In memory of Xan West
In August of this year, I learned that erotica and romance author and blogger on kink and disability Xan West died. I'm only now writing about it here because I was too hurt to do so then. Here's the text of the tweet I posted then:
I just learned that @TGStoneButch has died. I never met them, I've never seen a photo of them, but this great writer with a great, big, beautiful brain and a heart to match blessed me with their presence thru emails & tweets of mutual support. Goodbye, my dear pen pal. #xanwest
Please read their blogs and enrich yourselves with their wisdom and knowledge:

A lesson in language and oppression
"No one is attacked, abused, oppressed, pogromed upon or enslaved because of their race, creed or cultural background. People are attacked, abused, oppressed, pogromed upon or enslaved because of racism and anti-Semitism!" -- Amoja Three Rivers
This is just one of the many lessons in Cultural Etiquette: a Guide for the Well-Intentioned, originally published in 1990, that people still need to learn.
To paraphrase the late womanist philosopher who was my friend, my skin color or ethnicity doesn't make anybody hurt me. Their racism and bigotry does. People constantly say and write, "_____ was discriminated against/assaulted/killed because of their race/gender/sexual orientation/whatever." This needs to stop. Say it right and put the blame on the oppressor, not the victim.
I wish everyone would read Amoja's book and learn this and many other lessons that need to be learned now more than ever.

My newest sci-fi publication!
After four revisions and about 10 rejections over two years, my science fiction short story "Adjudicated" finally has been published in Astral Waters Review, a speculative fiction journal of work by people of color and/or LGBTQ+. This is my fourth science fiction story publication, not counting my booklet Secret Insurrection: Stories from a Novel of a Future Time.
The story is about a woman who suffers the consequences of a near-future carceral system in which mass incarceration has been replaced by a particularly invasive form of surveillance.
I've had three theatrical companies pay me (or offer to pay me--Twin Cities Pride got canceled, so I lost out on that) to perform a monologue version of "Adjudicated," but this is the first time any version of it has been published.
The journal is a free, downloadable PDF:

My essay in a feminist "Quaranzine"
I am honored to be one of the contributors to a special issue of the Minnesota Women's Press, "Quaranzine 1.1: The Cocoon," that asks local women in the creative professions about how we're living through the state's stay-at-home order.
My essay, "Writing My Way Through," is about my go-to coping method of dealing with the changes wrought by COVID-19:
