My MSR article on AWP 15
I attended the Association of Writers and Writing Programs’ (AWP) Annual Conference and Bookfair held in Minneapolis April 8-11. In this Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder online article, I focus on the African American publishers and editors I found there, as well as a few authors such as Roxane Gay, LaShonda Katrice Barnett, and Ayshia Stephenson: http://spokesman-recorder.com/black-p...

Six of my poems in one journal!
Adrienne: A Poetry Journal of Queer Women, edited by Valerie Wetlaufer, has published six of my poems in their latest issue: http://siblingrivalrypress.bigcartel....
Adrienne also has these issues listed on Goodreads: Adrienne: A Poetry Journal of Queer Women, Adrienne Issue 02: A Poetry Journal of Queer Women, and Adrienne Issue 03: A Poetry Journal of Queer Women.
I am so honored to have such a large number of my poems published in a journal named in honor of the late, great Adrienne Rich.

I'm now a published sci-fi writer!
An excerpt from my sci-fi novel in progress, "Secret Insurrection," is in a new online African-Diaspora speculative fiction collection from Jalada Africa, publishers of Jalada 00: Sketch of a Bald Woman in the Semi-Nude and Other Stories and Jalada 01: Sext Me: Poems and Stories.
Here's the direct link to my story: http://jalada.org/2015/01/15/secret-i...
I'm especially honored to be in the same SF collection as Sheree R. Thomas, editor of the great Dark Matter: A Century of Speculative Fiction from the African Diaspora.
I'm now a real published sci-fi writer, whoo-hoo! Now I just need to finish my first draft of the novel :-D

First publication of 2015!
From the last to the first so quickly: My tribute poem/spoken word work "I can't speak to him" has been published by the online journal The Voices Project: http://www.thevoicesproject.org/poetr...
This work was written about my father, who died two years ago. It was part of a collaborative performance of work inspired by another poet, Maxie Rockymore, that I was in less than a month after my Pop's death.

My last publication of the year!
My essay/monologue “An Abbreviated History of My Hair in Prose and with Rhyme” has been published online for the second time. It's in an online zine with works on people of color, beauty standards and rituals, and being LGBT called "Queenies, Fades, Blunts": http://issuu.com/riannajadeparker/doc...
A shorter version of this essay was read at “Hair Stories: Black Women Share 3-Minute Tales About Their Hair,” presented at Amazon Bookstore of Minneapolis, MN, July 20, 2001. A slightly different version was published in the now-defunct online journal SunDryed Affairs in June 2011 (http://sundryedaffairs.com/2011/06/15...).
I've already got another online publication scheduled for January and one or two other possibilities.

Mis-edited essay makes me look like a plagiarist!
I am the author of the essay "The Man in the Car" in Write for Light: A Collection of True Stories and Poems about Finding Light in the Darkness. When my essay was accepted for this anthology, the editor never sent me a copy to review for corrections before it was published. In fact, after it was published I asked for a contributor's copy; the editor offered to send an electronic copy. I gladly accepted this, but no copy was ever sent.
I finally was able to get a free eBook copy from Barnes & Noble, since I refuse to pay for a book that I didn't get a contributor's copy of and received no payment for (this is supposed to be a charity benefit book). To my shock and horror, I've discovered that an anecdote I excepted from "Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth," about a police officer who nearly gives his life to save a suicidal man, has the quotes and the credit to the book removed.
Even the second paragraph space break and asterisk separating the end of the long quote from where my narrative resumes has been removed. This essay as it has been printed in this book has been ruined because it makes me look like a plagiarist!
I now must explain this everywhere this book is being made available so my reputation as a writer isn't ruined along with my essay.

First new publication of 2014
My poem "A hunger for stone" is in Cactus Heart Literary Magazine Issue 7! Here's a link to the website: www.cactusheartpress.com
You can purchase a copy of this e-magazine here:
http://cactus-heart.myshopify.com/col...
I got published four times last year (outside of Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder articles), so hopefully this is a start of meeting or beating that record this year!

New poem publication
Skin to Skin, a publication that describes itself as "a coffee table magazine for women of the LGBT community," has published my poem "Crystal." This is my third new publication this year outside of Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder articles. Skin to Skin is available for purchase as an ebook and print book here:
http://www.magcloud.com/browse/issue/...
Note: Skin to Skin does have very artful nude photos of women, but it's not an erotica or sex book. It's mostly poetry, some prose and lovely photography.
