15) to write a blurb of less than 300 words for a detective story – and the best will win £100 of books plus a signed set of Murder Most Unladylike for their school!… Read more

Top Marks for Murder’s schools tour was an absolutely top week!
I always love going on tour for my books, but I think my Top Marks for Murder tour of schools and festivals at the beginning of October was one of my most wonderful author weeks ever.
Going into schools and talking to kids about my books is (strangely, because I think of myself as a fairly shy and awkward person) one of my favourite things to do these days.… Read more

Diana Wynne Jones Keynote Speech: Living a Charmed Life
I talk a lot about how much I love Diana Wynne Jones’s books, and how much she’s influenced me as an author – so much that I was invited to the Diana Wynne Jones Conference in Bristol in August to give a keynote speech about her!
Below is the text of that speech, as I read it out in August – I hope you enjoy it.… Read more

Announcement: Daisy and Hazel’s new mystery The Case of the Drowned Pearl will be one of the 2020 World Book Day Books!
I’m not very good at keeping secrets – but now that I’m an author I’ve had to do my best to learn. And I think I’ve done pretty well at keeping this news under my hat: in 2020, my ENTIRELY NEW short story The Case of the Drowned Pearl, featuring Hazel, Daisy, Alexander and George, will be one of the World Book Day £1 books in the UK and Ireland!… Read more

Detectives for climate action!
Today, the 20th September, saw the biggest worldwide climate strike to date. Millions of people marched all over the world to demand urgent action to tackle the climate crisis. The news is scary, and it’s easy to feel small and powerless in the face of the scale of change needed, but it’s clear to me that every single one of us has a part to play, and that no one is too small to make a difference.… Read more
