it’s time for you to depart,

Theft (101-Word Non-fiction)
You and your dad pulled into the driveway.
“I don’t believe it,” he said.
For some reason you had left your friend alone, playing in your back garden, whilst you and your dad went on some errand.
Did you leave the backdoor wide open, inviting your friend to help himself to drinks from the kitchen?
How you wish you had kept a diary. You would love to recall the dialogue (perhaps monologue) that followed moments after the initial disbelief. It’s not like it was the crime of the century. It was summer, after all.
“But theft is theft.”
That, you remember.

Blessings.

Your Dirty Squatting Friend (100-Word Flash Non-Fiction)
You had your friend over to play.
You were in your bedroom, then he vanished. You assumed, because of how he darted out, that he was going to the toilet.
The accuracy of your assumption only became apparent when you looked out of your window. He was squatting, next to the lamppost, like your neighbour’s dog.
You couldn’t play with your friend after that. You didn’t want his wild ways tainting your toys.
Your memory jumps to his embarrassed mum apologising to yours, and you trying not to make eye contact with his business every time you left the house.
*
Keep your friends, folks; don’t dump outside their house.

Quote – Hope & Fear
“Where there is hope, there is fear. When you hope for a result, there is some degree of fear of not getting it; or if you succeed in gaining it, there is the fear of losing it. So fear is a subtle but active element of hope.”The Way of Non-attachment
Dhiravamsa
I like to reread books that had a profound effect on me the first time I read them. This is one of those books.
It was published in 1975. It seems to be one of those gems that slipped under the radar. If it was published now, I’m sure it would be a best-seller.
Highly recommended if you have a mind that thinks.

Best,
Gavin
