@leaveyourmarkpodcast New on the podcast: @LisaNiver on Being Brave-ish, Leaving Relationships that Don't Serve You, and Removing Can't From Your Vocabulary Lisa Niver has traveled in far-off locales from Vanuatu to Nepal, received numerous accolades as an award-winning travel expert who has explored 102 countries and six continents, and is the founder of the websiteWeSaidGoTravel, what people dont realize is that this began from the wreckage of a rotten romance. As a newlywed, Lisa was on the adventure of a lifetime. She had quit her job, rented her condo, and traveled around Asia. To the outside world, Lisa was a woman living out her dreams of exploring ancient ruins in Cambodia and seeing orangutans in Borneo. She kept a dark secret in private: an abusive relationship. But, when she found herself lying on a sidewalk in Thailand, looking up at the sky in severe pain, she knew things had to change. At age forty- seven, Niver found the courage to set course on a new life. Feeling like a failure, pushing fifty, and moving home to her parents' house to start again from scratch, Lisa began taking one tiny "brave-ish" step at a time to take her life far away from the old one and into the adventurous world of travel writing. These small hurdles led to the challenge of trying fifty new things before turning fifty. From diving into shipwrecks, swimming with sharks, bobsledding at 3Gs, indulging in wild escapades, Lisa found herself traversing the world on a journey of reinvention, personal growth, and discovering what it actually means to be "brave." Her new book Brave-ish: One Breakup, Six Continents, and Feeling Fearless After Fifty, chronicles Lisas inspiring expeditions to distant corners of the world, including Myanmar, Cuba, Morocco, Kenya, and Mongolia, but this is more than a travelogue. Brave-ish inspires readers to dream big, take risks, and embrace the unknown to create a life filled with wonder and excitement, even when courage seems elusive. In this episode, Lisa shares how she saved herself, took risks, embraced the unknown, and pressed the reset button when she fell off track. She also shares how she taught herself to rest, not quit. Lisa's story is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the power of perseverance. #podcastinterview #badrelationships #solotravel #newbook #braveish #abuseawareness original sound – LEAVE YOUR MARK PodcastI interviewed Aliza about her book on Make Your Own Map:Are you ready to PIVOT? Marathon Madness – in memory of Ellame Ford-Dunn

Kiley wrote that he “is running 5 marathons in 5 days to raise funds for a very special charity YOU RAISE ME UP who have been supporting a very special family, our lovely neighbours from across the street the Ford-Dunns.

Two years ago, Nancy & Ken Ford-Dunn tragically lost their 16 year old daughter Ellame to suicide. Their son Arthur has been my son James’ best friend ever since we moved to Upper Beeding (nearly 10 years ago) they also have a younger daughter Frankie.
Clearly this tragedy ripped a hole in the family and I think that everyone in our little village has been deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Ellame. There’s not a day that passes where they are not in our thoughts.
Ellame was such a bright bundle of energy and was so mischievously funny. Since her passing Nancy has been courageously campaigning on her behalf and bringing awareness to others about predators who are not always the typical dodgy looking bloke that mum warned you about, sometimes it can be ‘normal looking’ folk, who you least expect. Nancy’s tireless work is truly inspirational and vitally important to bringing awareness to keep all of our children safe!

This is the reason that I am doing this challenge. I know that it is going to be very tough (my feet hurt just thinking about it!) but when the going gets tough, it will be Ellame and the Ford-Dunn’s struggle that will be my motivation to push on through and power me up to run the 131 miles over 5 days.
Thank you to my amazing employer HJ BURT who paid my 175 entry fee for me to be able to undertake this mega challenge so I can raise funds for this awesome charity.

YOU RAISE ME UP’s support has been invaluable and the work they do concerning mental health and emotional support is so needed for them and others in the community.
You Raise Me Up supports families after the death of a child aged 16-25.
The charity provides compassion, support and simply to be able to say we totally understand rather than we cannot imagine what you are going through.

They have trained, experienced counsellors available to help families through these dark times. They also run monthly support groups, where you can meet other families going through similar emotions and start to feel less alone. Their support centre and community cafe in Polegate is a comfortable welcoming space for all and they are solely reliant on sponsorship to keep their vital organisation going. This will likely be the last time I take on a challenge of this magnitude so if you can sponsor to this worthy cause please do. Thank you Dave”

Nancy on Jan Broberg’s podcast: I Have Something To Say : A Mothers Perspective On Child Sexual Abuse With Nancy Nancy shared with me that “You may have heard of Jan Broberg… there is a Neflix documentary about her story called “abducted in plain sight” and she has a series on sky called “a friend of the family.” She is an incredible advocate for those who have suffered childhood sexual abuse.”

Tribute to Ellame on MuchLoved

Nancy and Ken carried the Baton of Hope in honor of Ellame–watch the video, Baton of Hope UK: Brighton, 5th July 2023. “The Baton of Hope came to Brighton, and was carried by 90 people, either in memory of a loved one lost to suicide, or in honour of their own survival.”
Nancy on The Trusted Friend Podcast—Sensitive Topics of Sexual Abuse and Suicide “Nancy, a resilient mother, is committed to raising awareness about the insidious tactics predators employ to build trust and create a false sense of security. Tragically, her daughter fell victim to the abusive actions of her best friend’s husband, succumbing to the lasting impact of the abuse and ultimately taking her own life. Now, Nancy is on a mission to share her story, shedding light on the importance of recognizing and combating the deceptive tactics used by predators.”
Nancys daughter was the victim of abuse from the age of 7 at the hands of a family friend. She will never regret immediately believing her brave daughter when she spoke out. She started to connect her gut feelings with past incidents from previous years, realising the importance of giving them greater attention. Her story is tragic, but she is determined to reveal some of the things shes learned to other parents.
NANCYI am the parent of an abused child.
We didnt know about the abuse that our daughter had suffered until she was 16 years old.
Eventually the flashbacks she was suffering became too much and she was brave enough to speak out about what had happened to her from the age of 7.
As is so often the case, this man was so credible. He had been one of our best friends. He was kind and charming and so good with the kids.
Sadly, that means that there are some people who believe him when he says he is innocent.
But what else would he say?
We grew up believing that the dirty old man was the one to watch out for. Warned of stranger danger.
We were not told that the vast majority of these crimes are carried out by someone we know.
And often, the last person youd imagine.
If a child tells you they have been abused, believe them.
These perpetrators are skilled at grooming adults as much as the child.
Think critically! And follow your gut if something feels off it probably is.

