I've recently moved house, away from Oxford and back to just outside Stoke-on-Trent. I can hear the shrieks of buzzards and can feel the vibrations of the nearby train line. I've vowed to find time to read more so I've started with one of my leaving gifts:
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. I know I'm not saying anything new here but Mark Twain can write dialogue! I've only read two chapters but I'm finding myself inadvertently reading a lot of it out loud to myself, and the characters leap off the page. Zadie Smith did the same thing when I read
White Teeth. Phenomenal writing.
