Magic (Haiku)
They try and capture
the magic through their gadgets—
in a flash it’s gone.

Creativity: Time for a Break
After this week I won’t be posting as often as I have been. I’m contracted to write a book—a novel—and the deadline is looming ever closer.
I don’t know about you, but I find it hard to focus on more than one creative outlet at a time. If I focus on too many things, my attention and my creativity get thinned out and scattered, and that’s perfect breeding ground for anxiety.
It’s as if my creativity uses just one channel, and no more than two things are able flow down it at the same time. They bump along, pushing each other out of the way, like kids going down a waterslide in rubber rings.
Which kid wins? It’s usually the fat one. He creates the biggest splash and then demands to be fed.
I thought I could write my blog at the weekends. That’s pretty much what I’ve been doing since December; writing as many blog posts as I can over the weekend and scheduling them to be posted at the same time, every day. That way I didn’t have to give my blog too much attention.
But the scheduled posts are coming to an end—I think I have 2 or 3 left, which will take me up to the end of this week—and my weekends are now spent stewing in ideas for my book.
Anyway, I’m sure I’ll post something when I feel like it (or when the thinner kid manages to squeeze past) but at the moment, as I said, I won’t be posting as often as I have been. I just thought I’d write this wee post in case anybody wonders where my daily haiku and poetry have gone to.
Thanks for reading.

The Missing Dog (Haiku)
The dog is missing—
it is somewhere, ignoring
its mum’s worried calls.

Away (Haiku)
The fly on the page
walks across the word Away,
and then off it goes.

The Budding Tree (Haiku x3)
The budding tree proves
how effortless it can be
to express ourselves.
So why is it hard?
Why is there such resistance?
What gets in the way?
The tree that’s budding
is oblivious to me,
and feels no pressure.

Blessings.

The Nest (Haiku)
An empty nest sits
on the highest branch—below,
a featherless corpse.

Quote – Steinbeck
“It is a time of quiet joy, the sunny morning. When the glittery dew is on the mallow weeds, each leaf holds a jewel which is beautiful if not valuable. This is no time for hurry or for bustle. Thoughts are slow and deep and golden in the morning.”

Buds of Trust (Poem)
The buds are pushing through
as if they don’t need to push at all;
they make it look effortless,
this business of growing
and becoming;
they face the elements
for another run:
“Here we are again,” they seem to say.
“Are you going to pay attention this time?
Because if you’re not,
well… we’ll be back again next spring.”
They’re patient beyond belief,
with themselves,
with the elements they need,
that may one day turn against them,
and with us,
who they give to unconditionally.
Such trust.

My Ripples (Haiku)
A meagre puddle
contains the whole world and me,

The Sparrow (Haiku)
There flies a sparrow,
its beautiful shadow low.
How many notice?
