Holiday reading
Ah, I love holidays. I genuinely can't remember the last time I allowed myself to read 100 pages in a day (I'm not a particularly fast reader) without feeling guilty that there were other jobs to be done. But that's what I did on my recent holiday and I devoured The Woman in Black. I only allowed myself to read during the day, though, and I switched back to The Adventures of Tom Sawyer before bed in a vain attempt to avoid nightmares.

Anyone want to give me an apple?
I'm only on chapter 3 but already I think I could take a leaf out of Tom Sawyer's book. I have to make unpacking boxes look really fun, invite all my friends round, then sit back while they unpack my boxes for me and give me an apple for the privilege!

Hello again
I've recently moved house, away from Oxford and back to just outside Stoke-on-Trent. I can hear the shrieks of buzzards and can feel the vibrations of the nearby train line. I've vowed to find time to read more so I've started with one of my leaving gifts: The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. I know I'm not saying anything new here but Mark Twain can write dialogue! I've only read two chapters but I'm finding myself inadvertently reading a lot of it out loud to myself, and the characters leap off the page. Zadie Smith did the same thing when I read White Teeth. Phenomenal writing.

World Book Day
Happy World Book Day. I hear lots about primary school pupils dressing up to mark it, but less about high school activities. I know there are book vouchers and £1 books and lots of good ideas on the website - http://www.worldbookday.com/. I'd love to hear what people have been doing.

The future of reading?
Just catching my breath from the London Author Fair on Friday and thinking about all the discussions I heard. Of particular interest was where the world of reading is going and where it will be in 2020.
I love the way that readers can interact with each other on goodreads, and share the books they are so passionate about. One discussion was about taking that notion further and whether ereaders will become more interactive, or whether books will be much more web-based. The possibility was that people will be able to post comments on books next to the particular paragraphs they're reading, and then other readers will be able to comment on the comments.
Interesting times are ahead I think.

Where to get Box 1571
Thanks for the reviews that the giveaway winners have been posting so far.
