Cancer is a BITCH!!!

I’m usually a very private person. I rarely ever share the drama or trauma’s that are going on in my life, because well…I just feel that some things are better left off of social media.

But…yesterday, I finally lost it. I was so angry with the things that I had been seeing over the past week being posted on Facebook so I decided to share and explain a bit about what’s going on in my life and why all of that negativity had such an impact on me.

On Easter Sunday of this year my mother-in-law was in so much pain that she finally went to the emergency room. At first, they thought it was her gall bladder, but the test came back negative for that. After a few more tests, the results were in. They revealed that she has ovarian cancer. I was in total and utter shock. I was angry and I was sad. Very, very sad.

I was trying to hold it all together so that I could be the best support system for my husband and my kids. I’m sure I failed miserably, but then again, I am only human and all I can do is just be there, listen, love and support.

The following Tuesday, she met with an oncologist and was told that it was Stage 3 and she will be lucky to have 24 months if the treatment is successful. What is the treatment you ask? Nine weeks of chemotherapy, then surgery to remove the ovaries (she had a hysterectomy when she was younger) and then another six weeks of chemo after that.

Her stomach was bloated from all of the fluid, so she was admitted to have that drained. The first draining was successful, but the other two times were not. It was no longer fluid, but more tumors. Since she started chemotherapy, the tumors have gone from pea sized to peach sized.

She has the best attitude though and refuses to give up. I spent some time with her last Thursday, just talking, about make-up, hair and all things girly. Then she removed her wig and showed me just how much hair she’s lost from the chemo. She also mentioned that her eyelashes and eyebrows will also fall out, and that you don’t realize how much your hair is a part of you as a woman until you lose it. It broke my heart. The things that she was telling me, things that I take for granted every day, really caused me to take a step back and look at things from a different perspective.

So here is what I’ve been observing. People love drama. The more there is, the more they flock to it. I’ve also noticed that there are a lot of “Mean Girls” out there too. And here is an example of what I’m talking about. I can make a post about positive things each day, and only a handful of people will give it a LIKE. If I post something really bitchy or negative…that gets hundreds of LIKES. Kind of shitty, right? Yeah, I think so too!

I see a lot of women tearing each other down. Why? What the hell does it matter if someone is fat? What does it matter if their face isn’t pleasing to you? How in the hell does this PERSONALLY affect you? I can answer that. It doesn’t. You write shit like that to be an asshole, because you are unhappy with your own self. Get over it! Grow up! And CHANGE!!!

Now, I’m NOT talking about ALL people. Just a handful, that seem to have a lot of influence and get people to jump on their “Mean Girl” crusade. Most of the people I talk to and have friendships with are very kind, uplifting, positive women, and for that, I am so thankful to have them in my life.

Why am I ranting? Because I want people to think before they start tearing others down. You don’t know what a person is going through, or why they may look they way they do. Just because they don’t tell you, doesn’t mean there isn’t some underlying illness or issue that is going on with them. Be nice!

If you think I’m a bitch for saying what I needed to say, then so be it. Feel free to exit my circle. If you think this post is about you, then maybe you need to make a change. I am not perfect. I will be the first to admit it, and I can honestly tell you, that I never go out of my way to be mean or hurt someone else. That’s just being an asshole.

My mother-in-law has cancer. It sucks! An author friend has cancer. It sucks! My friend from high school was just diagnosed with breast cancer. IT SUCKS!!! Can we all please be more positive, so that those who are suffering don’t have to be subjected to negative shit on Facebook while they are trying to heal, because believe it or not, that’s the only support some people get is from social media.

Be kind. Be positive. Show some love today and everyday.

Crisp air grazed against my face as I stood facing Royce on the bridge. A decision needed to be made, one that would forever change both of our lives.

We were juniors in high school, both of us without a care in the world. The only thing we were concerned with was where we would go to school once we graduated.

I was tired of this little mountain town, situated out in the middle of nowhere. Art galleries, hole in the wall restaurants and small homes weren’t my thing. I was destined for greatness. One day I would be famous.

I looked into Royce’s deceiving eyes, feeling his betrayal. He was clueless. Not even an inkling of guilt on his part for what he had done to me. I didn’t give a hint that I knew, either. I kept my feelings to myself, contemplating what the punishment should be.

He’d brought me here tonight so we could have some alone time away from our family and friends. In other words, he wanted sex at our usual quaint, quiet little spot. Normally, I wouldn’t think twice about giving it up, but after his betrayal with Kristen, I was no longer interested.

He swore that he’d never cheated on me. It was a lie. One that I just couldn’t forgive and the longer I stood there staring into his eyes, the more I hated him.

Springtime Love and Homemade Green Chili

I’m sitting here at my dining room table, looking out my sliding glass door, listening to the birds chirp and watching our resident squirrel taunt my dog from the fence. It’s moments like these that make me thankful for Springtime.

It’s been a while since my last blog post so I thought I would share with you what I’ve been up to and my plans for the upcoming months.

If you follow me on Facebook I’m sure that you’ve seen all of the amazing pictures that I’ve posted from my first signing, Authors in the City. I had so much fun meeting my awesome, fellow authors and fantastic readers! I want to thank all of you that came out and came by to see me. It’s always so nice to put a face to a name.

So you might be asking yourselves…what’s next for this crazy author. Well…in all honesty…A LOT!!! I’m finishing up my serial, Malicious Beauty and hope to have the first part out in April. Then, I will be finishing Kiss of Summer, which is a story I started last year and had to put aside for a while due to the content in the book. As many of you know, I lost my grandmother right in the middle of writing it, and well…grieving kind of sucks! I’m still battling a bit of depression, but each day I wake up and make myself write, interact and try and stay positive. I’ve written about depression before on here, and it is no joke. I just want you to know, that if you suffer from it yourself, you’re not alone. Even though it can feel like that sometimes. Trust me, I know.

I’m also working on Alexi’s story, which is a character that was introduced in The Fixer Series and also Triztan. I’m trying to get these done as soon as I can, but I’m not a miracle worker and I don’t write at mock speed. I like to take my time so that I can give you the best story possible, and if that means that I don’t like the way a story is going, it may delay it. Which is a bummer, because I’d love to produce a book a month, but that’s just not me or my writing style. Thank you for understanding, being patient and for loving my books!

Since we’re celebrating spring, I want to share my homemade green chili recipe, which actually was my grandmother’s. I miss her and her cooking so much, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