Conquering Summer Travel Aches

By Lisa Niver, TYLENOL Brand Partner
In the dynamic realm of travel, summer beckons adventurers far and wide to embark on journeys filled with excitement and discovery. As a seasoned explorer, I’ve traversed diverse landscapes and immersed myself in countless cultures, all while encountering the inevitable discomforts that accompany the thrill of exploration. This summer, I have teamed up with TYLENOL to share how being prepared has helped me manage minor aches and pains while on-the-go.

Embrace the Adventure: Imagine trekking through rugged terrain, the allure of nature unfolding before your eyes. Suddenly, a twinge in your muscles threatens to impede your progress. Fear not with TYLENOL Extra Strength Caplets nestled in your pack, you can conquer those trails with ease. This 10-count travel size fits easily into any carry-on bag to ensure that you have pain relief on-hand when you need it most.

One summer project stands out vividly in my memory. While in Belize on a research expedition with Earthwatch, I found myself tasked with carrying scuba tanks onto the boat and back for refilling. The tanks, hefty and cumbersome, took a toll on my back, leaving me with aching muscles. It was in moments like these that TYLENOL PRECISE provided maximum strength and targeted pain relief for my minor aches and pains.

Defeat Jet Lag: Jet lag, the perpetual adversary of travelers crossing time zones, can cast a shadow over the excitement of arrival. The most important thing to me is to be prepared for a long flight. I select a window seat and bring a neck pillow, a sarong to use as a blanket and most importantly an eye mask so I can try to get as much rest as possible.
Ease Sunburn Pain: Basking in the sun’s warm embrace is a quintessential part of summer travel, but sometimes even with your trusty hat and sunscreen, you end up with a painful sunburn in one spot where the sunscreen missed. When I worked for Princess Cruises in the Caribbean, I noticed that many passengers would forget to put sunscreen on their feet especially when wearing flip-flops!

Combat Dehydration Headaches: Summer adventures often mean long hours spent under the blazing sun, increasing the risk of dehydration headaches. Last summer, I was paddleboarding in Puerto Rico and I believed since we were in the water, that I was not getting dehydrated, however that was not true. That trip taught me that drinking water was not enough and I now carry NUUN rehydration tablets which help restore my electrolytes. My trip was saved by taking TYLENOL Easy to Swallow, which is designed for people who dislike taking pills or have trouble swallowing, to alleviate my minor aches and pains so that I could enjoy my travels to the fullest.

Relief in the Airport: Airport hassles, from managing heavy bags to enduring long lines and crowded spaces, can take a toll on both body and mind. The last time my flight was delayed and then delayed again and then as it happens delayed again, I realized that the stress was manifesting as a clenched jaw, creating more discomfort. I listened to a meditation app, ate a healthy snack and practiced breathing techniques, which allowed me to better navigate the airport challenges.

Thank you to Travel Books and Movies for including me in her article: Travel Writers at the Women in Travel Summit: “Lisa Niver is an award-winning travel writer who started her travel career with her husband, but after many (challenging) years shes was forced to face the truth about her marriage and leave him (literally while on the streets of Thailand). So then she had to completely redefine her life and figure out lifeand a careerwithout him. This book is the story of Lisas journey after she leaves her marriage (with some stories of how she got there) and how she built her solo travel career.“

Lisa has written an amazing book that chronicles her many travel journeys and adventures throughout her life, but made it very personal by intertwining stories of the relationships (good and bad), the realities of life on the road, with all the bumps that make her stories really resonate. Having met Lisa on a trail on the Annapurna Circuit.. and yes with Fred, I would have never imagined the story behind the story. Her sharing of this experience in her life was gut wrenching to read, but a necessary part of the story. It sets the tone for the rest of her journey in becoming Brave-ish. Well done, and I look forward to whatever she has planned for her next chapters!

Niver has the reader ride a wave of up and down emotions included with action and adventure that would rival any of Hollywood’s movies. Surviving a disastrous, abusive marriage that she did not see until it almost caused her demise. Being brave enough to get out from under the abuse, she starts and new life and thrives. But that wasn’t enough for the heroine of the story. She kept challenging herself to grow and overcome, at times, insurmountable obstacles. She accomplished things she never dreamed of and fulfilled items on her wish list. Yet, if there wasn’t enough to her journey of growth and survival, she takes on the challenge of accomplishing 50 Things Before her 50th Birthday in a very short time frame. And the reader is off again on another round of action and adventure as Niver learns new things, explores new places across six continents. Niver wants to be fearless after fifty and tries things that would make a seasoned professional squeamish and any woman over fifty clinging to the safety of her bed covers. Her courageous behavior clearly indicates that is fearless. Nivers story shows us her portrait of life and her philosophy of life. Brave-ish is a story of survival that speaks to any woman and lets them see what can happen if you let go of your fears, expectations, and perceptions.
