A Case of the Monday’s

Good Afternoon,

I know I slacked on my blog posts the last two weeks, but I was busy finishing up Triztan and getting him off to the editor.  :)  I’m back now, ready to go.

I don’t know what it is about Monday’s or hell… the last four days, but I have been so damn bitchy and I can’t figure out why.  I’m not sleeping and I know this is related to my upcoming release.  Call it a case of nerves.  Anyway, when you dream about Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore designing skirts all night long…yeah, that doesn’t make for a great day.

I’ve also been busy getting ready for my upcoming signing in March.  I’m really excited to go, but also having some freak out moments over that as well.  I’m super shy until I get to know you and then…watch out world.

I have kept myself busy with crocheting over 60 coffee koozies that I will be giving away at the signing.  :)  I hope people like them because I don’t know what I’ll do with 60 of those things if they don’t.  LOL!

Anyway, I’m all over the place today.  I’m anxious to hear what my editor has to say about what needs to be fixed in my book, trying to get all of these coffee koozies done isn’t helping and well…then we throw in the bitch factor and I’m about all kinds of fucked up today.

I refuse to get on Facebook because every time I do, my blood pressure goes through the roof at all of the stupid shit going on.  Perhaps I should I put in a movie and just chill out, but with my mind racing, that isn’t going to work either.

I hope you all are having a better day.

We’ll talk again soon,

Aly

M. Leighton

10799547_716370918439916_1708159643_nNew York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author, M. Leighton, is a native of Ohio. She relocated to the warmer climates of the South, where she can be near the water all summer and miss the snow all winter. Possessed of an overactive imagination from early in her childhood, Michelle finally found an acceptable outlet for her fantastical visions: literary fiction. Having written over a dozen novels, these days Michelle enjoys letting her mind wander to more romantic settings with sexy Southern guys, much like the one she married and the ones you’ll find in her latest books. When her thoughts aren’t roaming in that direction, she’ll be riding horses, swimming in ponds and experiencing life on a ranch, all without leaving the cozy comfort of her office.

A note from Michelle: I love coffee and chocolate, even more so when they are combined. I’m convinced that one day they could be the basis for world peace. I also love the color red and am seriously considering dying my hair.

Fiction and Fictional Characters

I wrote a post a while back about fiction and fictional characters.  At the time there were a lot of posts popping up on social media about how unrealistic some stories were because of the way characters behaved in books, or fell in love to quickly, etc, etc, etc.

Flash forward to today, and it’s the same old shit.  Here’s the deal.  I get it!  It can be annoying if characters fall in love too quickly for what some may deem reasonable, but it’s the author that is creating the story, the characters, the background and everything in between.  Sometimes, it is a little annoying…I agree.  But it’s the authors story and they can write it however they choose and we as readers have the right to read it or not.

When I write a story, I write what the characters in my head are telling me to write.  Does that mean that everything in my book is truth?  HELL NO!!!!!  I write fiction!!!!  That means it’s not based on a true story and the facts in the book are probably made up by my imagination.  I do my best to research things that I know nothing about, but again, because I write fiction, sometimes those things are stretched a little or even made to be unrealistic.  I write so that my readers can escape the realities of real life and get lost in a great story that takes them into another world.

These days everyone seems to be an expert on how someone should write their story or how they shouldn’t.   All that I am saying is that if you’re reading one of my books, chances are, you’re going to read a lot of things in there that aren’t true.  For example:  Super HOT alpha males that are billionaires and young; yeah they probably don’t exist.  I’m also pretty sure that vampires and werewolves aren’t real either but people seem to really enjoy reading about that, so…with that said, I will end on this note, FICTION IS NOT REAL!!!!!

Think I’m a bitch?  That’s okay.  I am a little bitchy today.  I’m tired of seeing crap every time I open my newsfeed where people are complaining about fictional books not being true to real life.  I am seriously irritated with this.   I am now returning to my happy place, which is my little fictional world with my fictional friends.  I hope you all have a wonderful day, and thank you for listening to me rant.

Much Love,

Aly
